Well, that has to be a ginormous amount of money I guess. But even 10 million Euros, heck even 100 million, still too little. Where would you spend all that money on, if it can't be Lego? I, and probably all of us, just have that special connection with Lego, the community. It's like just cutting a limb off orsomething.

Well, if I ever find a satisfactory 1960 thunderbird ('square bird'), that would probably put Lego on the back burner for a while. I just got into Lego a few years ago. While I like it, the lack of so very few true AFOL sets may eventually result in a total lack of interest on my part.

I dunno if I ever would sell my entire collection off, but so far this year and possibly next look like I won't be spending much money on Lego. I originally came out of my dark ages for the LotR stuff and since that seemingly has ended it's left a big gap. There just aren't any themes that really catch my eye. I probably will pick up TBBT Ideas set, but other than that I don't think I will be buying anything anytime soon (unless the 2016 themes can REALLY impress me with pics).

Interesting question! Well, I guess the only way I would never feel the need for Lego again is if I could be walking/cycling through canyons, mountain ranges, forests, you name it, around the world. Every day of my life. With a (girl)friend . But even then... it would be hard!

Get rid of your collection.

Dire financial hardship centered around my son.

Never visit eurobricks again.

:sceptic:

I Delete your lego flickr mocs. End friendships based around LEGO. etc.

Don't have these. I have a Brickshelf I keep forgetting to update, though. I'd probably just forget about it altogether without bricks to plan around.

There are fewer and fewer that I'm interested in, but I still like building - I think I've bought more from bricklink this year than I spent on new sets. Still, I don't think that answers the question...

Yes... actually ANY dire financial need would keep from buying, and would probably prompt me to sell as much of my collection as possible.

However, I also don't think this answers the question...

Would you stop coming to eurobricks? Would you give up on LEGO entirely, even if you could still build for free with LDD or something? Would you actually abandon all possibility of buying LEGO in the future? Delete all your pictures and give up on all your LEGO friends?

If I had such a dire financial problem, and I stopped buying entirely (and decided I'd just never get back into it), and sold every single piece of my LEGO collection, I would probably stop coming to Eurobricks (what's the point? To be disappointed at all the new stuff coming out that I'll never buy?); I would probably then start losing touch with my LEGO friends, because dwelling on LEGO that I will never have would make me a little sad. Over time I'd probably even go and free up flickr space for other pictures, asking myself why I'd bother keeping it all.

So... yes, it could conceivably happen. Just very doubtful. I can picture where I just put a moratorium on any new LEGO purchases; I can even see selling a lot of what I have, but probably not all of it, I'd probably keep a few knick-knacks at least - a couple of minifigures, some of the customized things I've done.

True. Allow me to expand without going in to too much detail, then. Most likely, a financial need of the magnitude that would force me to sell my collection and not buy anymore would be medical, and I would need to focus on that aspect too much to build sets, MOC, or open LDD. I'd probably give up most of my costly hobbies if that were to happen. I'm not sure how I'd feel about coming out of a second Dark Age.

The question about quitting Eurobricks is a little challenging for me to answer right now, so I won't.

If there are no new sets that interest me, I generally lose interest in a hobby and will switch over to one of my many others. That means less and less time messing with my Lego sets and less time on the forums, until it is non existant. I would only sell my existing collection if I needed a large wad of cash.

Nope, can't separate me from LEGO, even then. I would just be envisioning ways to make everything I see out of LEGO in my mind.

Not that I don't already do that now... :look:

If I lost my collection due to fire etc or in the unlikely circumstance that I absolutely had to sell it due to hardship, I would probably stop being an AFOL. I wouldn't want to be reminded of what I no longer had.

If TLG stopped producing fantasy/mythology/historical/horror/superhero minifigs or if they decided to go entirely fleshy, I would stop buying LEGO. But that wouldn't make me get rid of my existing collection.

I've been an AFOL for over 20 years and will likely continue to be until I pop my clogs.

(1) A collapse in the financial system and/or loss of job

(2) Similar to Exetrius above, moving to a place with beautiful scenery and outdoor activities would definitely slow down my collecting

(3) If we started having frequent blackouts at night, I would revert to my astronomy hobby more and start spending money on related equipment

(4) Even if Lego totally declared war on AFOLS and made no sets suitable for adults, I could hold on as long as loose parts were available for making MOCs. But if Bricklink and PAB were no longer an option, that would be a factor.

A study could come out proving ABS to be toxic and I would probably still keep at it.

I don't have--and probably never will have--the time and money I would like to spend on it, but I have a hard time envisioning a scenario in which I throw out everything I already have.

I have a dollar amount in mind that is some wealthy person would come around and buy my collection is one swoop. I would sell it all.

But to get rid of contact of the Lego community? No way in hell would I break contacts with the great people I've met because of Lego. If I were to lose contact with the people from my LUG, Flickr, and all the great people I've met at the AFOL events. Well, if I were to lose those contacts, I'd probably fall to depression. This hobby is probably the greatest thing to happen to me and I have many friends because of it! No price in the world could separate me from the AFOL community.

I dont see a reason for that! :)

On the other hand occasional dark ages are acceptable IMHO - like when there isnt anything new coming out that might interest you. I am afraid next year might be like that - I had high hopes that the next big bang castle theme will be awesome and long running - now it might be just long running :)

so when there wont be any interesting sets I might take a break and save the money - I believe there will be some interesting sets/themes sooner or later that will bring me back.

Selling my lego is not an option at all - I dont view lego as a kidys toy (even though it is) - I rather view it as a creative building tool that lets me experiment and occasionally create something nice - its like older people doing crosswords in order to keep their mind up and running :).

If the company were bought lock stock and barrel by the chinese and turned the lot into the quality of the current knockoffs i'd quit buying new stuff and think about getting rid of a lot of my old stuff before the law of lemons started taking hold
