Forresto Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I doubt it's that; different color, different style (the Open Circle only has two segments; the A-wing's has 6!), and there's no Open Circle symbol on Hera's B-wing helmet; there's a closed circle with a similar color scheme, but it's part of another detail and not likely to represent that Clone Wars era symbol at all. It's 30 years in the future from OT and 50ish (I'm too lazy to check) from PT. Could be the symbol was updated like how in Star Trek the insignias have gone through a few dozen changes. Or just a similar circular logo that has nothing to do with it. The thing is the art team is probably scanning through all the old material and designs to pull stuff from the past to the present. Kman860 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 The thing is the art team is probably scanning through all the old material and designs to pull stuff from the past to the present. Most likely, same as how they used the McQuarrie designs for TFA. Quote
dannallcorn Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Not much mystery, tho, considering the set gives away that she has a red saber...and red saber generally means "darksider" But the fact she has a good/dark side (look at the head sculpts) gives that mystery of is she a duel personality or does she balance both light and dark, the markings on her face and her eyes change colour depending on which side of the force so there is some mystery in my opinion. Amazing Bricks Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Does Darth Vaders Tie Advanced look rather small to anyone else? It's smaller than expected, but I think it works. I love sets that have two good sized vehicles like this one. Quote

Mesabi Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 the solar panels on Vader's TIE look too short. I think they're going for a playset vibe rather then accuracy. I mean its no where as good of a Tie advanced as http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/8017_Darth_Vader's_TIE_Fighter or even http://brickset.com/sets/75082-1/TIE-Advanced-Prototype Quote

The central panel is longer in 8017 due to the different angle of the edge of the panel. I don´t know which is more accurate Nevertheless the superior panel has 8017 2 studs less (in height) than in 75150, in the central panel is the opposite. I mean its no where as good of a Tie advanced as http://lego.wikia.co...9;s_TIE_Fighter or even http://brickset.com/...anced-Prototype I wholeheartedly disagree with you on this I have to say. The Tie advanced prototype is awful, it doesn't look anything like the tv version. And vader's new tie looks so much more accurate than the previous version. If anything the old version looks like a junior's set. Quote
wesker Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 The new TIE Advanced is a massive improvement over the 2009 one. The wings are far more detailed and the cockpit looks much smoother and rounder this time. Plus Vader's TIE is supposed to look a bit more stubby in shape compared to the other sleeker TIEs in the movies and this set pulls it off perfectly. Quote
DarthHank Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I definitely wouldn't say the old TIE is better than the new one, but I would say the new TIE isn't enough of an improvement over the old one for me to buy it. The old one isn't perfect by any means, but it is well-designed and holds up to a certain extent, its main flaw being in the design of the gray border. However, this new one barely improves upon it. Perhaps it's because this new one is based on Rebels, but I don't care for the style at all. It looks much too stubby, unlike the old one. The wing border is slightly better, but I don't like the layered system very much; I think something like this would look much nicer. Quote

Littleworlds Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 The new TIE Advanced looks also a bit too small for me compared to last years TIE Advanced prototype. Also the design itself seems more blocky and less sophisticated. I wont say though that is related to the ship being a different design. It isn't really that different to the prototype, or the standard variants. TIE fighters are basically all designed very alike. On the other hand they got the panels look much more accurate, which is a plus. I am certainly considering getting it though - depending if the retail price is ok. Quote
DarthPotato Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I like the smaller, more compact TIEs, so I'm happy with the new Vader's TIE Advanced. The TIE Advanced Prototype from last year is actually my favorite TIE, so I'm glad to see that Vader's is pretty similar to it. Quote
Sucram Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I think the new TIE is a HUGE improvement over the old one, I have it, and its far too blocky. The new one uses a new design for the wing border, which is probably the best they can get without hinges flopping about. Making the wings about 2 or 3 studs longer wouldn't be too difficult to MOD. I still wish the Vader in this one had leg printing. I guess I'll just use my Death Star Trooper legs. I think they're going for a playset vibe rather then accuracy. I mean its no where as good of a Tie advanced as http://lego.wikia.co...9;s_TIE_Fighter or even http://brickset.com/...anced-Prototype No where near as good as the old one? The new one looks alot better, in my opinion. Also, this one is actually light bley, where the old one is more dark bley, and looks wrong. Quote
Silverwolf28 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Toys R Us is having a deal where you can get 20% off your purchase this weekend. I was looking at the First Order Special Order Tie Fighter which is $58 now. With the 20% off, I can get it for about $46.40. For those that have it, what are your thoughts on it? Quote
Junior Shark Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I personally love the SF TIE. It's probably the most accurate of the TFA sets so far (except for the underslung turret). It's got a great minifigure selection, the build is nice, the wings are very sturdy, it's quite fun to swoosh and make TIE sounds with, and there's a great parts selection if you want it for parts. I really can't praise the set enough. IMO, it's the sleeper set of the first TFA wave. My one gripe with it would be how hard it is to get the pilots into the cockpit- it's pretty cramped. But that's not that big of a deal. Quote
Sucram Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 get the TIE. I missed out on it, and I regret it, as it is a great set. In other news, I've looked into it, and the old TIE advanced has a more accurate sing shape and legth. Also, the proportions on the back rounded part of the TIE is more accurately shaped. However, the new TIE is more accurate on the front part, as it looks alot more rounded and closer to the real thing. My final thoughts are, wait until a price drop on the new set, and mod it so that its a bit longer. I think this is a better option, as the new one looks alot more solid, with a much better wing design. However, the slant on the wings should be a 45 degree angle, not the 20 something degree angle on the official one. Quote
ISDAvenger Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Not a fan of the Rebels, but since Vaders TIE and the A Wing can pass for O/T I plan on picking the set up. Would have been really cool if they remodeled Vader's helmet after Ralph McQuarrie's concept. Quote
Darth Caedus Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Would have been really cool if they remodeled Vader's helmet after Ralph McQuarrie's concept. Eh, the less Rebels-ifying they do the better. The Stormies never should have been Gooftroopers in the first place, we could have had a good army builder otherwise. Am glad that we know have EpIV and EpVI torso variants of Vader with the new helmet though. Quote

The first model for the helmets in ANH had bigger frowns (like the concept art rebels was based off of) They all thought it should be a bit smaller so they made new ones. To save money they used the old helmets for backround troopers and stunt men. In canon (not sure if its still canon) Its like the phase II in TCW they all didnt switch over at once, but it slowly replaced it, And it didnt fully replace the helmets trill ESB. see here: http://www.starwarshelmets.com/original-ANH-Stunt-Stormtrooper-armor-helmets.htm As usual, They raised the price to normal MSRP $69.99 now. Price match. Edited April 22, 2016 by pittpenguin123 Quote
