makoy Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Having seen the blue and trans-orange colour theme I can't help but equate this to Ice Planet meets KK2. I am interested more on the parts rather than the minifigures or the sets. I think it is more of a successor to Chima for younger kids and if anyone has any problem with it then you're certainly not the target market for this theme. Quote
Robert8 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 If this gets a second wave, I wonder if they are going to introduce a new villain, like Ninjago, or keep Jestro with a new storyline Quote
benderisgreat Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Quick off-topic question: Why is this thread still caled Castle 2016, when we know that this theme is called Nexo Knights? Quote
MAB Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 It may be castle, but it is not historic. The builds don't look historic to me so no interest for me. Quote
x105Black Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Quick off-topic question: Why is this thread still caled Castle 2016, when we know that this theme is called Nexo Knights? Great question. I'd love to know as well. I mean, I get why it was called that in the first place. Originally, we thought there was going to be a Castle theme in 2016. But I guess they're just waiting for the official announcement or something. I think keeping it called "Castle 2016" and keeping it in the Historic themes rather than Action and Adventure are both a bit misleading. Quote
msx80 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I just took a close look at the launcher on Clay's Rumble Blade (what it's called in the image) and it appears that the shields are actually two pieces. There seems to be a dark blue version of the trans-orange pieces on the shields on the top of the launcher. Now I must buy it. They appear to be two pieces: if you look at the castle in the background, it has the "wedge tile" without the back gray plate. Maybe they're even three, since one of the shield is used as a "skateboard" (hey, Legolas did it first! :P ), so it must have at least a stud on the back. Also, i'm pretty sure this theme is not Castle in any way, and i'm also sure Lego is not considering this as such. This thread should be moved to a more appropriate forum. Quote
benderisgreat Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Did anyone see pics of 2 largest sets, or just 6 smaller sets like me? From 6 smaller sets that I saw it's really hard to see the bad guys of this theme besides Jestro. But it's just prelim pics, so it understandable . Knights themselves look just great, kinda futuristic but also a lot like medieval knights. Their shields really peak my interest, they seem to be 2parts build and can be used as hover boards. As for knights characters the big guy in orange armor and regular knight in green are so far my favorites, although it's hard to put them in any context yet. But bad guys don't seem to share a certain theme which is interesting. Also there seems to be lesser robot khights who are Nexos infantry and appear in 2 smallest sets. Also did anyone see information and description on characters of this theme? Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) If this gets a second wave, I wonder if they are going to introduce a new villain, like Ninjago, or keep Jestro with a new storyline It would be great if it does get a second wave(which I'm sure it will). What I would like to see on the next wave are more villain factions, something close to a goblin faction or for the good guys some elves(Elves with future tech armor...now that would be amazing!!!!) Hive Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 When I asked him what kind of Castle theme it would be, he said "It's a lot like the Castle theme from a few years ago, the one with the Dwarves and Trolls." I believe that this is referring to the 2007-2009 Castle line. After having now seen pictures of this abomination of a theme, I'd once again like to refer to the quote that started this whole hype train... Quote
x105Black Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 He didn't know he was being lied to at the time. Or maybe the employee had only heard that same misinformation, based on preliminary concepts. I doubt there were even pictures or real details available at that time. Presumably, it was just in-house rumors and discussion about the plans for 2016. Conjecture from an entire year early isn't likely to pan out as predicted. Quote
gedren_y Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Blue & grey vs. black & red, with monster bad guys. That at least sounds like the first wave of Fantasy Era. Improbable, wacky builds, that too sounds like FE. Numerous vehicle builds. FE was more than a third vehicle oriented builds. Action play oriented sets are what sell to the target audience. The cartoon will likely be labeled Action Adventure, as most fantasy cartoons are. Tech fantasy does qualify as fantasy. MOTU was barbarian tech fantasy, and Nexo Knights can be called medieval tech fantasy. Castle cyberpunk? Yes, this is replacing Chima, which was supposed to replace Ninjago, but failed to capture the audience. Ninjago-esque type sets are likely to be the norm for the target audience for some time. Hopefully we will see some more structure/place builds once the show launches. Quote
Rayskull Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 tip search the korean sites for the pics ;) Quote
CaptainToad Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 just saw the leaked pic on youtube its worse than I thought... this has nothing to do with castle - I just hope that ninjago pirates will be more appealing... hopefully there will be a few surprises coming next year - and hopefully this nexo knights theme will flop so we get a chance to see something else Quote
Cagast Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Search on TTV boards. But there are many more pictures from the catalog on 4chan. Quote
Arlene Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) So this theme is kind of... bright, and actiony. Not really what I was hoping for... But I keep hearing about a tank. I will have to get a tank. I wonder who likes tanks, my agents, or my ninja(go). I doubt my pirates will like it very much. Of course I have to see what the story is about and I tend to become a fan of characters, so... I hope I won't end up buying all of this theme. Edited September 20, 2015 by Arlene Quote
Pulp Detective Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I should remind everyone here that those pictures are prelims, which means they are not the final product. So I would suggest not to be so eager to judge them just yet. Quote

Jreacher Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I saw the leaked pics also. Horrible, just horrible. It looks like the days of good castle sets are gone, as are the days of good pirates sets. Maybe some useful pieces for some, but nothing for me that I can see. My castle world is grey and black, not blue knights, orange pieces etc... Im disappointed here, I was excited for a new castle theme, not a space castle theme with weird and odd objects. Quote
TenorPenny Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I'm a big fan; TLG must be betting that the larger than life exaggerated themes (Ninjago, Chima, etc.) do well with their main demographics. Quote
Ardelon Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) Having seen the pics, Im disappointed, though I was bracing for it. So far the only things I see that I like is the horned helmets and possibly Jestro. And I wouldnt mind if the kettle helm in (dark?) blue makes it past the prelim stage (which I assume it will, else they would have used an existing color helm as a stand-in). I might still grow to appreciate this theme on its own merits, but I was hoping for a more traditional Castle theme, and if this takes its place, I wouldnt like it. Not much of a fan of these zany themes anyway - though I follow the Ninjago story, and I plan to check out this one. Otherwise, this is far too techy for me, and it doesnt even look like there will be many useful parts to harvest. As for whether this is a Castle theme, I dont think so. Chima also had kings and their kingdoms, swords, armor and what not. And this is a theme in the Chima mold. And there is the Ninjago - Ninja 1998 parallel as well. So this gives me hope there will be a more traditional Castle theme next year or sometime parallel with Nexo. As for where this theme belongs here on EB, staff have other considerations apart from the "feel" of a theme. LotR/Hobbit went here to keep this forum active, and with no Castle since 2013 and none forseen, Nexo might get the same treatment. That said, I prefer this to go into A&A, for reasons already stated - the A&A crowd seems to appreciate this theme much more than the traditional Castle builders. 8BrickMario Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I understand peoples' unwillingness to call this Castle because they hate it, but I think it has more than enough Castle elements to count. Knights, wizards, jesters, kings, and an actual castle? It's definitely a Castle theme, but it's far from the traditional medieval fantasy many of us wanted. Quote
Vorkosigan Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I you don't agree about this, it's ok. We don't have to agree about everything But we can't discuss about this anymore because the mods already told us no to talk about where this theme belongs to. I'm not concerned about which forum, I'm concerned about getting getting a more historical CASTLE theme in a year or two. But yes, we can agree to disagree. I do expect to enjoy some aspects of this theme. But my greater hope is that maybe they'll go in a slightly different direction for historical while Nexo Knights is out, perhaps a Rome or Mythology theme? Quote
CM4Sci Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Quick off-topic question: Why is this thread still caled Castle 2016, when we know that this theme is called Nexo Knights? I've suggested it multiple times but ZCerberus refuses to do anything until there's an official word from LEGO. Quote
Isundir Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) I'm talking about the Castle in the background, not Fortrex. I'll go ahead and assume you haven't found the other pictures yet. I haven't found any other pictures no Edit* found them, I don't want to be a debbie downer but that is honestly one of the worst LEGO themes I have ever seen. It's like a terrible attempt at some sort of return to Retro Castle-Space theme done really really poorly. This may be gold for old school retro fans and I can see some elements that may appeal to kids as well, enjoy it if you can, I'm just not part of the demographic for this I guess. egg roller Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) Finally got to see some pictures. CM4Sci's drawings were pretty accurate depictions of the sets, so good job on that. And that's about the only positive thing I have to say. Fears confirmed, this is an abomination. Haha, This. Yes, Sci's drawings were wonderful depictions of the catalogue (unfortunately). Really nicely drawn, and charming. I only wish I could say the same for the actual product. There looks like there could be some cool sigils, but they are connected to the clunky, tech-ridden shields. And what's more is it looks like Red vs. Blue again yaaaayyy!!! Pass.
