Is Lego getting to expensive

it's expensive, yes, but not too expensive. At least as far as new stuff.

The second hand market is all over the place - $1200 for an 8275? Obviously there is a limited market for sellers at this level, but nevertheless, stuff does seem to move at prices way beyond the original suggested retail price. IMO, it's only that market that could be deemed 'too expensive', but that's not really of TLGs making.

I'd have to agree on the stuff being too expensive on the secondary market, but going by the actual question, I feel as if Lego hasn't gotten any more expensive. Prices have actually been relatively constant, but quality of sets has gone up dramatically. C'mon, why gripe about price, when you can gripe about the lack of availability of parts in certain colors, or any of the innumerable other things we fans gripe about?

Agreed! always waiting for the right parts to make their way onto the pick-a-brick wall is painstaking ! this is the cheapest way to get bulk pieces but far too slow for my "needs".

As far back as I can remember, Lego has always been expensive...

Lego is pricey indeed. But compared to other model building hobbies, it's OK. Given the fact, that you can use the parts on RC cars with all that glue and bolts only once, Lego becomes more efficient in terms of recycling parts for new builts. Last year I passed on the 42030. I bought the bucket and a few of those new elements and built it from my inventory. Same goes for the 42029. For this year I'll pass on the crawler crane and just get the new transmission parts and the Acros.

I wish more boxes were foldable like with the exclusives. Some Technic sets nowadays have a foldable box but for the flapped flagship boxes it will be harder (but it is not impossible!)
