Heroica RPG - Quest #131: The Kind of Law They'd Understand

Miderun pulls her bloodied club away as Cole falls off the opposite side of his saddle, looking pleased with herself as she stowed her weapon, walked around the horse, and kicked Cole in the side to see if he was still alive.

Miderun felt Cole's body strangely give way to her foot as she kicked it. There were no signs of life left in him whatsoever.

When he has finished dividing the loot, Vindsval stands and looks towards the pile of bodies in the road.

"Why would the man not show his face?"

The Cleric moves the Cole's body and removes his hat in order to get a clear look at the man who could bend men and beast to his will as well as bring terror to an entire community.

The Cleric slowly pulled the hat off. At first, it barely moves, seeming almost to be secured to Cole's head...Then it gives way with a rush.

A head shaped mass of crusty sand falls apart as the hat and the wig are removed. Whatever secrets Cole may have known, whatever claims he may have had to the gold - indeed, even the man himself - all of them exist no longer.

With the battle ended, the mine foreman came out of the building he'd taken shelter in while the Heroes stood guard. He slapped Miderun on the shoulder.

"Fine number you did there on Cole, greenie. I guess from now on, you'll be known around here as the *Woman Who Killed Sean Cole*."

Vindsval says a prayer of release over each of the slain, His arm beginning to glow gold with a holy light, sending their souls to The Wanderer in tribute and for their eternal justice.

"May your next path be the one each of you deserve."

He turns and walks to the foreman, taking his share of the offered gold.

"I am pleased that we were able to rid your land of the evil oppressing it. Though I cannot help but feel there was more to the story. What connection did Cole and the other Ancient have to this land?"

When we all moved out here, there was nothing but weeds and sand. Then one day, that Cole fellow, he comes a-riding in for the first time. We'd a-heard about him before from a few friendly Lucustoids - some lonely devil that lived some-wheres or other with a few pieces of muck ore like himself - but I've never heard of anything beyond that. Just another low-life, I reckon."

Taking one last look at Cole, Annienal looked somewhat disappointed. Who really knew who he was or where he came from.

"Congratulations on the find, miss - geodes aren't the most common things." He looked up the sky. "Where does the time go...Well, here's your 200 gold each, and thanks for the excellent performance. I need to get back to work - we may have found a snug little gem stash of our own - but feel free to browse around before y'all leave - or not, whichever works."

Annienal takes her two gemstones and pockets them.

"Thank you sir, and to you sir, have a good day." Annienal puts everything she gained onto her person before taking off the Wonky Boots and returning them to Vindsval.

"Um.... they may be a little... smelly... I'd advise washing them, Vind." Annienal puts her own boots back on before looking the town over. She pulls out her journal and begins to write. "I'm heading back shortly. I just... want to write some things down..."

Annienal sits on the steps of the General Store, making sure she gets details of the town down. It had been a strange day, but the ordinary never made for interesting stories.

He turned to his questmates.

"So. The quest is through. The job is done. But d'you know what?" His companions looked on expectantly.

"Well? I asked you a question! I'm not going to be a guy who actually makes inspirational speeches!"

Before leaving, Warlen purchases 4 Hurricanes and a tourists hat (25 gold).

She turned, and then began the long trek back to Eubric.

Bobby waved good bye to Miderun cheerfully. "See you at home, Midie!" He tosses the Twin Sai to Vind. "Thanks man, you've always got my back. You're the diggity dog. Want to walk home together and have a chat? It's a long trip. I'll pack some cheese and bread or something."

[Asphalt]

"The diggity dog, Is that a good thing my little spiky one?" Vindsval smiles, sometimes it is fun to give Bobby a hard time. He stowes the sai in his gear bags, checks that Verkenner is secure in its scabbard and turns to the road out of town. "It would indeed shorten the journey to have an old friend beside me. Let us return to Heroica, and Cooler Climes."

Vindsval heads out on the road to the Hall, Bobby beside him. "Though perhaps that coachman will help us shorten still more."
