DrJB Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 This thread is NOT about challenging the establishment, it is more to UNDERSTAND why some topics get closed for no 'apparent' reason. I've had few (2/3) topics closed that still had some 'healthy' discussion. The topics in there may not have been relevant or interesting to everyone, but there was some healthy discussion, and no offensive statements made. I did review the contents of the thread against site policies, and did not find anything in conflict. Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks.
Lipko Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 It would be easier to answer if you linked those topics. I could only find one: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111955&st=0 And maybe you should just ask the moderator who supposedly closed a particular thread.
DrJB Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Thanks, that's exactly the thread I was inquiring about. How do you find out who closed it? I was not aware such info is available.
Anio Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Why do topics get closed? Cause you create too many ?!?
Lipko Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Thanks, that's exactly the thread I was inquiring about. How do you find out who closed it? I was not aware such info is available. If a mod made the last reply, and the reply implies the uselessness of the topic, than you can suspect something...
DrJB Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) Cause you create too many ?!? Smart, but there was no mention in the site policies against 'number' of threads ... unless that's an unspoken rule Edited July 19, 2015 by DrJB
Anio Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 unless that's an unspoken rule It is not an unspoken rule. It is an obvious rule. You can expect this topic to be locked too. And if you really need the reason for locking, here it is : uselessness of the thread.
z3_2drive Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) Why not pm the moderator, especially the one who last commented on that thread? Now you've made another thread which will have the same fate - closed because its creation was unecessary. It may be only one thread, but many of these kind of topics end up blocking out more important discussion, similar to bumping old topics to the front for no reason. EDIT: Jim's response from the topic in question. And a more general comment; do we really need a separate topic for this? We had this conversation in the 2015 Discussion and Speculation topic. Let's keep it there. There's your answer to be specific. Edited July 19, 2015 by z3_2drive
BusterHaus Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 From what I've seen the reason for closed or moved topics is usually indicated in the thread. The topic you are inquiring about is not an exception: Nobody can answer this "why" question. Every response is therefore just pure speculation. I'd also be very interested in the answer, but we're not going to find it on Eurobricks. The answer has to be buried in the marketing department, and no one can understand those guys. We get a topic like this nearly every year, same question...same answer nobody knows the proper answer with the exception of the Lego group.

Milan Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 What is this for Answer???????? I don't think this is useless... It's a forum... for discussing... DrJB didn't say anything bad on moderators ... Max... It is useless and clogging, simply because people are creating new topics that are clearly general questions, and are belonging to the General forum, but they keep opening them in Technic forum. This one is the same.
dr_spock Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 There are various reasons topics get closed on Eurobricks. Things such as duplicate topics--posting the same topics in two or more forums. Discussions that collapse into fighting or go around in an endless loop. Topics of confidential information. There is probably a list somewhere in the Forum Information and Help forum. Come to think of it, this topic is not Technic specific since reasons for closing topics are forum wide.
MaxSupercars Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) The Technic Subforum is a group of AFOL that are interested mostly in Lego Technic. For Ex. I don't look in any other subforum because I'm not interested in. So when Technic Subforum is for Lego Technic AFOL I don't see reason why Technic people could not have own Topic where mostly write only Technic fans... And I agree that when people start to fight in topic it is better to close it. But this is not the case of this topic... Normal topic... normal discussion... not reason to close it... And the people should decide on their own if any topic will be closed not immediately moderator... Moderator is executor of people meaning... If people alarm the topic or posts first THEN is reason for closing... Max... Edited July 19, 2015 by MaxSupercars
Milan Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 So when Technic Subforum is for Lego Technic AFOL I don't see reason why Technic people could not have own Topic where mostly write only Technic fans... Imagine that every single main forum (Technic, Town, SciFI, Pirates...) has its own topics that are meant to be in General forum. I don't look in any other subforum because I'm not interested in. That explains why you think that every main topic has to have its own various and misc topics, that actually belongs in General topics.
MaxSupercars Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) I'm the member of much bigger forum then Eurobricks... motor-talk.de and people there got no problem with that... The same here... people... Technic AFOL members should decide... and based on this should moderator execute their will... Max... Edited July 19, 2015 by MaxSupercars
Jim Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Is it this time of the year again First of all; I don't mind you (DrJB) asking why his topic got closed (the one you mentioned). Secondly; I do wonder why it's not clear? Like z3_2drive mentioned, I have stated the reason in my last post: And a more general comment; do we really need a separate topic for this? We had this conversation in the 2015 Discussion and Speculation topic. Let's keep it there. Or as BusterHaus quoted: Nobody can answer this "why" question. After each wave we have the same discussion. Why aren't the new sets available in the US of A? Each time the conclusion is the same "we don't know for sure, it's pure speculation". So creating a new topic just to ask is useless to begin with, but if you still like to ask this question, ask it in the "Speculation & Information" topic of that year. After all, that's where the Speculation takes place You can't see who locked the topic, but since I always make a post before locking it, it's pretty safe to assume it was me. (admittedly, Alasdair abused his editor rights to make a lost post, which he should not have done) By the way; if you feel your topic got locked without proper reason, don't hesitate to send me a PM. I will gladly explain why I locked it. The same here... people... Technic AFOL members should decide... and based on this should moderator execute their will... That's basically what I am doing, since I got several reports about this topic. So yes, I am listening to the members
Jim Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 It is not an unspoken rule. It is an obvious rule. You can expect this topic to be locked too. And if you really need the reason for locking, here it is : uselessness of the thread. Expression your opinion is one thing, but we can do without the comics to make your point.
Jim Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I will close this topic. @DrJB if you feel the need to answer to my response, please send me a PM.
