Batbrick Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 I apoligise if something like this has already been posted, but I looked around a bit and I couldn't find anything. Sorry if there was though :-$ Anyway, post here what TLC's biggest mistakes and problems are here in your opinion of course. Try to suggest references as to how these problems could be solved and such. I just thought it would be interesting in seeing people's opinions on the matter. Anyway, heres mine: No, I won't go with the tempting JUNIORISATION :-X problem, but my biggest problem with TLC is it's repetitiveness and inability to move forward in its lines. Example: The Viking line. Great line too, but didn't manage to extend itself in its short second wave which while good, was really just more seige weapons and dragons. The Exo-Force line. Started out great, but how many oversized giant robot mechas can we handle? Can't the good guys get atleast ONE big vehicle (like Bridge Walker size?) ? And I think that it has really run its course and needs to move forwards. We need more diversity than just mecha after mecha. Anyway, thats my opinion, which means that it is perfectly okay to disagree with, just don't be rude. :-) Hope to hear your thoughts on this and don't be afraid to include your biggest surprises either! ;-) Sorry again if something like this has been posted, if so, close the damn thing! >:-) Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
SupremeCommmanderGrievous Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 The Exo-Force line. Started out great, but how many oversized giant robot mechas can we handle? We need more diversity than just mecha after mecha. I agree, the good guys need something big. I do not think Exo-Force is ready to end, we just need more diversity in mechs. TLC could either design cooler, more realistic mechs, or just do it the easy way and get a license for Battletech X-D X-D :'-) Quote
maiq the liar Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 *imagines a Minifig-scaled fully articulated BIG-O, but says, "Wait...that would be FAAAR too expensive."* -R. Dorothy ON! Quote
SirNadroj Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 One of MY biggest dissapointments is a lack of a new pirate theme! X-D And another one, which I'm sure most of you guys can relate to is a stupid OBI WAN EP III head, instead of a qon-gon head in the republic cruiser! >:-( Quote
Axle Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 a qon-gon head in the republic cruiser! >:-( Lol, that sounds funny but I agree, also mine was when the Oreient Expodition Story ended. I was upset. Quote
gylman Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 As my sig should indicated, the thing that bothered me the most was loss of the Adventurers. My kids LOVED these, and I did too, and many of our games revolved around them. We are planning to buy all the Indiana Jones set, toss all the useless fleshy figs into the "use later" bin, and make them into Adventurers sets. The other disappiontment has been TLC's pricing policy. Most prices in Canadian dollars are 50% more than those of the US, the rest are 33% higher. Yet our Canadian dollar is 97% of the US dollar. And that's before we pay our various sales axes. It's a total ripoff, and I have stopped buying from Shop@Home or any retail stores here unless its a sale item. I haven't even gotten the bulldozer this year. I get all my new sets from the US when I really want them, and in truth I have bought much less than I used to because of it. Maybe I should actually thank TLC for overpricing their product so I don't buy as much. >:-( Quote
Corvus Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 (edited) My gripes are very similar too everyone elses, so I'd like to add just one that hasn't been mentioned here: Bionicle. I think the line is turning into something good after the Inika, but it is slightly ruined by the quality of the bricks and the Cordak blasters. Cordaks are great and all, but they are much too big for the toa. I would prefer if they only gave them to the titans, who are actually able to hold them. Then there is the quality control; The joints of the figures. This is getting just sad- how are kids going to actually play with them if the joints break? Another thing I don't like is the new weapons. The silver is made of some softer, lighter color plastic that I think is just getting annoying. |-/ Ugh...plastic quality. :-X Edited September 15, 2007 by Mr. Mandalorian Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 I'm all for new Adventurers too, gylman (Canadians, UNITE!). I was very disappointed when the line ended- they had some pretty good sets. And, Axle, what the hell's with your sig? Quote
Batbrick Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 I will agree with Asuka in saying that I am sick of tlc not having the guts to make braver moves. It is like they are playing it safe by just re-releasing police sets >:-( And the tagline "Just Imagine..." was way better than "Play On" :'-( Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Piranha Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Long list here :-D -Lack of pirate theme -Fleshies( >:-( ) -New skellie arms -Obi Wan head error -Large Crappy <insert that tiresome argument> Parts( >:-( x2) -Jelly Aliens -Missing Parts -Lack of Pirate Theme |-/ Did I mention lack of pirate of theme? :-D Piranha Quote
Batbrick Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 Ahhh...Yes, the lack of a pirate theme. Rather disgusting tlc! >:-( I also think a lack of a true space theme too! All weve gotten lately are a bunch of lines taking place on mars! >:-( Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Scouty Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Are we absolutely trying to kill Lego here? G! X-D :-P I think we've had plenty of these threads. Quote

Axle Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 And, Axle, what the hell's with your sig? I had no idea I had that as a sig. :-/ I linked to something else and I didn't notice that came up, I'm so sorry. *sad* Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 This is a bit of a negative thread IMO. Aren't we all here to celebrate and enjoy our hobby, not moan about it? I mean, case in point, "the lack of a Pirate theme" - have you seen how much stuff TLC is pumping out lately? They can only do so much - and their Town and Castle theme at the moment is very strong, with quality sets, well-designed. They are clearly putting a LOT of effort in right now so I say, give them a break, we don't know that they aren't knocking up a new Pirate range right now... Sorry, not having a go at anyone, I just think we need to be positive - have the proverbial smiley MF face on because what we've got is good. Well, I think so anyway. :-) Dr. S. Quote

That`s exactly the way of thinking I do not like. Making a "proverbial smiley MF face" just for ignoring what needs adressing is the very excapism I feel is useless today. If there are problems adress them, point them out and make proposals to mend the situation. Sure this thread could use some more objectivity, as in focus on some major issues, and less subjectivity, but there must be a point to start with. I for myself would like to point out the increased tendency to run short-lived themes. Themes by the way, that are pointless and dead-ended. Example? Exo-Force, Mars Mission, which also has terrible colour-schemes, a crappy parts selection and a bullcrap background, Bionicle, that, though it harvests income and did improve design-wise, is still the ever-rotating milk-the-cow-wheel it always was. Not even the dreadful change in colours wheighs as heavy in my records as the nonsensical decisions on theme-design we saw coming to shop shelfs this year. Lines, however, that had potential for a lasting appeal (Adventurers, Vikings...) were chopped for no reason, as my local Lego-dealer of trust frankly told me. Even Lego's very own sales-agents do not understand the company's agenda. I want Lego to loosen their design-policies even MORE and give the CUSTOMERS what they WANT. Not what questionable researches with "target audiences" seem to indicate worthy producing. p.s.: Doctor Sinister, your attitude is far too positive to call you like that...more like Doctor Hippy-Happy... 5150 Lego Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Well, i've said it before, and i'll say it again. MILITARY!! . Lego needs to stopbeing such hipacrates, and just make a military line. All this talk about "Lego won't have aline with violance is bull. There are several violant themes, and they even have shooting cannons. Even if they don't have a military theme, there's nothing wrong with a USC Abrahams Tank, or F-18, F-22 fighter planes. Nothing at all. Getoff your high horse Lego, and give us some Military!!! This would easily outsell anything Lego curently has to offer! Quote
Asuka Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 All this talk about "Lego won't have aline with violance is bull. There are several violant themes, and they even have shooting cannons. I would like to see a military LEGO line if the military would start to use those cannons.... :-P Quote
Batbrick Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 Gee! X-O Ths thread is turning crazy! :-D I Like it! >:-) But seriously, lets try not to offend each other here too much, I agree in part with both Doctor Sinister and Cutty. This may seem strange but I think a bit of controversy could be good for the board so long as there are no insults made. It is kind of a change from the "I agree with you and everyone else for I am happy! :-) " attitude that we can sometimes get sick of. Just my two cents, don't call me crazy please? *wacko* Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
EyesOnly Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 No military hmm. |-/ I agree that a normal military theme would be nice, especially if it has working cannons. If so i want a powerful weapon, not like these lame competition shooters. I can't say anything for the other guns available since i don't own any. The greatest mistakes would clearly be bley. X-O >:-( *n* *sing* WTF where they thinking. Not only am i gonna have to add another color when i change my sorting system (i've put it of long enough), whenever i build a model the pieces in the instructions look black so i spend many minutes looking for black parts. :'-( This happened several times while building the ferris wheel. The other mistake, even though it looks to becoming corrected is not putting out any good technic sets with lots of studs. My hopes for 2008 are great seeing how much potential PF has. Quote
Paradosis Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I would also give a nod to the Pirates theme as the biggest let down. I'm not even sure why they discontinued Pirates, as it seemed so popular (which probably means profitable). Admittedly, I wasn't wild about some of the set designs in the later Pirates sets, but to just discontinue the entire theme...!? Quote
natelite Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Nothing beats shoddy parts for biggest disappointment. I wasn't really expecting a significant deterioration when they considered moving production to mexico and elsewhere but my experience with the caf Quote
Batbrick Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Yes I hate the deterioration of bricks >:-( :-X >:-( :-X Not to mention more and more products are relying on soft plastic and cheap plastic! >:-( :-X >:-( :-X Another thing I am sick of is the real short lived themes that LEGO is craping out! They make like 10 (exaggeration) new themes a year, and any good ones of the bunch we will never see a second wave too, and if there is a second wave, its only 2 sets before discontinuation just like Vikings! >:-( Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
