nerdsforprez Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Just a quick question that I thought would stimulate a little discussion. Although I could have started a poll, I did not because I did not want it to sway individual preferences on how to post either way. I simply am curious and wanted to hear others' opinions. I have seen some create one long thread where they post all their builds. Well-known examples may include ZBLJ or Efferman's posts. However, others post individual builds. Sariel, although he posts often, individually posts each one of his builds. Many others as well, in fact, I would say this is the most common method of posting. What are the pros and cons of the different methods of posting? What people's thoughts or feelings? I have posted most of my MOCs individually. As I near completion of another MOC and subsequent posting, I am just curious in what others think. Quote
dr_spock Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 It depends on what you the builder is after. If you want discussion centered around a particular build, then it is better to create a specific thread for it. Posting all them in an ongoing thread is great to showcase what you have done over time. It may get confusing if someone new finds your thread and is discussing an earlier build that is several pages before. Quote
Andy D Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) I prefer to see a new thread for each new MOC. Even if it is a revision of a previous MOC, I feel significant revisions are a new MOC. I really do not like it when similar MOCs by different people are combined into one thread, it takes away from each MOC., and I do not feel it is appropriate when someone hijacks a MOC thread to insert their MOC. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D Edited January 25, 2016 by Andy D Quote
Jim Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Both options are fine, but I think creating individual topics is preferred by most members. It keeps the focus on the MOC at hand. Quote

I can understand the use for an "accumulation thread" for smaller builds though. Especially for very productive people like Efferman and ZBLJ this can be a way to share their smaller works. Quote

I also think accumulation threads are fine, as long as the person creating the accumulation thread is the thread author. Andy D Quote

I can also see the need..... in addition, for things that are not really full MOCs, just presentation of ideas or concepts, I can also see the use for the accumulation threads. Those mentioned do alot of that; not necessarily full MOCs but sometimes just ideas, concepts, etc..... Quote
Erik Leppen Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I'm usually too modest to think all of my MOCs deserve a topic on their own. So I would naturally go for a single thread for all my stuff. However, the competitions require a thread per build, and I have to say I like this, because discussion is more focused that way. It is harder though to find stuff, because there are more topics, but there's indexes for that, but the topics themselves are cleaner, and give more room to discuss a model. So I probably keep posting new topics for my MOCs (at least, those that I consider worth posting). Quote
AFOLegofan66 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I like the idea of a topic per MOC. It can really help if someone needs a few extra pointers for the build or watch the progress of a new build. it keeps everything on track! Quote
SevenStuds Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I prefer one post per completed model. I think having an accumulation thread is ok for works in progress and ongoing discussions like the ones for custom tires, technic photography, etc. Oh, and one pro of having an individual thread is that it's required for a model to be considered for the HOF :) Quote
