legoboy3998 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I am looking for help building a wedge type snow plow for a MOC. The difficult part for me is the compound angles and curves. Here are a couple shots I took of the plow several years ago. Still Raindrop Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) 10229 Winter Village Cottage has a great construction that approximates this relatively well--it is a bit more square than the one in your pictures, though. It works well for me, but if you want to get more accurate at that scale, it would be a good starting point, at least. Edited April 6, 2015 by Mariko Quote

I agree - 10229 is more square but does have the wedge look so may be a good starting point. 60083 conversely has nice curves but not the wedge so I bet you could start by trying to "combine" the key design features of both. Maybe not perfect, but good starting point. With all these curves and angles, another thing I sometimes do is look for inspiration by searching Bricklink for useful parts starting with the obvious categories like "slope, curved" then moving to less obvious places like bionicle or hero factory - never know what you'll find that may help. Edit - looking forward to seeing the finished product! Edited April 7, 2015 by PastVPresent Quote
legoboy3998 Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Thanks Mariko and PastVPresent for your advice. I actually completely forgot about both of those LEGO sets, even though I have both. I ended up playing around in LDD and I think I came up with a pretty good solution. GallardoLU Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 that plow is Huge! 11 wide for a city scaled plow, wow, at that size its nearly twice as wide as standard Lego set vehicles (including buses and Semis) also it is assumed you are working for city scale since that's the sub forum we are in. droomangroup Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 that is big, maybe on the bottom edge u could somehow use some wing/wedge plates to give it an edge? Quote
legoboy3998 Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 GallardoLU, it is a somewhat big plow. It is actually for a train MOC not a city vehicle. Here is the finished LDD model. ballast regulator Snow by legoboy3998, on Flickr And the real think in action. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube....bed/0O88zGCYoHo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> that is big, maybe on the bottom edge u could somehow use some wing/wedge plates to give it an edge? I may look into that. The two constraints, as far as the bottom edge of the plow, are the half stud offset every other stud, and that there needs to be a space to allow the railroad rail to recess slightly for clearing the snow. GallardoLU Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 OK cool, context really helps bring everything together. I also like the side plows and can't wait to see this brick built! Quote

I can't wait to get it in to brick as well. I am currently LDD'ing a whole bunch of Maintenance of Way equipment. Once I get them all mocked up in LDD, I'll start ordering parts and building them. I will post pics of the finished models in the Train Tech Forum. Sal WFB, WI Quote
