mikezang Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I have 10 RCXs so that I want use them in my Lego Train auto control System. Here is my past project ( ).After 8 months I tried to use my Lego RCX again, but I can't download firmware to my RCX. The RCX is no any response after several bytes downloaded, does anyone know why? Or what can I do next? Quote
DrJB Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Does this happen with only one RCX or all 10 of them? Depending on the answer, you'd have few 'diagnostic' options. If none of them works, I'd focus on the IR tower and the computer. Quote

It took me ages to find this out on my PC in the end I installed RCXCC on an old laptop and that installed the firmware OK. Quote

For answer your question, I prepared three towers, 6 RCXs(others's contact are corroded by bad batteries fluid, I have no time to clean them) with new batteries. image 1 Then I already bought a new USB to serial adapter instead old IBM one because I am afraid that is bad. image 2 Here is Tokyo at 5pm, Now I start to test them with 1st tower for 6 RCXs... Unbelievable! All 6 RCXs are successful to download brickOS!!!! The difference is now I test them at 5pm, until last day I tested them at midnight, I am not sure if this is effected by room light? Anyway, thank for your question so that I can save all my babies to be use again to my Lego Train Auto Control System. Edited July 25, 2015 by Jim Images too big Quote

Hi I have that serial adapter and it does not work with my RCX that is another reason I use an old laptop with a serial port. Edited July 25, 2015 by Jim Removed images Quote

The old IBM usb to serial adapter is not so good, so that I bought new one. I think you can buy one because it is cheaper, I spent 1000JPY. Quote
Jim Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Hi Mike, Don't post images larger than 1024 wide! And Paul, when you quote someone, please remove the images from the quote (unless it's really necessary). Quote
