peter_m Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Those are the same wheels 5571 - 68.8 x 24 42043 - 62.4 x 20 (like 8241, 8258, 8285) This Merc begs for 68.8 x 24 Edited January 28, 2015 by peter_m Quote
zux Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 While I like the model itself I don't find it The Best Technic Set Ever produced by TLG, probably just Best Truck What I really like is a complexity and features set includes. These looks to be quite cool and realistic. Oh and there are a lot of nice new parts and new colors of existing parts I'm mostly exited. And the best thing is that Pneumatics are still called Pneumatics! Quote

Tell me what makes it the best then cos I'm struggling to think it is! The best set will be the one with RC+Pneumatics+LAs. SO not this one unfortunately.. I'm building a 8455 these days.....7 pneumatic functions, steered wheel, fake engine and rear differential.....and JUST 700 pieces! Can LEGO do anymore better? Not sure... Sorry but there are few points I don't like of it. Of course it's only my opinion but: Outriggers are wrong placed...they should be under the turntable. The front may need a bit of imporvements..let's say it's OKish...not so cool as the Unimog tho! RC+Pneumatic would make it perfect! Quote

That's because "Best" is different for each person. While set is very nice in terms of new parts and pieces I don't find it that much exiting to have it as day 1 purchase. You both should be happier about "Pneumatics" part of my reply! Motion flow was suggested and supported by some people Quote
allanp Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) "And the best thing is that Pneumatics are still called Pneumatics!" I hadn't noticed this before. They wanted to change the name? I remember as a kid I called them pen-knee-aye-you-matics! I kinda knew I was pronouncing it wrong, just not how to say it correctly and thinking back, I think that made them a bit cooler to me, the fact that even the name itself was so complex I couldn't even say it just made them feel like some next level stuff that I wanted to reach. If the name was dumbed down for the sake of the 7 year old I was then I don't think the name would have seemed so cool. If they do want to change it, change it to hydraulic and make it hydraulic What's so good about RC anyway? It's good if you don't want to move to change channels (maybe yall just lazy ) or you want to control something that's moving 40mph (like a real RC toy) or 50 feet up like a crane but other than that I don't see the point of it. All it does is drive up the cost. Personally I think Lego is better being a hands on thing. Edited January 28, 2015 by allanp Quote
Emmi Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I think the set is just amazing ... and this will be much better than the Unimog, at least for me. A lot more functions, more parts, seems like a very complex and challenging build, 12 tyres!!!!, suspension!!!!, great look, etc. Quote

OG_technic Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 They could've done a better job on the cabin. IMO the area around the doors look rather messy and the grill while interesting isn't the most elegant solution. Honestly the ugly cabin is totally made up for by the sheer size and complexity of the thing. Does anyone know for sure if the rear suspension is pendular instead of being fully suspended? Quote
D3K Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Lol I'm far from a moaner. Thanks for ur input though :) Not much pictures on fire plane yet but hopefully more will appear soon. Though I'm not certain about the exact definition of "moaning," maybe nagging is a better word? EDIT: Also; Fire Plane? Isn't this the MB Arocs topic? END EDIT. Ok so share with us what u think is the best set cause I'm struggling to think of a better? Yes rc pneumatics would be great but I'm not sure we will get that any time soon. So to date this will be the best I think. Unimog is a great set but this is better. That's obvious! (and those quotes are just from the last couple of hours) This is obviously your opinion! That doesn't make it everyone else's opinion! Given that it's not even released for another 7-8-9 months, how can you be so sure, and how is it obvious? I wholly agree that this will probably be one awesome set, but it's by no means perfect, and people are allowed to voice their opinions and come with constructive criticism regarding certain parts of the construction without you shooting them down and defining them as moaners. I'm pretty sure we all think this set is exciting and looks great Edited January 28, 2015 by D3K Quote
allanp Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) (Bin inhale!) The rear axles are a single unit (suspended by 4 springs) that pivots longitudinally to allow the two axles to twist independently from each other by means of a 28t turntable piece allowing full suspension and both rear axles to be connected to the engine whilst all fitting between the dual rear wheels. Simples! BTW has nobody noticed when I mentioned earlier that there is also a new stronger turntable for the crane arm? Edited January 28, 2015 by allanp Quote
Omikron Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) BTW has nobody noticed when I mentioned earlier that there is also a new stronger turntable for the crane arm? I don't think it's new or stronger. Look at 42042 video. It shakes just like the old one. Why would TLG use a stronger turntable on small crane but not on the big one? kandykop Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Unimog is a great set but this is better. That's obvious! For me,I do not think it is better than the Unimog. They both have suspensions, pneumatic system and light grey 5X11 panels which I consider valuable parts. They are very similar in my opinion. Unimog has rarer tires while 043's tires are so common(I have more than 200 of 043's tires and have no idea how to deal with them). I think 043 is a great set indeed, I just don't see why it is better than Unimog and what makes it the best technic set. "Obvious" is very weak when making argument. This is obviously your opinion! That doesn't make it everyone else's opinion! Given that it's not even released for another 7-8-9 months, how can you be so sure, and how is it obvious? Askan Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Dont forget that the unimog is the best looking flagship since Air Tech Claw Rig. And that is not just my opinion, that is a fact ;) Quote

Saberwing40k Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Pause this video at 0:39 pretty sure it's a new and stronger turntable. Son of a gun, you're right. Maybe they only installed a finalized version in one of the Arocs, and the cranes have prototypes. Quote
Omikron Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 It's probably a prototype. Since crane demonstration video showed that the turntable was weak. Quote
nicjasno Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I think it has the same snap connections as the small turntables, which is great, because the small turntables are very strong and don't wobble. Quote
fasterthanlight Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Hrmm... from the video this "new turntable" still only has 3 pinhole mounts on the top, and seems to be the same dimensions as the current "flimsy" turntable. If they were to introduce a new sturdier turntable, would it not make sense to scale it up appropriately? Part of the issue is that the current one is so small compared to the size of the new MOCs everyone is building these days. Quote
Thirdwigg Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'm not convinced it's a new turntable. I would welcome it, but I don't see enough that shows me it is. Quote
