My apologies if I put this in the wrong forum. I just thought it was worth mentioning. Apparently YouTube reviewer JangBricks has achieved the milestone of 300,000 regular subscribers. So Congratulations are in order. Well done Jang!

It's also fascinating from our point of view. 300,000 Lego enthusiasts regular going on YouTube to view his content. That is a lot of AFOL's and families. Maybe there are more of our type people out there then we tend to think.

In praise of Jang, he puts on a good show. He has that smooth flawless announcers voice. He just quickly and efficiently shows off the sets with high production values and lets you form your own opinions. So well done Jang and team!

I really love Jang's channel on youtube. He seems like such a chilled out guy and he really does make fantastic reviews and also fantastic MOCS. I really wonder though how he can afford so much Lego and to devote such a huge amount of his time to the hobby. He always has every new set and makes tonnes of bricklink orders. Really I am just jealous that he can do it and I can't!

I don't subscribe to JangBricks (or any other Youtube channel) but I do seek his reviews of sets in which I'm interested. He covers all the salient points and his filming is OK for the most part. Unlike The Brick Show, Jang is articulate and doesn't shout at you. In fact, Jang is one of my three favourite Youtube reviewers. The other two are Artifex and Brick Queen.

If he has 300,000 subscribers, he can afford it because he is making a lot of money, probably 6 figures, from his LEGO work. That's how. It's a full time, well paying job.

EDIT: by LEGO work I mean what he is doing on Youtube. 300,000 subscribers is huge. Lots of money to be made.

"his LEGO work" - you mean the content of the videos, or something else (i.e., actually working for LEGO, a Bricklink store or whatever)? That much just from YT's partner program?

Youtube can make you a lot of money, especially if you have 300k subscribers. People can probably live comfortably with just 100k subscribers. The other thing is the length of the videos. Longer the videos, the more viewer engagement and more $$. Why do you think there are so many youtubers now days doing LEGO. Unlike a website, there is no startup cost, no hosting cost, and no bandwidth cost. Youtube covers it all.

Oh, I knew something about the YouTube partner program; I just didn't know if you were referring simply to that, or if JangBricks had some other means of making money from his hobby.

He deserves it. He has a nice manner of reviewing sets old and new. He is a long time Lego fan and moc builder.

He often highlights new or interesting parts use and building techniques so it's not like getting a review from someone who just collects toys.

Other reviewers content often consists of a list of things pedestrian statements "You get two flick fire missiles, you get a cockpit that opens.." Which is less engaging and is really information you can glean from a static image.

I subscribe to Jang Bricks and I am always pleased to see him posting new reviews.

I just recently discovered his channel and have watched a lot of his videos. I love that he also covers all the Classic Space stuff, and also other old and classic sets. That's actually the videos I'm interested in the most.

And I find it bizarre that I actually spend time to watch someone else open his Bricklink orders.

Congrats to my favorite LEGO reviewer. I watch his reviews even for some sets that i'd never buy. It is very hard to be professional in reviewing, you have to give an opinion, but not be too direct.

Another thing I really appreciate is, he doesn't make any annoying sounds, doesn't shout or try to be funny too hard like many, many others out there. (I have to mute my speakers for the brick show for the first couple seconds of every video)

Good for him, I used to watch his videos, but he just talks toooo much! I find myself fast forwarding. I kind of prefer videos that show the set being built, more useful for me.

While he has never to my knowledge revealed much of his background or non Lego / Toy related life, just from the few things we see I suspect that he has some degree of background in producing video or film content. His very steady warm engaging "presenters" voice is something people often work very hard at achieving professionally. He has mentioned that he is West Coast US, and the rooms we have seen lead one to suspect LA just on the styling. All of his stuff is made with very high production values. Not necesarily high budget, but he obviously knows what tools to use to good effect and where to spend a bit. He has at times commented on things like the licensed music he uses etc. So he seems very skilled and experienced at this sort of presentation. If I had to guess I would say prior to him finding an awesome niche making films about his hobbies he was likely involved in making documentary, marketing or education and training films. I can just hear his sweet steady dulcet tones overlaying a police training video on bomb disposal "now whatever you do don't cut the red wire. always only cut the blue..."

To contrast this, most of the other Lego or Brick presenters are either from unrelated careers who are learning as they go (and yeah I know some don't care for the Brick Show Guys, but they really have vastly improved their production values and grown with their offerings.) or are younger students who are once again learning a craft as they share their hobby with us.

I recommend you go through his main site, which he's linked to a few times on his LEGO one. From what I've gathered, he did a lot of RC toy reviews before LEGO, and has been a huge presence in the RC community since the early 2000s. You can compare some of his early non-LEGO videos on his other channels, and you can see he has learned as time progressed. He's a very hard working dude, and it really payed off.

I subscribed a while ago, so I see his uploads in my feed (like a billion reviews per week - so much work) but I don't feel the need to watch very often. Good for him, he's one of the least annoying reviewers out there. I don't know why he bothers to make some videos, but hey, someone must be interested in what collectible minifig is in the random bag today...

Yeah I don't watch his (or anyone's) videos much any more, he rambles a bit. It's better rambling than anyone else, but it still slows things down a bit too much at times.

I have been watching his reviews for some time and i must admit I like them very much. The plus for me is that he reviews Technic models as well, not many reviewers do that :sweet:

Jang is up there with Just2Good and Brick Show with me. The guy's calm, his presentation is thorough and he demonstrates many features of a set, and his voice is soothing along with his choices in background music. Plus his classic space reviews are a great blast from the past. When the other brick reviewers are over the top and kind of corny, Jang's the place to go if you want a more sedate reviewer.
