Barbossa Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Hi Since I will turn 30 soon I have decided that I MUST spend some money on a new Lego "theme". (I am not sure if my wife agrees but what the Quote
Holodoc Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 So you are going to build a car yourself? Otherwise I would have recommended the ingenious Santa Fe engine (10020) and cars (10022 + 10025). While trying to build a passenger dome car of one of the 10025 myself I passed some ideas using the baseplate you mentioned. A dome car Or you try to build something similar to the container double stack Here is another big dome car A bigger collection of cars all using the baseplate. That should be enough for a first attempt. ;-) 9V ON! Quote
Freddie Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I myself used on of those bases for an auto-stacker, using the depressed center for small trucks and the rest for cars. I don't have pictures of it directly, but it is visible here and here. Pierre Normandin's road-going auto-stacker served as inspiration, altough my train car used technic beams to keep the upper level elevated, it has the advantage of both ends being able to (roughly) function as ramps, as each end can lower and rise as needed. Crazydance Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 You can find those (yellow version) in the 4559 train: http://www.cs.sun.ac.za/~lynette/mylego/pics/4559.jpg maybe a idea to make it modular.. though it still doesn't look as cool as the metroliner set :( Quote
Barbossa Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 Thanks to everybody for posting these great links. There are a lot of good ideas here. So I guess I will find a good use for my base plates and don't have to stick with those ugly cars from the 4561 set. So you are going to build a car yourself? Section8 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 The Amtrak-style double decker train is something I've been wanting to build. Two levels for each car, with the passage way between cars on the upper level. These wagon bases are key. Unfortunately, my wallet can't keep up with my imagination right now. Since your bases are black, would you still make the cars grey? If you're looking for freight car ideas, I remember Lionel had a depressed flatcar that carried a very large transformer, and other versions carrying other oversized items. Quote
