Electricsteam Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Lets face it. It's going to be slow. I was testing some higher PSI on it and 9/10 it would bust. It would run a lot fast for a little bit but it would eventually bust. Might be a little different once I have the rest of the model built around it supporting it. But over all it will be a slower roller with a tender full of small pumps. Slow and steady wins the race I guess. I don't think I'm going to go with a centipede tender but I am unsure, the tender is going to be quite long like you said, it would give me much more room to hide pumps. Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Setting this up might be a challenge.... Quote
Electricsteam Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 I got some more work on the tender, it's very rough but I can work with it. I decided against putting the pumps inside of the tender because of the limited space. http://imgur.com/a/rKcRM (Better pictures) Quote
CrispyBassist Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 My only suggestion would be a 6x6 or 4x4 dish on the front of the boiler to add some realism and break up the flat front a bit. You might be able to work in a bracket in place of one of the presumably 2x2 red plates (referring to the picture you posted in your Blue Render thread (I figured this was more fitting here though)), or use longer 2xN plates to remove some of the SNOT bricks and brackets from the front 2 studs of the boiler. Just some thoughts. Otherwise this is looking real good! Quote

Murdoch17 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Does this fix your smokebox door problems? (I whipped it up in 20 minutes) It's not prefect, but it's as close as possible. I think the vent (or whatever it is) on the bottom will draw people 's attention away from the fact it's not perfect... it's about 1/4 of a plate off center height wise. The only thing you probably can't do is have a bell, as it will collide with the dish. LDD file: http://www.moc-pages.com/user_images/80135/1452465161m.lxf I hope you like it. I have been continually impressed by your builds, especially this one. Keep going, the only limit to building is your imagination... and your wallet! Quote

I'd need to press out the boiler by another stud. I think a healthy amount of glue might be the safest option Quote
Murdoch17 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Hey Electricsteam, I was inspired by your method of putting the smoke-box together on this loco, and as such, I have used it as the starting point for making my 8 studs wide Daylight to 6 wide. Thanks for the inspiration, your model looks awesome! Quote
Electricsteam Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 I have no clue what happened to the back half of the train......... The pneumatics work perfectly! The only minor change I had to make was removing a 2x6 plate where the pipes hook into the switches. I pulled it out of my box... had to quickly clean up for Christmas... Seriously what happened to the back half! Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) *cries after looking at the price tag* So errr slowly working out how to buy bricks from this huge laundry list.... oh boy this is going to be fun..... Should I just scrap the tender for now and just get the locomotive done? Edit. Hey anyone out there in a train tech world mind helping me figure out how to properly order all these bricks? ALCO Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 *cries after looking at the price tag* So errr slowly working out how to buy bricks from this huge laundry list.... oh boy this is going to be fun..... Should I just scrap the tender for now and just get the locomotive done? Edit. Hey anyone out there in a train tech world mind helping me figure out how to properly order all these bricks? Do you use Brickficiency? I have no idea how you would go about creating a wanted list in bricklink without it. You can import your LDD and it matches up your LDD file with known parts for sale on bricklink. You can quickly figure out what colors are not real, or even figure out cheaper options for parts...a little more work. But the cool thing is that you can upload your model's BOM to a bricklink wanted list. I have found that with smaller models it will even figure out the best store combinations to purchase from. However, you still have to be mindful of minimum purchases. I don't currently know of any other options than this one. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 I use ReBrickable and their Private MOC section to make a list of the parts I need by uploading the LDD file. I then use the integrated Bricklink function to send parts immediately to the selected seller's cart. I proceed to go through the ReBrickable list once more and delete the parts that I already brought, and I repeat the process until either only rare / hard to find parts are left or none are left at all. After that, I delete the list as this site now limits the private MOC's to 10 lists only. Here is the link: https://rebrickable.com/home This is the quickest way for me, and it also helps me find stores in the US. (I don't order from outside the USA as it takes too long, is expensive and tracking can be a pain.) Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I got the BL wanted list all made up. I guess the next step is to start buying! Edit. This has been a piece of cake and a lot cheaper then I thought it would be so far. Rebrickable wanted list maker thing is amazing Edited March 7, 2016 by Electricsteam Quote

I've been having trouble with brick linking stuff, and this proved extremely helpful. I'll keep this stashed away for when I choose to BL one of my MOCs, like my 7740 remake. Quote

Glad I could help both of you! Oh, and I can't wait to see the finished product Electricsteam. I have been interested in your pneumatic experiments since Day 1, and I am excited that it's nearing completion..... Keep up the good work! Quote

I have been interested in your pneumatic experiments since Day 1, and I am excited that it's nearing completion..... Keep up the good work! The loco will be finished but the tender will be a WIP until I can figure out how to (A power a L motor )and (B make it kinda of look nice instead of a mess of technic.) I know folks like Lego 12v has made some circuity doodad that takes a 9v battery to a motor..... Just the main problem is space, the normal batterybox is huge and takes up a bit of the tender.. I was thinking of pulling a flying dutchman with it's double tender's but I don't think it would fit well with an american loco. Okay so more random thoughts. I really want to display that this train is run by the air pumps. I am not sure how to make it a focal point of the tender with out loosing some of the look of a normal tender. I think I could attempt to make an 8 wide bogie like the Umbau carriages (http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=122771) I need every bit of space I can get. Edited March 8, 2016 by Electricsteam Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Yay! I have the last of the brick I believe I need to get this thing build... well the orders put in for the last two an the first two orders paid off! 90% through BL I should have the rest of the bricks here Now I need to go and find the pumps.... I'll keep y'all updated when the building starts! If you need me I'll be bouncing off the walls in excitement! Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 IT HAS BEGUN That was a pain in the but to sort! I can finally start making the train! No more need to tear down old trains to make new ones! Quote
bricks n bolts Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Wow, this is going to be a thing of beauty / awesomeness when complete.. can't wait! And agree rebrickable is a great piece of software, tried it out for Maeask pieces just to find it was no cheaper unfortunately.. Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 Holy cow this thing is huge. Poor quality photo I know but this thing is really shaping up! Quote
Murdoch17 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Great work so far, I can't wait to see it finished! Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 Mini update. THE PNEUMATICS WORK PERFECTLY Holy cow this is amazing! I'll try and get a better picture when the sun is up Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 There super quick video of it moving Quote
Electricsteam Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Okay now that the main train is built, now is time to think about finer detail! rails tubes and springs! Ayways how could I add more detail! I've got a good base for a good train I hope. How bad would is look for I had the smallest size wheel in the front and the normal sized wheels for the trailing truck? I don't really want much of either truck supporting the drivers off the track, since I need all the traction I can get. Quote
