https://ideas.lego.c...ects/68687 The LDD file was provided for the ship and 2 bases (plus another extra) in the comment. I wanted to tweak it, change nonexistent color, replace old color with modern color, and such.

Peeling back the wing of the ship, the person used a lot of hinge plates with 2/3 fingers to get studs on both side of the wings. The hinge plates haven't been produced since 2006, is there a modern part in production that can do the same trick? With multiple hinges and plates, I am wondering if the ship's wings may be a bit flimsy?

Do Lego have anything like this available? I'm not sure where i got it but i think it may be mega block. 2x2 plate with double sided studs.

I don't know if this is quite correct, but there are the new parts like these might help:

They don't lay flat 100% but maybe you can leave an open space in the wing for the actual hinge. It's about as close as I could find to the original.

With the multiple contact points he designed with those hinge plates, I'm thinking that's a pretty stable design. With the greebling on both sides, that would just make it even stronger.

I'm glad you posted that picture- I had seen the project, but not that particular peel-away shot.

That's a real idea starter!!

I would suggest the mega blocks route personally. Those peices make things really solid in building.

From a lego pure perspective... Nothing that I can think of will be as flat. They all have a slight raise to them on the edges.the only thing i can suggest would increase the thickness, is travis blocks layered sideways.

Burn it! I personally would agree with Murdoch, it would leave a gap, but maybe greebles could be added...? Thanks for sharing that picture, I hadn't seen the insides of that beast before.

there actually is a small round 1x1 brick using for a small tyre/wheel that has studs on both sides with a small stick, those can be used in a way you are asking for
