How stable are the legs on it?

Let's say they hold for the camera. I'd put it on a table but not on a high shelf or with pets around.

I've made several display stands and they work well, only they're kinda intrusive. I was thinking of buying a metal one like they used for the movies, one heavy & solid enough to hold the thing from further in the back. I don't think that could be done with Lego. Would be cool to hold it in a pose like on my signature. On one leg like that, it definitely can't hold alone that's for sure. The high-friction joints & the first knee joint are solid but they have their limit.

Another year another version, with a little more non-Lego parts (like those very handy 1x1 bracket plates that I wish Lego had made).
Since I'm now using wedge tiles, I decided to add that extra plate thickness in the back, it looked too thick when I was using wedge plates, but with tiles it's ok. Same thing with the chin's lip.

I decided to put it in the pose I had used for a 3D render last yearn, but obviously it wouldn't have standed by itself on just one leg, so I added the rocky base, onto which it's pinned.

(also changed the interior a lot again, but didn't take pictures)

It looks good, but I cannot forgive the use of custom parts. That's a definite, indisputable no no in my book. A holy commandment.

I know, I used to be a purist too.
But now it has become a game, hunting for special parts, just as I was hunting for rare/not in set Lego parts/recolors.

I know this forum is a couple of years old, but I just stumbled across this moc online and I have absolutely fell in love with it ever since I saw it. I wanted to ask if there was any instructions available for the AT-ST or the stand?

I didn't build it myself (yet), but as far as I know, the latest versions of the instructions are here:

There are 2 stands in my instructions, but the latest version doesn't have instructions, and thus the "rock" stand isn't there either.

I've moved away from pure Lego, and I don't think that Rebrickable would welcome instructions that absolutely require non-Lego parts now (not counting that it's harder to build instructions when non-Lego parts aren't available in virtual).
I've changed the design again btw, I still need to take new pictures.

However the rock isn't using any non-Lego mould, only one or two recolors I believe, and it's compatible with all versions, so maybe I should build instructions for it alone.

I just purchased the 4.0 instructions on rebrickable and can't wait to build this masterpiece. I would LOVE instructions for the rock stand if you're still thinking about making those instructions. Also, before I start sourcing parts do you plan to update the instructions to the updated design previously mentioned (4.5)?

Hello,

I've done major changes since then, so it's now a 5.0 for which I'll have to take pictures one day. But as you know I went full third-party parts for my AT-ST, so I won't be able to do instructions (but maybe pictures of a blown-up version) anymore.

The base however is all proper Lego (or perhaps with a couple of easy-to-find recolors), so yes I should be making instructions for that, but I'm lazy :(

A quick pic of the "new" one. The angle of the "jaw" changed from 2x3 to 2x2 slopes (more accurate) and a lot has changed inside.

Sad to hear you're moving more away from LEGO pieces, though in your quest to make it as accurate as possible it's fun to see the progression. I'll most likely move forward with your 4.0 version then.

5.0 looks stunning so far!

Would love the base instructions whenever you're motivated to put those together. Looking forward to your next update an photos!
