Nom Carver Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) With the incoming of the new sets, I hoped to see a new imperial shuttle up to my expectations, however, I didnt like its size or shape of the cockpit so I decided to make my own, unfortunately, I dont have the bricks so it was built in LDD (bricklink doesn't ship to my country), tell me what do you think. ANOTHER UPDATE ( )02-04-2015: Now the wings are on the correct position while on flight and in landing mode without those awful friction bricks (more pics below): Dibujo3 by Nom Carver, on Flickr The wings fold manually one at the time: 10 by Nom Carver, on Flickr But they now stay in the position they should be: 2 by Nom Carver, on Flickr It has a rotating mobile turret on the rear: 13 by Nom Carver, on Flickr It also has place for the emperor and its royal guard: 17 by Nom Carver, on Flickr C&C are welcome. prototype cockpits (yet to be incorporated): shuttle 6 by Nom Carver, on Flickr 7 by Nom Carver, on Flickr 1 by Nom Carver, on Flickr Edited February 5, 2015 by Nom Carver Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Nice job! I've also tried building a shuttle in LDD, and ran into the problem of the cockpit. Your solution is something I would have never imagined. It's pretty much impossible to emulate the UCS versions cockpit, which is a shame. I've come up with my own solution, which works pretty well. It's still not perfect, but... WIP Imperial Shuttle by GuyDudeMan27, on Flickr Edited January 25, 2015 by GuyDudeMan27 Quote
Nom Carver Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 That looks good, but is a little wide, it actually is quite similar in length of the frontal panel (the "face" of the cockpit), I have a couple questions for you: how does the inside of the cockpit look? does it fit comfortably the minifigs? did you finished your shuttle? The interior is essentially just a big plate, but a minifig can fit. I've been working on and off, but right now I'm working on SNOT wings and finishing out the body. It doesn't technically connect to the bottom, but gravity might be my ally IRL. Quote

GuyDudeMan27 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I love the new cockpit! The smoothness looks great, as does the pull out tray. Where do you live so that they don't ship? Quote
Smitty500 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Hey I really like your shuttle, it's very simple and similar to LEGO's previous two shuttles they released years and years ago, looks smaller actually. I love the idea of the pull out try, I think the old one had something similar, but you integrated Palpatine's throne into it. I like the new cockpit much better, because it has sharper edges than using the giant wedges. just looks better overall. The only thing I would try is to fit another Imperial guard in with Palpatine, if possible. Might have to make the tray longer, and they could sit in front of another. If not, It still looks great for a small representation of the ship. Quote

Its actually about the same size as the old one, this one could fit the two guards but very tightly by modifying the little platform, its interior is narrower for structural purposes, the old set had too many flaws for my taste and the latest one will dwarf everything else I have. Thanks for your comments. Quote

DarthTwoShedsJackson Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Some great building ideas for the cockpit here! I'd like to try my hand at this, but make the main body longer and build it as an Imperial Landing Craft as seen in Star Wars Rebels to go with my spare Inquisitor and some Rebels Stormtroopers. Thanks for sharing, and keep it coming! Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Great job! I love these cockpit designs. This really makes me want to finish off mine. And now that I think about it, now would be a great time to post my Imperial Landing Craft.... As soon as I can make some renders.... Quote
Nom Carver Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 I will be looking forward to see your landing craft. Quote
imadcobra Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I also wanted to build my own larger imperial shuttle, but I havent figured out how to use LDD yet, so I combined the 2 sets 7659 Imperial drop ship (body) & 7166 (the top parts and wings) to make a larger set. I used the idea of the cockpit and windscreen from Rufus. And I built an interior for the emperor. At some point I want to replace the grey pieces for white. Quote
Nom Carver Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Nice job with that shuttle, I always wanted to have the official lego set but never had the chance of getting it and now, with the coming of the new Tydirium in the summer wave, I thought it was way too big, but I managed to build most of the vehicle above with my available bricks and realized is actually quite small, the new one its actually going to be about the same size than yours with some amazing building techniques and functions. Nom Carver Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Sorry for the double posting but I managed to build it with my available bricks (with the exception of the cockpit) and I really like it how it came out, there were some issues in the size and shape here and there that were unnoticed on LDD but this way I could improve the original design greatly. The updates are now on the first post. Quote
tonif430 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Nice, nice more updates because each one gets better Quote

Nom Carver Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 I am back with a slight update even though the old cockpit designs were not incorporated because is supposed to be made with the bricks I have available. This time the manual folding/unfolding hinges have been corrected leaving behind for good the old bulky look of the original design. I does great, the friction between this: , this: and this: gives it enough strength to stay in position after about 15° of inclination (or a little more) Quote
imadcobra Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks for your comments Nom Carver. I bought both of the old sets second hand off ebay. I dont have enough spare lego to build a ship. Yours is great, designing it from scratch is cool. I have spent the last week learning to use LDD, I want to design Queen Amidala's Starship, build it, then maybe chrome paint it. Quote
Nom Carver Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Building from scratch is almost an accomplishment because you have to figure out how to replace the missing or unavailable bricks. With LDD you will never have that problem and its quite easy to use, I just found out that the smartest way to create MOCs is by doing your creations with it and later purchase the bricks separately.
