Whoaa, after seeing your picture JunksyleGio, I remembered that i built 8110 with online instructions, a nightmare. The quality is so poor ...

indeed - but in most cases it helps extracting the picture from the pdf and make it clearer with the shadows/highlights function of photoshop (Elements)... at least this works, when only few images are affected

the 42038 atric truck.

the first like 30 pages are for the mechanism in the body and that is quite hard especically now there is new parts to play with.

And the volvo front end loader I made a few errors but that was probably with my eyes being crappy.

I put the rear differential the wrong way on the loader Of course I discovered this only when testing the completed model.

Yea, but the problem with 8110s instructions was that the whole 2 manual was in poor quality, so ... to make every single image better it would take a while. All in all, I managed to get some scanned pics of the instructions and it was ok after that.

All of them!

Whist this is perfectly true, there are 2 things that challenge/frustrate me more than just about anything else:

1. Assembling engines. The crankshafts are fiddly little buggers to assemble, a nightmare at the best of times. Once assembled, getting all of the pistons into the cylinders at the same time without the crankshaft coming apart can be a right royal pain in the proverbial!

2. Assembling diffs. Getting the 3 bevel gears in place can be particularly difficult but getting them all to stay there while inserting the axles can be 'a tad troublesome'!!!

Grum - regarding the second point, do you find the later ones with recesses to hold the inner gears for you easier to get the axles in, or does it not make a difference?

Hi Bonox

To be honest, the diff housings with the inner recess don't make too much difference. Getting the axles through the bevel gear without dislodging them is the trick.

I've an idea in mind to hopefully make it easier. I'll build it on LDD eventually but my LDD time, an hour or so most evenings, is taken up with the Cobra at the moment.

I'm starting the Air Claw Tech Rig tomorrow afternoon which has 2 diffs, engine and a plethora of pneumatic hoses.

Should be fun!

Wow, that has to be a new low!

EDIT:

For those who think the new instructions are too easy, just throw them in the trash and build from the .pdf instead!

Well, I didn't throw them in the trash, but I did build my 42030 A model from the PDF instructions, I just don't have room for a soft paper booklet on my desk.

It does add quite a bit of a challenge with the black pieces, but I also feel like some of the steps are overly detailed, which I understand is intentional, to reduce changes of people being sorry later.

I'm a few steps into building the 8480 space shuttle which I just got my hands on for Christmas. (This set came out just as I entered the "can't get toys anymore, must get HiFi instead" teenage years, much to my regret!) It's already far more challenging (in a good way) than my recent 42009 acquisition - thoroughly absorbing and enjoyable.

good luck with it mate - it's a thrill when it all works at the end :classic: . I know from my other hobbies that building jigs and other support equipment can make some operations much simpler and reliable.
