Cody Startale Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Amazing, now that's what I was talking about in my review! The official set should definitely have been more like this – two walls instead of one, a real chamber for the lightsaber chest, and stuff. I love your expansion on the set, it feels natural and very fitting. Only the back portion leading to the chamber could use some more details, but it is already great and much better than the official set! Such a shame that you need two of them in order to build one such beautiful thing! Quote
MartinCliffe Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Yeah! This is great. So much better than the original set. Now you've got me tempted :) Quote
r5-j2 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 This is very nicely done; I think this is a great build! ,more accurate to the film and more like what we should have got from Lego ,for the price they asked. Also this got me to thinking; whilst I think that the Lego/Disney licensing set-up is great(in that we are getting all these subjects from the Star Wars Universe);- sometimes the actual value isn`t so great ;for instance 2 recent sets ;the Rebel Transport and Droid Escape ;are very heavily reliant on stickers with little in the way of printed parts (more profit for in doing it this way,I suppose?). Also the recent carbon freezing set is not that great either, even if you do get some cool mini figures Quote
Immo Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nicely done! Way better than the original thing. Love how Finn's turned head gives the impression he's asking the observing stormtrooper: "this stun baton guy's like gonna be a new Boba Fett, right?" Anyway, this set proves to be a nice material for vignettes and dioramas. Also the recent carbon freezing set is not that great either, even if you do get some cool mini figures Droid Escape and Carbon Freezing Chamber are actually the thing many adults wanted - a more decorative pieces to be put on the shelf of an adult geek. And they maintain the playability for the kids. In short, those are "DisPlay" sets, with less emphasizing of the "building toy" thing. Actually, I'd buy the Droid Escape as a display piece only. Would look great on a desk (especially if you can afford having sand on your desk ). Quote
Markalus Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Nice work! I bought the set purely for the minifigs. Now I want to give it the MOC treatment. Several on here and elsewhere have done a similar thing with the Cantina...bought several of the same set or combined it with Jabba's palace to create a more grand diorama. Quote
r5-j2 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Immo, I agree that the Carbon Freezing/Droids Escape sets should be viewed as play-sets, but Lego couldn`t be bothered to even print the cockpit canopy framing on the Rebel Transport ,yet the "Star Wars Rebels" little Phantom Shuttle (also a low priced set) did come with a printed canopy!?.......................you can probably tell that I hate stickers,........even to the point that I`d pay a bit more to get printed parts. Meanwhile getting back onto subject (Jayoheazy`s really nice build!).....here is a review ,which shows this set in great detail; http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=120042 and gives an insight into it`s value for money. TheBear Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 That looks very good. For anyone wanting to do something similar, you can usually pick up sets like these for less than half price without the minifigs on Ebay. It is a good way to expand an existing set without having to pay full price. Quote
jdm44 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Very nice! I've been waiting for a good Battle of Takodana moc. I think you should add a Maz Kanata statue to take it to the next level. Quote

It is a good way to expand an existing set without having to pay full price. I haven't actually built the set yet, but I picked up an additional set on ebay (without minifigs) for £15 - it's brilliant way to get the specific bricks from the set so you can ensure your MOC fits the theme, although I will also nbe adding to it. I'm thinking that parts from the gargoyle CMF could be useful for a Maz statue! @Jayoheazy - am I right to say that your MOC only contains bricks from the original set? Quote

I'm thinking that parts from the gargoyle CMF could be useful for a Maz statue! @Jayoheazy - am I right to say that your MOC only contains bricks from the original set? That is correct. My goal was to use parts that only came from the set. In the event I tear it down I know what pieces are in there and that they are all original. Hence why adding some of the details I would like makes it a bit tricky. Although I think a Maz statue would be really cool and easy to distinguish considering that I tell myself 'this entire section is non-original.' My OCD kicks in pretty hard I suppose :) Quote
jhaelego Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 For that 60 dollar price point, this is around what we should've gotten in the actual set. Great work. Quote
Junior Shark Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 [Groans internally] I thought I was gonna be fine with just one copy of this set..... Now I'm extremely tempted to get another. Great job, it looks awesome! Much more like a castle now. You gonna add any more on, like the cantina part? Quote
Jayoheazy Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I'd really like to but I have Mos Eisley on the way and am debating on expanding that cantina instead. Thanks everyone for the kind words :) Quote
Rishab N Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Much better than the original set. Nice work Quote
Kenway Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Looks so much more like the castle with the two walls. The official set should have been this one. Quote
