Content's of the King's Treasury (2013 Castle)

This is my first post in the Historic Themes. I don't often build in the Castle themes, but I enjoy viewing other creations and occasionally I put something together. I'm drawn to unusual subject matter and considering the general lack of respect shown toward the 2013 Castle sets, I thought I'd build a depiction of the contents of the royal treasury - not the structure, mind you, just the contents. I think it makes for an interesting composition - now the king needs to take his wealth and build a suitable castle! There are about 4100 pieces and it's all centered on 4 48x48 baseplates. Taking the photos was challenging because most of the chests (approx. 250 of them, all full of treasure!) are loose and I had to be really gentle moving it around. I took a bunch of pics but decided to show just 2 - an overview shot and a detailed view with the saturation of color greatly reduced via Photoshop to produce a cool effect. This was built in early 2014 and besides the 2013 Castle minifigs (the King, princes and princesses) it includes the Admiral's daughter from set 10210 as the Queen and 2 copies of the CMF William Shakespeare as the royal accountants. Certainly what you call an "unusual build"! I don't quite get the connection to Castle 2013, other than the king and TLG's notion of what a treasure looks like. I am impressed by the sheer size of this, did you get all those chests and other items just for this build, or is it an accumulation from you sets in your collection? I also like the way you configured it around the centre, it looks natural.

Thanks for the comment. Unusual builds like this don't exactly tickle everyone's fancy, but that's fine - I enjoyed building it! :)

To answer your questions: for sure the only visible connection to 2013 Castle is the minifigs; I used multiple copies of the king's body for the princes and the princesses just have different hair colors. Several of the chests and their contents came in the sets but make no mistake - I built this from my collection. I actually have a lot more chests than this, but the ones in the pics came from different sources. The same is true for the treasure.

The final version was actually bigger than this but it was extremely difficult to photograph without losing the minifigs, so I decided to show this instead.

True, true. And we'd probably fight a lot less wars and have fewer societal ills overall.

But this is the king's. And kings weren't always humanitarians!

Perhaps the root of this issue lies in the fact that most Lego men I know don't get very much satisfaction from their meals. Pizza, chicken legs and the occasional unpeeled banana are great, but I would rather feast my eyes on a treasure trove like this one.

Captain Dee, have you considered paving a road of gems for any spectacular castle road?
