brickpicker_set_8275-1_2.jpg

As you can see 8275 has alot of exposed studs, since this set uses alot of studded beams and non Technic parts. I am very close to gathering al the parts i need to build this, but i am not a fan of the exposed studs and was thinking about buying lots of yellow flat tiles in differnet sizes to cover up these studs.

What do you think?

but is that not part of the charm from this awesome set? having an all time classic at the cross road between studded and studless?

or is that just me?

I guess...but the set does use a fair amount of flat tiles to cover certain areas....i was just considering expanding on that.

Why not simpy go for it and see what the outcome will be.

No, I agree with you. IMO sets like these combine the best of two 'eras'.

I think the arms on which the blade is connected could use tiles, but I wouldn't change the blade itself. I think tiles there would alter the shape too much.

And yeah, I agree with Jantjeuh and dougstar, studs are part of the charm of this set. In fact, this was one of the reasons for me to buy it. :D

If your going to make is stud-less why not re design it , just using beams and Technic panels .

But I do agree with Doug what Doug says , but every one has their won ideas.

On i side not I ma sure some one has made a digital file of this set some place , why not get taht and put some tiles on it digitally and get and idea of what it would look like .

For the main chassis, i'm sure you can replace many of the beams with smooth liftarms, such as some of the ripper parts and the yellow beams on each side of the cab. As for the blade, you can get a very similar geometry by using gray technic panels (below) in the center and the new yellow trapezoid panel (below) for the sides. This is available from the small yellow mining truck 42035.

I guess it would be "stud-less" in a literal sense as there would be no studs visible, but a real studless model doesn't use bricks and instead uses beams and such

Since when is no exposed studs more beautiful than exposed studs?

End the unfair standards, all Lego is beautiful!!!!!!!!!11!!!

Real Lego, Real studs.

But, really, it's all up to you. I found the .LXF file of 8275, and put tiles over all of the exposed studs on the beams, and for me it did not make much of a difference. :look: You may feel differently, but that's okay.

MOD it to your heart's contend. I do that pretty much with my sets. There is always something to tweak to my personal tastes. :classic:

I know I'm coming to this party late, but I'm gathering the parts to build this model and would like to make it studless too. Did any of you build it and if so would you share your progress and pictures.

I personally don't like holes in technic legos... Panels are good and everything else is also good what covers and makes structure smooth, i liked very much Milans' crane contest entry because it looked really solid and not like shot with the machine gun on everywhere on the hull... It is hard to build something which does not look like it is just holes in everywhere on the structure...
