Mr Greeble Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Anybody know how to do this? It seems simple enough, but it looks easy to get wrong. https://www.flickr.com/photos/96641479@N03/18198640978/in/pool-customfigs (not mine, just for reference) Quote
deraven Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I don't think there's much to it- Looks like it's just a piece of flextube cut to size along with 2 small bits for the ends, and then I'm betting it's a 3L bar on each end that they just slide out from the longer piece of flextube. Probably doesn't work smoothly/easily in practice since I think there'd be a pretty good amount of friction, but I don't think there's any trick to it... other than cutting the flextube with something very sharp like an X-acto knife rather than old dull scissors if you want it to look nice when it's joined up. Mr Greeble Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) Ohhhh... I feel stupid now. Thank you! Going to see if this will work for a predator figs staff thingy. Edited June 6, 2015 by Mr Greeble Quote
emilstorm Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I have done this trick to make some hydraulic rams for my firefighters. They move in and out pretty smoothly, and the friction is still strong enough for them to hold some weight. I have also tried it just for little hydraulic pistons and they work well for that purpose too. I used flex tube and the thin part of a long antenna. Quote
Mr Greeble Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Well. Who knew? A toothpick is a perfect fit! Now I have to go and kill my purist side. Quote
deraven Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Well. Who knew? A toothpick is a perfect fit! Now I have to go and kill my purist side. Oh no! I don't want to be an accessory to murder! But... since Lego does have an official set where they actually instruct you to cut a flextube down to size, I guess at least that part could still be considered Purist. Quote
Mr Greeble Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Just finished sculpting the predator head, so I might actually go through with the staff! Quote
