Vindsval Leaps down from the coach.

"indeed we are. I apologize for the delay in our arrival, but we ran into a bit of trouble along the road.

The cleric moves to the back of the coach where he tied the bodies of the three highway men. He unties Hanson, carries him to the two dwarves and drops him to the ground in front of them.

This one called himself Hanson. He attempted to charge us to pass your road. He has been shown the error in Impeding the will of the Wanderer. And the error of threatening our lives. I bring him and his two compatriots to you. Are they wanted men? Do you need proof of their deaths? Is there a legal bounty on their heads?

He then returns to the back of the coach and brings the other two bodies, placing them next to that of Hanson.

16826562300_6f6aaf3fc5_q.jpg

The dwarf examined the bodies.

"Looks to be just another bunch of bandits. As our gold mines have picked up, we've kept seeing more of them roving about.

Sorry to disappoint, but no, I don't believe there are any bounties on their heads."

Ooc-Warlen's not actually wearing the hat for battle purposes. Just IC.

QM Note: Got it.

"Then such is the fate of men who fall to greed. I am sure a town such as yours will have one who deals with the dead. I leave these three in his care."

Vindsval looks around the town.

"Now that we have arrived, what is it you would have us do for you?"

The dwarf nodded.

16826562300_6f6aaf3fc5_q.jpg

"Every so often, a shipment of gold comes down here from the mines for shipment. But our last two shipments have been stolen by an outlaw calling himself "Sean Cole," who's dared to ride straight into the settlement after them.

We've just got the latest shipment in, and I expect that he'll be coming in after it shortly.

I need y'all to be ready to teach him a lesson when he comes in, and inform him that he isn't stealing any more of our gold!

Up till he arrives, y'all are welcome to browse around the settlement. If you're interested, we've got the Spider's Arms Saloon, the General Store, and the Blacksmith's."

"Then he shall be so educated. I pledge to you that we will end his reign of terror as we ended the extortion of the Son of Han. Your town appears to be what is called a box canyon. I assume that means there is but one way in and one way out. This would make it easy to set up a waiting point for your bandit. Is there anything else you can tell us of his movements? How soon should we expect him?"

Vindsval perks at the mention of the store and Blacksmith. He will let the members of the party looser of tongue to explore the saloon for now.

"I would be most interested in exploring your town. I believe I will begin with your blacksmith."

"No, it's just a regular canyon. But we're on a shelf here, so there are only two ways up and out - and one of those is from the mines, so he won't be taking that one. He'll be coming the way you came - but the walls are steep enough that I doubt you'll be able to set up much of an ambush."

QM Note: If I try to describe the geography...it's just going to be hard. This was originally planned to be a much more visual quest than it's ended up being. Then Blender stopped importing correctly... :hmpf_bad:

Suffice it to say, there's effectively only one road in, and the walls of said road are steep enough that there isn't room for an ambush.

"Right over there." The dwarf motions to the building next to the party.

16826191930_2936b7845c_z.jpg

"'Allo, and what can I interest y'all in?"

Blacksmith:

Shovel (Allows the user to dig the ground in search of a treasure.) Costs 5 gold.

Pickaxe (Allows the user to dig through a breakable wall or obstacle.) Costs 10 gold.

Well-Balanced Scythe (Scythe, WP:5; suitable for rogues, alchemists, artisans and necromancers, turns rolls of Miss into Aim) Costs 75 gold.

Plains Axe (WP:5; suitable for barbarians, alchemists, beast warriors, infiltrators, regulators and winged warriors, double damage to wood-elemental enemies) Costs 70 gold.

QM Note: A friendly tip for everyone exploring the town - if you feel industrious, you might do some price comparisons.

Warlen glances interestedly over the thing on offer, his hands picking up the pick axe. He moves to purchase it, but before doing so, he thinks that he might want to spend his money on something else. Putting it back down, he discreetly exits the shop and moves to the general store.

"Well met master Smith. You have an interesting selection of wares. I would have expected more weapons in a frontier town. Is there no armed presence here? I mean no disrespect, but how is it that this bandit has made such easy prey of your town?"

Vindsval looks at the Half-elf examining yet another digging implement. Is Warlen certain he is not a dwarf?

"We're not really a town, here - the settlement's really just a glorified bunk-house for off-duty miners. And a half-way point for gold shipments, of course. The mine itself is much better guarded."

QM Note: I would like to point out that although it might seem like a useless item at the moment*, if you ever need someone to disbelieve your character, the Ten-Gallon hat might not be the worst thing to have in your inventory. Just a thought.

Annienal pulls out 10 coins and purchases a Pickaxe. She then removes her Highwaymen Longsword.

"Um, excuse me, sir? I'm, um, willing to sell this if you buy used weapons."

339-10=329 coins.

"I meant no offense, but I certainly expected to find more men here to protect your livelihood. I will need to speak with the defenders of your mine. If I were to run a place such as this I would have greater protection where the gain is greater. May the Wanderer shine upon your path."

With that Vindsval leaves the Blacksmith and travels to the General Store.

He looks over the items for sale and cannot help but smirk at the "Ten Gallon Hat." Perhaps one day he will have the opportunity to give it to his young friend lucas.

"I would purchase your Ten-Gallon Hat. I know of a youngling who would find it most amusing."

He hands the storekeeper a gold piece in exchange for the laughable hat. After completing the transaction vindsval attempts to gain more information about the bandit.

"My companions and I were called to deal with this bandit by the name of Cole. What can you tell me of this man?"

Ooc-Exactly what I was thinking!

Warlen should have 32 gold, sooo...

From the store he purchases 2 milks and 6 Ten-Gallon hats, enough to equip a whole party.

Then he walks over the the blacksmith and buys a pickaxe, ignoring Vindsvals smile, leaving him with 0 gold.

He then goes to a place where no one can see him and digs with his shovel.

Ooc: Thanks for the awesomely cheap quest hack, bro!

"It's a growing mine. For a while there, it was barely worth working - and then we suddenly were pulling it out by the coach-load. We'll get it better guarded soon, but we're still adjusting to the change."

The storekeeper shrugged. "Can't say much - I'm new here. I just know what I've heard - that he's a mean son of a gun, with a nice hat and he rides a white horse."

Vindsval stuffs the comical hat into his bags and nods to the Shopkeep.

"Many thanks sir, I hope that we will be able to help remove the threat of this man."

With this he bows his head slightly to the man who must be brave to make a living in such a place and heads to his final unexplored area the Spider Saloon.

Warlen finds 2x Shiny Gold Rocks - worth 1 each gold at normal shops, or worth 5 at magic stores for the mica.

QM Note: Well, I figured that different locations would have different prices on goods, so it didn't make sense to just cut and paste from the Marketplace - and why shouldn't a Western-themed quest have cheaper picks and shovels?

I'm glad people are liking the Ten-Gallon hat. :classic:

The roof of the Spider Arm's Saloon hangs down low, the oddly placed lanterns burning even in the middle of the day.

Inside he finds himself pleasantly enveloped by cold air, the cool grey walls arching high above him. From somewhere deep inside the crevice going back into the mountain, the proprietress emerges, and scurries back across her webs up to front. She smiles at the cleric.

"Vand how vay I velp you?"

Vindsval sighs as he enters the significantly cooler consigns of the Spider Arm's. He raises an eyebrow slightly as he sees the proprieties. He raises two fingers to his forehead in a formal greeting.

"Well Met Web Spinner, You saloon is a welcome respite from the heat of these lands. I am called Vindsval, and I am among those who were called here to deal with the plight of the bandits who plague your town. Can you tell me anything of them? Do you know of any rumors surrounding them?"

QM Note: I need to take a break for a moment, here's the list for the Saloon:

Spider's Arms Saloon:

Ambrosia (Causes the reinforced-effect, double the target's defense for the duration of one battle.) Costs 60 gold.

Flame-distilled Brandy - Causes the encouraged- and the immune to ice-effects for the duration of one battle. Costs 25 gold.

Hurricane - This exotic drink grants the Hilariously and Luckily Drunk-effect, doubling the power of every attack, provided the consumer can state a pun related to his attack with every attack for the duration of one battle. Costs 6 gold.

Mulled Wine - Causes the inspired-effect, doubling the target's current and maximum health for the duration of one battle. Costs 50 gold.

Nostrum (Causes the lucky-effect, allowing the target to roll the battle die twice and get the better result of the two for the duration of one battle.) Costs 30 gold.

"Interesting drinks my good lady."

Vindsval purchases 4 hurricanes, they may come in handy and be thoroughly entertaining in the future.

Vindsval watches the small dwarf, err I mean half elf, back out in fear. It would seem that not all individuals are as tolerant as they would have us belief.

Warlen pockets the gold and walks into the saloon just behind Vindsval, getting an obvious fright at the huge spider.

"Ummm... Hi? I'm Warlen..." he says nervously.

"Vello, Varlen-"

Warlen backs out slowly, back to the general store.

-"Vand vood-bye, Varlen."
"Hi, I was wondering if you might like to purchase an exotic fruit, a 'Banana'. I Would be willing to sell it to you, if you are interested, my good fellow?"

Ooc-Restores full health.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure how much it's worth, and it looks perishable, but it also does look exotic... Hmm, I believe I could give you 25 gold for it."

QM Note: No idea how much it's supposed to be worth - but if it restores full health, and Grand Potions give 25 health each, 25 gold is two Grand Potions(for 50 health, which is about as high as most heroes might get at the moment), plus an extra five for the exotic-ness.
