SirNadroj Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 (edited) Hello again. I thought I would reveiw one of my favorite peices of all times: The Admiral Bicorne!!! I absolutely LOVE this hat. Why? It sure beats the heck out of me, I guess I've always admired it. About a month ago I was lucky enough to score a Knights of Columubs hat for about $15 USD at a flea market. The hat is almost identical to the lego version, so I thought I would make a little thread about it. I know, I'm makin' a big deal over the hat. Oh well! :-P Here is a picture of my parrot and the hat. Why my parrot? 'Cause she is both piratical and parrotical! :-D Overveiw: Another side shot: Front: Close-Up Front: Notice the real one has yellow tassels in the front. As a side note also, this specific hat is supposed to be worn 'vertically', like Goveronr Broadside, as apposed to Admiral Woodhouse's, worn 'horizontally'. Leading Officers: Scale Comparison: Lego Version Side: Lego Version Front: Lego Version Back: And now Admiral Davenport will wear the hats in the three different 'styles': Also, here is a picture of me wearing the hat. (Yes, my face is blocked out.) Head-on: 'Sideways' And there you have it: The Admiral/Governor Bicorne! EDIT: And as requested by Mr. Phes: Edited August 6, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote
PSPguy Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 (edited) Your really obsessed with this thing arent you Lordan. EDIT: AH HA! Your really arent a Lego fig! I knew it. Go me Go me Go me. :-P I got to go before the pirate forum kills me. ;-) Edited August 4, 2007 by PSPguy Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 4, 2007 Author Posted August 4, 2007 (edited) I wouldn't say obsessed, but I do appreciate the hat. X-D EDIT: Ya got me! Edited August 4, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote
ZeekyBoogeyDoog Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I loved that picture showing the two hats together, I don't think I ever actually thought about the relative sizes of minifigs and people. Yay for hats!! Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks. I know, its weird to compare lego things to real things to see the scale. Quote
Shadows Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 It's a nice hat and all, but you should really have that huge mole in the middle of your face checked out, it could be serious ... :-P To be perfectly honest, as nice as it is, I don't think I'd feel like I could be taken seriously in a hat like that. It's a lot like the powdered wigs of the various eras, just a bit too frilly for me. The size comparison was great though and that's a fine parrot you've got! *y* Quote
Siegfried Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I think this is the most surprising review on Eurobricks yet! Have you worn the hat out yet? Do you put it on and give orders around your house? Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Personally, I think the LEGO version is a damn good close version of the real thing. THough, there's something wrong with your face mate, go to a doctor already! Quote
El Bucanero Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Nice hat! Although I think the lego version would have much less feather on it.. You've just proven the LEGO bicorne is a realistic hat! Bicorne on Mr Tiber Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks everyone. But I don't wear it around my house. X-D I feel like its all dusty and old since it is an antique. And my face is fine, don't worry about it! :-D Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 5, 2007 Governor Posted August 5, 2007 'Sideways' And there you have it: The Admiral/Governor Bicorne! Why isn't the parrot sitting on your shoulder? You'll need to take another picture with that correction. X-D Quote
Capn Frank Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 ...And my face is fine, don't worry about it! :-D Are you sure your face is fine? 8-o I've never seen anything like that before :-D Great hat though *y* Thanx for sharing P Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Its a unique condition, but I'm ok! :-D Thanks! Quote
Wout Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Nice review, Sir Nadroj. Is it real antique, or is it for carneval or Theater? :) Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 (edited) Thanks Wout. To my knowlegde, it is an antique Knights of Columbus hat, not a naval hat, but I imagine they are identical (4th Degree: The highest rank) It did have a pin of the logo on it, which I removed: (Wiki Article) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of_columbus I've done research on the current hats, and I don't think they're made from the same material, so I guess it must be antique. My next task: Buy an authentic tricorne! :-D Edited August 6, 2007 by SirNadroj Quote
Lord Beckett Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Nice review, Sir Nadroj. Is it real antique, or is it for carneval or Theater? :) I imagine it's for acting purpose or something like that. If it was a real navy hat it would have cost more than $15... Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 I imagine it's for acting purpose or something like that. If it was a real navy hat it would have cost more than $15... It did belong to some Knight of Columbus, but some ecentric lady bought it as wardrobe for her theater preformances, what ever they might be. She didn't need it anymore, so I bought it along with the sash, and I got shanghied into buying a U.S. Army Surgeon's jacket from her as well. Quote
Scouty Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 That's neat. Thanks for the review. It's rather close to the real thing, good job Lego! :capn: Nice parrot btw ;) (Walking sig man!) Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 7, 2007 Author Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks Imperial Scouts. (The walking sig man is a test, I'm workin on the real thing now. ;-) ) Quote
