M_slug357 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Hey everyone, just thought I'd share my little experiment with vinyl tape. Do you like blue too? color test by M_slug357, on Flickr These were adhered to white cylinder elements. I definitely like the darker one, especially because it's reallllllllllly close to regular Lego blue. Which one do you like? How do you feels about vinyl tape? Quote
fred67 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) I'm not adverse to modifying LEGO to suit one's needs, but (IMO) it needs to be clear (in cases where it's not obvious) that they are modified parts when you are presenting a MOC. That said, I think this is a great solution to the problem of not having the parts in the color you need. Edited April 20, 2015 by fred67 Quote
frogstudio Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Vinyl tape = giant vinyl sticker? That's a"purist way" to see things! Jajajajajaja. Great idea to use vinyl tape! Quote
M_slug357 Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 I think the most interesting part of this test is how an element's actual color influences the color of the overlaid tape. I can't wait to use these on an actual model! Quote
9v system Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Looks good I'm a purist so I won't be able to use this Quote
baard Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Good idea The darkest blue is nearest in color. I have used Lego stickers on some of my MOCs, cut in different shapes to serve my needs, i.e. model shape cannot be achieved with a different building solution or technique or with elements in the right color. I admit that shaving off a stud has occurred, but do not regard this as cheating or being less puristic. If TLC is the standard, gluing, putting metal into models, various non Lego electronics etc. is the norm, I think I am more puristic and have no problems with this. If the goal is to be able to reuse the parts, I am well within these borders. Happy taping! Edited April 23, 2015 by baard Quote
splatman Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I really doubt tape = modding bricks. Peel off the tape, and the bricks are the same as before. Using tape is really the same as including paper, cardboard, non-LEGO stickers, etc. in a MOC. Quote

Until the tape is on there for a little too long and the adhesive sticks to the bricks when you remove it - I'm guessing that with electrical tape at least it won't tear and crack like old stickers tend to!
