grum64 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) For Christmas Jake & George (with, I suspect, a little help from Gilly) bought me the 42022 Hot Rod. It was a nice little set which I was pleased to complete in 3 afternoons and an evening, about 16hrs all together which is something of a record for me with a set this size. Sorry about the pics. The light wasn't very good & they were taken with a mobile by a friend. I've got more afternoons free now so can get back to building. I've got a lot of catching up to do as I didn't have much time last year. I've got 60+ sets of which I've probably built 20-25% so have a plenty to do. I will get round to building them but I want to have a go at Jurgen's Ultimate 42009. I've got two 42009's and am in the process of collecting the extra parts I need. I'm going start the 8868 Airtech Claw Rig tomorrow afternoon which will bide the time until I have them. I'm looking forward to building the Airtech. I've been meaning to do it ever since it was recommended to me when I first joined Eurobricks. Edited January 23, 2015 by grum64 Quote

grum64 Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Congratulations on the build time. I'm always inspired by your accomplishment with lego building technique!! Great Job..! Much respect... Congratulations completing the build. Jurgens Ultimate 42009 is a fantastic & rewarding build. Same goes for me. Well done! Thank you all for your very kind comments. I'm chuffed with the build time of the 'Rod, in fact I surprised myself. The build was pretty straight forward really. As usual the 'engine' was a pain to assemble but that's normal for me. However, the award for the most frustrating part of the whole process goes to Step 51 Stage 2. Try as I might I couldn't get the assembled part into that 17 Panel so I tried disassembling it and doing it piece by piece. Anyway, cutting a long story short, Step 51 Step 2 took over 40 minutes! The Airtech awaits... Quote
BusterHaus Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 I wonder if you don't get more satisfaction out of the building process than most of us. We rush through instructions, combine steps, while you spend what seems like an eternity to us on each step. I would compare it to wolfing down a meal instead of enjoying every single bite. Kudos for having the patience to go through with it. Quote

Congratulations, and well done. As for engines, they're always a pain to put together, whether in real life or even in LDD. I wish there were more panels and parts in Light Blue, as that would make a fantastic supercar Edited January 24, 2015 by DrJB Quote

Yes, I get an enormous amount of satisfaction from the whole building process and a good measure of, well, pride I suppose when I see the end result. I guess that's the same for all of us, I don't think we'd build otherwise. Touching on what you say about rushing through instructions. We all build our own way and that's fine & dandy but I've never understood the rush to get a model built. Surely some of the enjoyment is lost when all you focus on is the end result. If you're working to a deadline, say for a competition, that's different but if there's no pressure like that to get a model built why impose it? I know it may sound corny but to me, building is like life. It's about the journey not the destination. Congratulations, and well done. I was a tinkerer by nature and up until my accident raced karts & bikes from a young age so I'd taken a good few engines apart but I don't remember any of them giving me as much grief as the LEGO ones do Edited January 24, 2015 by grum64 Quote
