robuko Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 War wasn't all it was supposed to be, thought the Ulandian guard They told him it would all be flashy super duper helmets and smart uniforms and the ladies would swoon. But here he was, far from home, defending some awful ditch in the back end of nowhere, and for what? Everyone knew the King was already at the gates of Xersia. And the local peasants wouldn't even let them build proper guard towers to protect them. Too concerned about crop damage, they said, so they had to have these damp soggy things halfway in the river. Too greedy about their acreage and war profits, more like it. Anyway, he had made it a bit more comfortable and closed the makeshift curtain against the biting wind. Cold in the desert at daybreak. Time to go and fertilise the local crops. He clambered down and made his usual way to the usual apple tree. "That's not the usual" was all he had time to think as the dagger slashed his throat. The Nile crocs were very patient, but when they struck, they struck fast. Quote
Dardanel Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 This is ingenious! I am genuinely amazed :D I really like how the water is reflective and everything else - is not : ) Quote
Bregir Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) Wonderful build, Robuko! The overall composition is nice, I like the tree and the watchtower, and the water looks very swampy. I am not 100% it is intentional, but I assume there is only "one" croc in this build, right? Who is moving really fast, right? One question, though: "Nile" crocs? What is this nile you speak of? LordDan Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Fantastic build robuko! I really like the sand green water and the tower and it's nice to see someone else using the crocs too( after all they are so much more efficent than mummies :p @Bregir- You have never heard of the Nile!? It is a fabled river in the croc's myths and legends, said to be found in the land of pyramids and sand, but although the croc's have searched all throughout Kaliphlin they were never able to find it. Captain Dee Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Lovely scene. The tower is excellent and the roof is clever. All the vegetation and irregular trees look great and the water is superb - that color is perfect for the setting. Very good build. Quote
robuko Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 This is ingenious! I am genuinely amazed :D I really like how the water is reflective and everything else - is not : ) Thanks Dardanel! Usually I have terrible problems finding the balance between too many reflections, and too many shadows. For once it worked in my favour. Wonderful build, Robuko! The overall composition is nice, I like the tree and the watchtower, and the water looks very swampy. I am not 100% it is intentional, but I assume there is only "one" croc in this build, right? Who is moving really fast, right? Thanks very much Bregir! I thought a giant meandering loop like this would be a bit swampy. That is a fantastic interpretation of the Crocs, I never even thought of it but it is now the official version Fantastic build robuko! I really like the sand green water and the tower and it's nice to see someone else using the crocs too( after all they are so much more efficent than mummies :p Thanks Dan! Yes, I anticipated much bandage in water related "hilarity" from the Ulandian invaders so your crocs seemed a better choice for this zone Lovely scene. The tower is excellent and the roof is clever. All the vegetation and irregular trees look great and the water is superb - that color is perfect for the setting. Very good build. Thanks Captain Dee! to be honest I felt this was rather unsatisfactory in the first draft, so I kept changing all the components until I thought it worked. The water technique is quite new for me, I quite like it but I think I should have put a light contrast colour under the trans clear plates. Quote
LittleJohn Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Very nice work! I really like the watchtower and water Quote
Kai NRG Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Very nice work here robuko, the tower especially looks good! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Nice watch tower - and very nice "shabby water" Quote
Garmadon Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Fantastic build robuko, the tower is superb - great part use with the giant treasure chest lid! - and great job on the water and landscaping! ...They told him it would all be flashy super duper helmets and smart uniforms and the ladies would swoon... Who told him that!? Quote
mrcp6d Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Clearly we're more angry about the Ulandan invader's gear than we are about the actual invaders! "The leak" as in "from his neck" I take it? Quote
robuko Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 Very nice work! I really like the watchtower and water Thanks LJ! Very nice work here robuko, the tower especially looks good! Thanks Kai, that was where I had the most rebuilds so I'm glad it paid off! Very nice work! Thanks Graham! Nice watch tower - and very nice "shabby water" Thankyou Captain, perfect water for hiding a croc in! Glacial water can be this colour too. Fantastic build robuko, the tower is superb - great part use with the giant treasure chest lid! - and great job on the water and landscaping! Who told him that!? Thanks Garmadon, glad you like it. I think it was some sort of recruiting officer at I14.... Great scene Robuko Thanks Dr Cogg! Clearly we're more angry about the Ulandan invader's gear than we are about the actual invaders! "The leak" as in "from his neck" I take it? Yup! I finally dug out my one and only S3 samurai helmet, I wish I hadn't traded my other one away now. Good thing my son has that friends moped with the gold handle. "The leak" refers to the leak he's taking against the tree, although there is now considerably more fluid leaking from his jugular. I guess that fancy armour has its limitations Quote
Sir Gillian Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Very nice build! The tree and little tower is very well done! Quote
Spader Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Nice tree, and you do the 'swamp' effect very well. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Neat use of the barrel lid for the roof, I'd actually been messing with it as a roof, in some other builds, but couldn't get it to fit the way I wanted. The tree and water are great too Quote
