Legonardo Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) If you can't see the image (it appears a few people are having issues) its here on my flickr. A study in mosaic making, SNOT, minifigure proportion, and endurance. And lots of tan cheese. based on this drawing i did when I was 12 which is based of a drawing by the dude who inspired my screen name ;) I need to get a legonardo brick in dark tan for this... Started this thing back in July 2013, which would make it my slowest build i guess... though it was scrapped for parts and put on hold because i ran outta tan (originally bley) too many times to keep track of over those 2 years, but whatever it's done now :p my first build that I don't plan to destroy! EVER o.O makes a pretty cool display item :) Come see it in person at the upcoming Christchurch Brick Show! Another 3(+) spacey builds and 2 castle mocs still to come before then! Enjoy! David -I know it's not strictly speaking a historical moc, but it's based on something kind of historical? Edited June 4, 2015 by Legonardo Quote
Exetrius Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That is a nice drawing! The point is, I can't see the flickr image above it, it says it's unavailable :/ Quote
LordDan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 You finally finished it! Fantastic work, I can only imagine how frustrating building a mosaic like this would be. My only slight nitpick is that in the drawing the guy is smiling, but in the build it looks like he is scowling, which makes it seem less lighthearted.I also really like how you put you initials in mirrior writing. Once again great work! :) Quote
gedren_y Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Your work is always wonderful. What puts this over the top for me is the reverse lettering, just like master Renaissance man himself. And it does belong here. Quote
Captain Dee Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Very clever project! Instantly recognizable. You just might be the first to do this in Lego form. A copy of the original to go with it would really illustrate the child-like proportions of the standard minifigures. This is a really cool mosaic. You really used those colors well. Excellent work! P.S. Of course it belongs here. It could go in Special Themes but being a famous historic subject I think it fits here too. Edited June 11, 2015 by Captain Dee Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That's lovely, Legonardo (even if a few nonstandard connections have me twitch a bit). This seems like a minor thing, but even the color scheme is well thought-out, evoking old parchment or vellum or something. Very clever project! Instantly recognizable. You just might be the first to do this in Lego form. LEGO itself actually has done its own Vitruvian minifigure imagery, on a 2 x 2 round tile found in a few Life on Mars sets back in 2001, but their take was a little different: Theirs is cool, though obviously yours would look a lot more impressive on a wall or under glass in a museum display case. legoguy1984 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 How are so many people seeing this. It says the image is unavailable and I really want to see what this looks like. The drawing is great but want to see it in the Lego. Quote
Jacob Nion Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Wonderful, so much beauty and art with relatively few parts. You truly do your name credit, as always master Legonardo! Quote
legoguy1984 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Yhanks for fixing it. It is amazing work I hope you display it proudly. Quote
AardWolf Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 As I said on Flickr, this is outstanding, highly impressive, original, and artistic- the golden combination for me! Awesome work man. Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Perfect, excellent - and a great idea to do this! Quote
mrcp6d Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Very nice! Full size/up close it does look a little rough, but as your profile pic and I'm sure "from across the room" it looks fantastic. Quote
Balbo Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Amazing work! I really love that beautiful mosaic. Truly a piece of art Quote
