Starwars4J Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hey all, I've finished a new sub-MOC for my SHIP. Any cruiser would need some place to keep some prisoners (if they happened to survive). Rather than the joint-cells of centuries past, it was decided that each prisoner would be kept in a lock-down type cell to prevent planning, or really any planning for hope of escape. As we can see here, the Empire has actually caught someone who deserved it for once! A serial killer who had threatened a local Imperial Governor. The prisoner has been placed in a standard pair of bipedal appendage restraints (hey, you need to be PC when there are so many types of sentient creatures), and is being led to his cell by Brigadeer General Ninyx and a contingent of armed troopers. The containment module: It's fully cell-f contained! :-| As you can see, it's cell number 1, being the experimental version of course. I plan on having 10 of these in the cruiser. The handle is for opening it in case of an emergency. The lock, however, can only be opened remotely from the bridge. Enjoy the light while you can The door slides up and open The inside. It's hard to take a picture of it since it's enclosed... You can see the air/neurotoxin vent in the back. Yes, I said neurotoxin. A gaseous neurotoxin is pumped into the cell once the prisoner is secured to knock them out. No long-term side effects have been observed, but honestly they didn't look all that hard. The gas dissipates readily in an oxygen-rich environment, so the inside of the cell is normally kept to 5% oxygen at most. The gas is pumped in through the back, which I'll get to later. Oh, and you see that little black thing? That's part of a further restraining device. The arm slides down to hold the prisoner by the cuffs. So the prisoner is knocked out, encased in a thick cell, and held in place by his cuffs. Here you can see an opening, that's just a low-tech laser sensor bar. If it's crossed, an alarm will sound. This is another level of prevention to hinder escapes. You also see a few smaller holes in the back, those are sensors to monitor the condition of the prisoner. Here's where the module plugs into the back. This is where it will connect to the SHIP. It is only through this connection that the module gets it's power, and delivery of oxygen and nerve gas, as well as the signal to lock or unlock the module. buh-bye And yes, I'm aware it's boxy, it's meant to be a box. A large, armored box that's impossible to escape from. I wish the pics did this justice...it's not that I didn't want to take the time, it's that I don't know how to photograph something like this :'-( thanks for looking! C&C appreciated Quote
Vader Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Ahhhh now that's an impressive moc you have there, it reminds me of a cell seen in many different sci-fi films. The way you have used the telephone as a pair of cuffs is great, kinda makes his one phone call a non option X-D The cell itself is really well put together and i adore the inside, does this cell have a ship or vehicle to transport it? Thanks, I just wish I could figure a way to take better pictures of it, to get the inside lit I had to turn down the aperture :-/ I need to just buckle down one day and make one of those lightboxes. As for a ship or vehicle to carry it, not yet, but I plan on making a small treaded thing to move them around. Edited October 1, 2007 by Starwars4J Quote
Asuka Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Very nice and functional, that cuff holding system Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Very impressive little confinement cell you got there SW4J 8- Quote
yellost Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 wow, I love it. Especially the door mechanism. very clever. But is there a reason why there seem to be some 1x1 round tile missing on the right, here? And the boxiness really is a plus, here. It makes the whole "containment" part of that cell. Quote
yellost Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 That bit is missing because, while I can't show it, the door can't close if I leave it in :-D In fact if I even put a 1x1 tile there to cover the stud it can't close 8-| It's a nice tight fit though :-D I don't quite picture what you're saying there... Can you post a pic of the other side of the door? the one without the handle. Quote
Siegfried Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I just keep missing your MOCs. I think it is because the time you post them is often 1am-4am in my time zone and I have to go back pretty far to find them. The short answer is I think it is cool. *wub* I agree that sometimes a box is the most appropiate design, and I think even for spacecraft, a box can be cool. I loved most of the Earth ship designs in Babylon 5 and most of them were boxy. Your descriptions were cool, amusing and suitibly over-complicated. I love it when someone thinks out how a Lego contraption is supposed to work. Aside from that, I do have some questions/comments/gripes; 1. A photo from the side with the door up would be handy as it is hard to see how it all works. I assume that it pulls out and then hinges, similar to the new aircraft hatches. 8-| 2. Great handcuff idea. *sweet* I will shamelessly rip this off. :-P 3. Do you have plans for how you are going to do the numbers from 2 to 10? 4. Are you an anti-studite or is it just for this model? 5. "It's fully cell-f contained!" When I read this at first I thought it was a typo! :-$ 6. To take 10 of these and more your ship is going to be pretty big.... 8- Quote
Starwars4J Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 I don't quite picture what you're saying there... Can you post a pic of the other side of the door? the one without the handle. Sure thing! 1. A photo from the side with the door up would be handy as it is hard to see how it all works. I assume that it pulls out and then hinges, similar to the new aircraft hatches. 8-| Exactly, here's a shot from the front, with the bley droid arm extended and the door off it's hinges. It pulls out and then up: I hope the pic shows it well enough :-$ 2. Great handcuff idea. *sweet* I will shamelessly rip this off. :-P Glad you liked it :-) 3. Do you have plans for how you are going to do the numbers from 2 to 10? I'm confused? If you mean how I'll get the yellow in, I'll just do it the same way as here. I thought about SNOTing it sideways but I felt that on this scale it would have been pointless. For 2 I'll probably do something like _ _| |_ etc. 4. Are you an anti-studite or is it just for this model? Well as you may remember from my Fighter I have no problem with studs :-D I just think that in this case this studless would be best. Interiors I generally like being studless, I've started doing that for the floor of my SHIP, and it makes the studded floor look naked :-$ 5. "It's fully cell-f contained!" When I read this at first I thought it was a typo! :-$ I'm not that slow :'-( 6. To take 10 of these and more your ship is going to be pretty big.... 8- Quote
Siegfried Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Exactly, here's a shot from the front, with the bley droid arm extended and the door off it's hinges. Exactly what I wanted; thanks. *sweet* I'm confused? If you mean how I'll get the yellow in, I'll just do it the same way as here. I was more asking about fonts.... Well as you may remember from my Fighter I have no problem with studs :-D I just think that in this case this studless would be best. That's a relief! I'm not sure if I had seen that before... Interiors I generally like being studless, I've started doing that for the floor of my SHIP, and it makes the studded floor look naked :-$ I agree. I might have to tile my ship Impartial as it isn't that big anyway. :-P Thanks for your comments, they always are so thought-out and mean a lot to me :-) Thanks! That's a very nice thing to say. :-$ I try, and I will try and spot your next MOC faster. X-D Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 A cracking good containment box. Good job! Quote
doug7172 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Dude nice I love the cell. Any poticular reason waylen jones is bieng arested. Did he swim in a non swinging area? Quote
Shadows Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Some great work there and it's good to see that someone finally apprehended Stinky's killer, though it apparently took a long time and we're somewhere in the distant future. *y* I'm looking forward to seeing all 10 of these together. Will it be some form of ship that basically serves as a transport for these, like a container ship with these as the cargo? My idea would be to treat it like a space module construction. Ship is basically just a bridge, long connecting hallway/spine, and an engine, with these in between in whatever number can fit. Ship lands at an asteroid prison and these can be removed (with your crawler idea) and simply attached directly to the prison. Prisoner never gets out for any reason. Used/no-longer-needed cells can then be attached back to the ship for removal and refilling. Something vaguely like this, but with a lot more of them inbetween the first and last sections: Very cold and efficient. I love it! *y* Quote

They're actually just going to be a small detainment section of the Cruiser I'm working on, I figure a small portion of the inside, near the docking bay area will have a few of these (I'm guessing 10) to hold any captured prisoners...not a lot, but enough. After this is done (god knows when that will be), I'll start working on the next project...a large medical SHIP. I sketched the design the other day. Come to think of it, I need to take some pics of my progress on the cruiser... Quote

Wouldn't the reverse be true? 8-| Quote
