Lyichir Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Just finished building the smallest two sets, Ultimate Lavaria and Lance's Mecha Horse. I like them all a lot, but I'm a little confused why Lance's horse uses red 4-long axles and yellow 3-long ones, despite the fact that using the already existing black and light grey versions would fit better in the color scheme. Any idea what's going on with that? I've heard that yellow and red axles will be replacing the black and grey ones altogether, but I don't know how reliable that is (some of this year's Bionicle sets use red/yellow and some use black/grey, but it's hard to tell if that's just a transitional situation to use up older axles, or if the red and yellow axles will remain an alternate color like the red and black 2M axles have been up to this point). However, even if black and grey axles are sticking around for some sets, the likely reason why that specific set uses red and yellow ones is for contrast. This often runs totally counter to AFOLs' desire for color coordination, but the whole point of brightly-colored axles and pins in the first place is to make builds easier for all builders (especially kids). Now that red and yellow axles exist, sets like the Mecha Horse that use a significant amount of grey and very little red or yellow are prime choices for these new colors specifically because they don't match the rest of the color scheme. x105Black Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 The axles may not fit in with the rest of the colors in the set, but I'd say they go well with the theme overall. Quote

Lordofdragonss Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 A review with Lego Nexo knights Designers: Summer sets: I'm really suprised that the same guy designed Macy and Aarons vechicles - crossbow looks great but Macys... It's really weak... Fortrex is still the best! :D Quote
ChristopheQ Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) It was posted here 6 weeks ago, but it's good you reposted it, nobody reacted at the time. It was probably hidden in the flows of info end of January. interview of one of the NK designer, with (few) more info on Macy and Aaron vehicles http://zusammengebau...-designer-4403/ I'm really suprised that the same guy designed Macy and Aarons vechicles - crossbow looks great but Macys... It's really weak... I agree. among the knights sets, Aaron's crossbow is arguably the prettiest, and Macy's mace the ugliest. But to his defense he had few pieces to play with... Probably not easy to get a good transformation and keep it good looking (still Lance horse imho is kinda ugly but has at least an impressive transformation). DraikNova Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I think Macy's is pretty sleek-looking, but not particularly mace-like. I do appreciate that it has the handle, though. Clay's is probably the best, with Lance's being the worst, although Aaron's crossbow looks somewhat chaotic as well. Incidentally, I did some calculations, and the bad guys have a lot fewer pieces in their sets overall (as in, the total amount of pieces in bad guy sets is lower than good guy sets). That wouldn't even be that big of a deal if they'd bothered to include a few extra globlins in sets. In the show they make up like 95% of Jestro's forces, in the sets they're only featured in Beast Master's sets and in the Glob Lobber. Here's hoping they'll be relatively cheap to order. I figure 50 of them will make a good army. Edited March 13, 2016 by DraikNova Quote

JurrasicPiggy Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Just got the evil mobile, however I didn't enjoy it too much so I decided to turn it into a castle. I think I just made it worse! I'll share pics soon. Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 The thunder mace looks awful, but Aaron's Crossbow V2 looks really good. It's just a shame the knights didn't get new outfits for the summer wave. I look forward to 2017 for their next outfits with gold on them. Quote
CM4Sci Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Are you saying 2017 outfits have gold on them? :) Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Don't mark my word on that, but it's expected. Quote
Lyichir Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Yesterday I got a bunch of Nexo Knights sets and built the Fortrex. I don't know how I never realized that Merlok would be printed rather than stickered, but he ends up looking great—and because of the silver ink he's printed with, he looks all shiny from both sides! DraikNova Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Does anyone have any ideas how to approximate the mandibles of the Lava Beetle from the app with real bricks? Quote
NotMegalodon Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) amazon.de currently has Clay's and Jestro's vehicles (70315 and 70316) 33% off. Might be a good buy if you're still looking for both, even outside of Germany. http://www.amazon.de...brickwatch08-21 (€29,99) http://www.amazon.de...brickwatch08-21 (€39,99) Oh, a little less off considering German prices, but compared to Dutch prices, they are 33% cheaper. Aanchir Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 The thunder mace looks awful, but Aaron's Crossbow V2 looks really good. It's just a shame the knights didn't get new outfits for the summer wave. I look forward to 2017 for their next outfits with gold on them. I don't mind the knights having the same outfits in the summer wave, to be honest. It's hard enough collecting all the characters as it is! I mean, if the knights had new outfits in the summer wave, there'd be only one set with each version of Axl! Given how many characters LEGO Nexo Knights has, I think that the regular and "Ultimate" versions of the knights are plenty for one year. Quote
DraikNova Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I honestly think it was a rather strange choice to call the special versions of the knights "Ultimates", despite the fact that they're almost definitely going to release more special versions in 2017. I also wonder whether Nexo Knights will stick to a 3-year cycle of main characters, corresponding to the graduation of new knights. That way, they could slowly build up an ever-bigger world without making extreme levels of attention to the series a necessity to following it. Add in the fact that some characters, like Robin and Ava, would show up before their graduation, this would give each character large amounts of detail, especially if they bother to maintain the current amount of media (8 webisodes, power videos, 20 tv episodes a year and little things like the Knights of the Realm video from the app, which probably amounts to 9+ hours of media in total). Toy designing can be a fickle mistress I guess and I while I have tremendous respect for Lego's designers, the Thunder Mace falls squarely into the category of "they can't all be gems". The set could have really benefited from another 20-25 pieces or so to make the vehicle a bit more substantial and I'm not sure why they didn't do just that as it should have still kept the set within it's design budget. To draw a similar comparison the Blaster Bike from last summer's Ninjago wave had a similar gimmick and a piece count of around 235 or so. So, not sure why they had to cut corners on the Thunder Mace? However, over the last couple of years Lego has done some great sets in the $20 price range in the Action/Adventure category. So I can pretty-much give them a pass on the Thunder Mace. The rest of the wave looks really good. Quote

I think this is done because they went all-in with this new IP; They had to get it right from the start. And in all fairness, these Ultimates are the level 5 characters from the Merlok 2.0 game, which was available from the start. For 2017/2018 they will probably come up with something else at the €9.99 price point. Quote
