Electricsteam Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Just a simple topic to keep all my ideas and thoughts in one place while the slim chance of you guys giving me suggestions will be there.... Anyways.... Day 1. The LDD is slowly shaping up I am rather confused on how people get the leading trailing wheels so close with such detail The train I will base it on Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 ...the leading trailing wheels... Erm, do you mean the leading wheels, or the trailing ones? Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Erm, do you mean the leading wheels, or the trailing ones? Both really but I think I have the trailing ones figured out Quote
Murdoch17 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 If it's a Mountain type you want, you might want to look at this model: i'm not trying to self advertise, by the way. I just think it might help, since it's the same wheel type as the one picture you posted. Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Day 2. I made about 20 deep fried oreos and roughly figured out where the pistons are located. Amount of work done today 5% amount of oreos consumed 3 Edit! its 4 am anyone want some fried oreos Edit edit. Some gears to make the static wheel no long static Edited December 8, 2015 by Electricsteam Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 Day 3 7 PM It's starting to shape up. I'm not too sure on how to make the front bit look realistic or the back bit... or the boiler bit.... lego is hard Quote
legonerd54321 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Not too shabby for a rough model! Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Hrm Day 4 8:44 pm I have consumed an outrageous amount of stuffed shells and I have slowly worked out what I want the boiler to look like. It looks a little small at the moment..... Maybe It will look better once I get the fru frus going Black represent the walkways and blue is the gearing I'm am still quite uneasy on how this will look. I want to be the best loco I've built to date but it is slowly becoming over whelming. I need to figure out how to get the pipes to fit inside of the boiler, there should be enough room but I cant exactly put it in LDD Edit These plate outlined in blue need to have enough support under and over them to not giveway. They are the bricks that are keeping the piston more or less level Edited December 10, 2015 by Electricsteam Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Hey Train Tech is this a good shape for a cheese wedge boiler? Quote
legoman666 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Hey Train Tech is this a good shape for a cheese wedge boiler? Why not use the curved 2x slopes? Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Why not use the curved 2x slopes? The wedges give a broader slope Imo. It also opens up better room for detail with pipes railings and what not.... Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 So much work done! The buisness end of the train is done! I THINK I might have a solution for the leading truck but I'm not sure yet! Please oh please guys tell me what you think!!!! Anyways stay tuned for the next update! Quote
Murdoch17 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I think it looks good! The front truck should work, based on my knowledge... usually I just order it and blindly hope for the best when I build it. Case in point: I ordered my GM Aerotrain, almost $230 US worth of parts, and I'm not even sure it will work on curves / switches when built. The engine's unique wheel-set is the only thing i'm worried about: it's only been used on the Aerotrain. (one two axle-bogie, plus 1 axle fixed to the other end of the engine) ...Anyway, your model looks awesome. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see this engine finished either in LDD or Real Life! Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 Another update! It's grown! I think this is how long the engine will be. I'm thinking about the tender being more of a display for the pumps, The front half looking like a normal tender to conceal the batterybox and motor and the rest would be a line of the small air pumps..... Eating through batteries seems fun. Anyway to make a truck that hooks up with the 9v rail and powers a large motor? Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 And it's about finished! This is my most advanced lego locomotive in terms of build methods in terms of propulsion! It's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get it brick built but it will be worth EVERY penny... (I just need to sell a ton of fried oreos ceramic bowls and or stuff I don't need any more) Please tell me what you think train tech! Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Last update before I move to a new post! I built about half of the thing so far. Just enough to get the Pneumatics lined out and FUNCTIONAL! and to see what bricks I do need. It seems like the whole boiler needs to be bricklinked I'm so freaking excited that the engine is working, grip doesn't seem like much of a problem at it's current state. I'm tired I'm going to take a nap Quote
legoman666 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Got a video of the pneumatics in action? Lookin good, making me want to make a pneumatic locomotive of my own. Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Got a video of the pneumatics in action? Lookin good, making me want to make a pneumatic locomotive of my own. here is a video of the test rig I'll get a video of the half built locomotive when it's not so dark out Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 Here we go some early pictures of the train brick built. And I was able to dig out my little Minifigure :D Quote
Man with a hat Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 It already looks very impressive. Looking forward to its completion Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 It looks impressive in real lego! I'm waiting for your next step now! Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 day 12 No progress has been made I am burried to my neck in boxes full of kitchen items..... We had to spray for roaches not fun! everything is a mess and I lost the train in this seat of canned food and boxes Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 There a much better render of the train in it's proper colors Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I'm just worried about the final speed of this beautiful model Quote
Lego Dino 500 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 How much faster are you going to get it? Tenders for 4-8-2 locomotives and larger were typically centipede or vanderbilt tenders. They can easily get to about 1/2 2/3 the size of the locomotive. You have room in the tender to put another 2 pumps, if you have them. And instead of just the two different strokes, if you put them in a spiral pattern they should provide more constant airflow to the pneumatic cylinders, but this only works with 3 or more. Quote
