I am into Lego mainly because of my grandchildren and currently slowly adding content related to LEGO Wedo to my Robotics for Children, intention is to guide and encourage them, a kind of fun distance learning. By nature, content will be "kids' stuff" but which may also appeal to AFOL. Will be "graduating" to Mindstorms later.

I note that the subject in this forum is LEGO Technic, Mindstorms & Model Team and that Wedo is missing. I read somewhere that kids' membership may be removed and want to seek clarifications if threads involving Lego Wedo here are in danger of being booted out?

A visitor to my Robotics for Children who probably found my blog through a message here at Eurobrick Forum commented she was so glad she found my blog. She has a 6 year old who joined a robotic club but is a bit lost because she doesn't have a foundation in robotics while the other kids are a bit more advanced. She hopes I could write about the basics which is what I intend to do while leaving the more advanced stuff till later.

I have in mind something very basic I want to write about and would want to post about it here but I still haven't heard from a moderator on how they view such threads.

How can I get in touch with a moderator?

New members cannot send PM. You need some more posts to became "Vassal".

I just sent a PM to Blackbird, the Technic Regulator for you.

@sdotcarter, (Diego), thanks for adding so much resources for those learning (and playing) with Lego, particularly WeDo. You must have spent much time in preparing that article.

BTW did you use some advanced software to produce that nice magazine style article?

@MajorAlvega, thanks for PMing Technic Regulator.

@sdotcarter that is some serious stuff you published over at latestt issue of Hispanbric magazine. Thanks. I learned a lot from it. Later I will start going through the earlier issues.

@jim, thanks for the clarifications. Just one more question, at what stage I can start ending my messages with a signature plus a link to Robotics for Children?

@sdotcarter, just drawing my attention to that great source of info is more than enough to deserve my gratitude.

I did my share of experiments with WeDo, like the one below, but in the end I was discouraged by the poor performance of motors running at 5V off the WeDo USB hubs. It kind of felt like poor man's NXT.

Hi pcfw,

Greetings from a fellow malaysian.

I'm also interested to use Wedo to teach my own kindergarten and pre-k kids.

Do you have a proper source for these kits? Where did you get them? Can you maybe PM me on this?

In Malaysia, you can get it from Sasbadi

http://sasbadi.com/product-applied.php

In Singapore, you can get it from Duck Learning

http://www.ducklearning.com/DLhome/index.php

The Lego Wedo software is not free

But you can also use MIT Scratch which is free

@lee82gx tried to messaged you but being new, the system rejected. If the moderators don't object I suppose we can continue dialogue here.

Seems we need 10 posts before being promoted to be able to PM...

Do you know what kind of rough pricing from both sources? I ask because both does not seem to list out the cost.

Looks like their site is under maintenance

Stay Tuned!

Our website is currently under maintenance and will be back soon.

The Singapore ducklearning is up and running but I don't think they deliver to Malaysia address plus they sell only to school. Wait while I search my memory where else you can get. I will be going to the Google Top Contributor Summit in October and I plan to buy Mindstorms when I am there.

try add to cart and I believe the price will be shown

I had my teacher wife call sasbadi:

lego wedo 9580 : RM 850

Single license : RM550

Both a little eye watering for me considering i can get nearly any technic set with gears and already have a mindstorm nxt brick to teach scratch with.

I think the major consideration will be to remain with the wedo software which ia licenced or to go with scratch directly, thereby opening up the possibilities.

What is your experience using both ( with regarda to the audience response, pickup, etc)

Posted (edited)

I have not really started with scratch yet, trying to clear my income tax declaration first

So far have only played with scratch without connecting to physical Wedo

Since yours will be for classes I think you would be better off buying the classroom pack

But as you have found out, Wedo is not cheap considering the limited componets that come with it but it is a start for younger children

Tried PM you again but failed again. Good to keep in touch. I can be contacted at pcfw [at} yahoo {dot } com
