Something I noticed on a trip to my local Lego Store. There was someone going through the polybags of minifigs, and one of the clerks came over to help. I was looking at something else near them and noticed that the clerk had a piece of paper with code numbers printed on it, and from what I could tell, they were the codes for the different mystery minifigs in the bags. The customer was looking for a particular couple of minifigs, and the clerk had what they were written next to the different numbers.

Is that OK to do? I was wondering if anyone ever got any help like that to find the particular minifigs they needed for their collection, and didn't want to buy randomly.

Seems to me, it isn't right.

Any thoughts, experiences? I don't collect any, just was curious about it.

If there's a particular cmf I want I either feel for it or ask a staff member and they feel for it if they don't have any pre sorted under the counter (which they often do).

The store I go to has them numbered. You just have to ask the person at the counter for the "cheat sheet" and you'll be able to know which is which. That's how I got all 16 Simpsons figs the day they came out with no effort at all :)

Didn't know the staff had cheat sheets. Is this something new? Or is it the bump code list? Used to be when I stopped at the store the staff would help me feel for the correct one, still takes roughly an hour per series for me to find them all.

They made the cheat sheet. It was one of the inserts for the series with numbers written next to them, corresponding with the number stickers (1-16) that they put on the foil packs. Probably by reading bump codes.

For series 13, I felt for a few in store and got what I was after. Then returned a few days later and bought a sealed box. I checked the ones from the box at home using four methods, kept the ones I wanted and sold the rest at cost to other AFOLs. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Thanks for the comments, I haven't tried to buy any individual minifigs, so didn't know the ins and outs of it. I guess if they let the clerks give out the specific codes for them, its OK. Seems kind of silly to make them random and then defeat the purpose that way, I guess its up to the customer, if they want to take their chances on a random purchase or not.
