I can only assume you and Coca Cola are being sarcastic because there's over 50 years of potential LEGO can mine for Doctor Who sets and all they'd need to do is stick the Doctor Who brand on for it to sell more than DC and Marvel superheroes combined. The show has a massive fanbase, is in no danger (the viewing figures are because of a change of viewing habits) and will easily be popular with kids.

If you're right, I'll be very shocked.

Well, beside the fact that you disagree , you are saying exactly the same as me.

Im a Whovian as you, and i know as much if not more about DW as you. As mentioned above i just told my opinion on the subject.

And indeed i surely hope for more DW LEGO sets, but im keeping my hopes down in case i will be disapointed

Yes, yes! Lets agree to disagree and carry on.

Indeed, brilliant

My time war dalek compared to Lego's

More specific comparisons in the spoiler tag.

Completed base, more appropriate height compared to minifigures. No thin strange neck, no gaps all over the place.

The back of the base can be replaced with a flat tile, but i thought it looked cuter with studs.

Your version looks so much better. Why didn't LEGO do it like this?

First off, we aren't being sarcastic, pessimistic maybe, but "real" would be the word you're looking for.

I am being 'real' and Doctor Who is hugely popular with kids.

Second, lets not pretend most of the shows fans, me included, went back all the way to the first doctor.Majority of us started with the ninth, wikipedia'd the rest and maybe watched clips on youtube of the interesting parts you read about. 50 years of content with only 10 years being deemed important by the non-diehard fans. Not everyone is a die hard fan like yourself and wouldn't want to shell out 40 bucks on characters they won't recognise. If it doesn't include a 9th-current doctor chances of the set selling well compared to anything is a gamble.

Disagree.

Doctor Who is a brand. As I said, all they'd have to do is stick the Doctor Who name on it and record Peter Capaldi saying something like 'I'm the Doctor and it's absolutely vital you buy this set for the future of the universe' and kids would instantly buy it. It doesn't matter if they don't recognise the characters, settings or seen any of the classic series.

And there is a large and portion of children, globally who don't even know who the doctor is.

I think most kids know who both the Doctor and the Daleks are, otherwise they would have to have been living in a parallel universe where no kids ever cared about Doctor Who. Doctor Who IS a family show but a large bulk of its audience are still kids.

Maybe a Doctor Who theme would dominate Superheroes in the UK exclusively but saying it would sell more than Marvel and DC worldwide is ridiculous even for a fanboy.

Hardly. There's infinite more potential for imagination than Marvel or DC Superheroes and it's something more unique and quirkier than your standard Marvel or DC superhero.

And in the 50 years of content there isn't much that they can turn into a set. The Tardis. And then what? Another Tardis?

Well, you could do the Skarasen from Terror of the Zygons, the Dalek City from The Daleks, a Dalek spaceship, a Sontaran spaceship, the 3rd Doctor's car Bessie and the Nerva Beacon from The Ark in Space/Revenge of the Cybermen. Also: a set based on Day of the Doctor comprising of the Moment, the 10th Doctor, the 11th Doctor, the War Doctor, Clara and Bad Wolf.

Dude i don't think you realise how much i want sets. I do really want a fully blown theme from this, heck it may inspire me to watch the original 40 years of content. But as my original post said I personally can't see it happening for the reasons i think i have made clear enough.. If that upsets you that i expressed my (pessimistic) view on the matter I'm sorry. But I just can't see it happening.

It doesn't 'upset me' but I think it's crazy to say that Doctor Who wouldn't work as a range because kids wouldn't buy it so I started a debate (which is what forums are for, after all).

Now lets put this to rest. I didn't mean to start a debate on here, we are all going to have opinions that collide in everything that exists, you know? Lets have a friendly conversation about Doctor Who like Mr. Sir Gareth intended when he started this mighty fine thread.

I am prepared to agree to disagree but to me the point of a forum isn't a 'friendly conversation' (there's Facebook for that) but to have lively debates and discussions if you disagree with someone's post or otherwise, to tell someone you agree with their point.

SO much better: thank you for that. I am unconvinced by the placement of the eyestalk ( I think that the "box wrench on top" method looks better) but other than that, I think you've nailed it.

I think everyone is making great points here. I, for one, think that it would be a very popular theme from a kid's perspective.

First off, what kid doesn't like spaceships? Sure, the TARDIS counts but doesn't really look like one, but any of the alien ships would be perfect. A Dalek starship looks inherently like a flying saucer. Kids would love one, if only just to swoosh around. And there are aliens. Aliens are also very popular with young children. The Judoon, Silence, Zygons, Sontarans. They look like aliens and aliens are cool!

Not many of my friends watch or have heard of Doctor Who (and I scold them for that.) but many kids around the US, the UK (especially the UK) watch Doctor Who.

Is it possible that you could share how you built your Lego Dalek? I love it, and I would like to build my own.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out.

I just made it in LDD for now, but if I make for real, I will definitely share pictures.

Edit: I guess I can share a pic of how I made it http://imgur.com/GmuSVzc

Alright there's an easier way to do the inside. Once my order arrives i will be building my new dalek paradigm version (hopefully this week)

Ah thanks! I guess I just over-thought it.

That picture reminded me of the scene in Dalek where the Dalek decides to exterminate itself.

This forum however is for Lego Dr. Who discussion--not debating the opinions on the viability of Dr. Who; or it's popularity (or lack thereof) in relation to other themes.

Finally...it's absolutely ridiculous to suggest Dr. Who is more popular than DC and Marvel combined globally. Just saying.

Off-Topic Talk Exterminated! Continue focus on set discussion please!

Did some more looking into your way, and by elaborating on it a little more it is a much more stable core than what I had.

Though you lose the ability to connect the bottom to studs

I figured you could just rest it on top of studs, since the base is so wide. Edited by LuxorV

Thread (not forum). Which is called 'Doctor Who General Discussion' and doesn't have its own separate rules to the overall forum. Sorry, just saying.

Basically, this forum is extremely confusing with its odd concepts and ideas but I realise that's off-topic so let's discuss how the Skarasen could be turned into a Doctor Who set or something.

Good questions, seeing as we could only vote one Doctor for each question I chose 10 and War, although, had I had the choice for multiples, I would have gone for all of them. If this does become a theme it will be interesting to see Lego's approach to the Doctors as I'm sure they will want to release them all at one point or another. They could go for the CB approach by releasing them as a "set" (so all thirteen Doctors), or just releasing them in their respective sets.

After seeing a lot of the dalek builds in this thread I went and made my own I hope you like em. From left to right I have made Davros , Special weapons Dalek , 2005 era Dalek , Dalek sec and a new paradigm Dalek.

I really wanted the 10th Dr when it was first announced, like the original ideas pitch plus the 4th as well.

Also would love a Bad Wolf variation for the Tardis.

Was a bit annoyed with a second Capaldi seeing as he is the dimensions minifig. I get they were going for the regeneration from 11-12 but still.

This needs a full line and not just one ideas set.

Love the Tennant fig and Davros is bang on. Good work :)

Actually, the original pitch wasn't the 4 and 10, it was any of the Doctors and any of the companions The creator just used 10 and 4 for image purposes.

Was a bit annoyed with a second Capaldi seeing as he is the dimensions minifig. I get they were going for the regeneration from 11-12 but still.

Let's face it: they were never going to make it a set that doesn't feature the current Doctor. It wouldn't make sense because it wouldn't tie into the current era.
