I like it! Simple but effective. Hope to see more modulars from you ;)

Thanks 'SalvoBrick', you might see more depends on money and if I get inspired to do more......at the moment the second storey is coming along nicely.

Though I need more special components I must either buy or dig up out of mountains of parts......that's no joy sometimes !

I have designed digitally some cool new little builds to go upstairs.......keep watching !

I have started on the second storey today, dam I need to find extra sand green bricks.

modular_hardware_store_90.jpg

Now to start my story, the hardware store is run by Elliot Lugs.......who is running it for his uncle, but on top of that he is undercover........as leader of The Unclutchables.

The Unclutchables are trying to get to the bottom of illegal candy production, some people are not paying their sugar taxes hence The Unclutchables are involved.

The upstairs office belongs to Alf Brickstein, talent agent, manager and underworld candy boss......his girl friend actress Candy Studs is along side of him.......Elliot is watching them noting their movements.

As soon as I have finished the exterior work and then office furniture I can update the story.

I'm still designing the stair case for the back entrance to the second storey....but at least I have the decking done.

Note that someone is spying on Alf Brickstein........Elliot is hard at work.

Keep watching !

Candy Studs

Nice store, story and names. Excellent.

Waiting for the office... I'm sure it will be *oh2*

Nice work LT, as always!

Thanks 'monsinjor', I'm only having a little trouble designing the stair case......so the office and a slight change to the hardware store interior is coming soon.

Keep watching !

Wow... That cash register. Consider it stolen! -ehm; "borrowed"!

Stolen eh ?

Better get Ace or Elliot on to it.......you must work for Alf ?

Go for it 'Hoexbroe'......I look forward to seeing my little creation appear in one of your genius creations.

Now I will be trying to finish this one up today and tomorrow (perhaps).......so keep watching !

Sorry I am not able to hand deliver some sand green bricks. ( I have made much stranger LEGO deliveries than this one!)

Love your interior, too! The scales are brilliant!

And the story is a hoot so far!

I remember seeing photos of US hardware stores that looked like this from the 30's. They mostly were replaced by hardware chains such as Ace and TruValue in the 60's. And then those two have been replaced by Home Depot and Lowes' in the 90's and later on.

Very few pure hardware stores exist, and it is difficult finding specialized parts. Hubby orders a lot online these days because he needs things that normal big box stores don't carry. There are just too many parts for a store of any size to stock them like large stainless steel specialty nuts and bolts and screws. Which is a shame.

What you also see now are employees that have no idea of what you are asking for. Most of the old-timers did. It takes forever to look through all the bins at Home Depot or Lowes trying to find a special screw or nail. Being the main go-for/gopher around our house, I spend hours looking for special pieces at these stores and more often than not come up empty handed.

it is great seeing a build of the past which brings warm thoughts to mind of slower, more gentle times. Thank you, LT!

Thanks 'Legogal' and 'eurotrash' for your kind words.

It's sad to see the small hardware stores disappearing.......some still survive but near my home I just have Bunnings warehouses to go to. :sadnew:

Update time.......

Well that's it for this MOC, I have no more cash to make changes. :sadnew:

So I'm not sure if I'll be doing any fresh builds before 2015...... :cry_sad:

Anyway, Brick On everyone !

Now I forgot to give a description of the office elements.......the safe containing Candy Studs best actress award and her silver tiara she wore to the awards night.

On his desk sits a two tone candlestick telephone......his only communications device for his clients......legal and illegal.

The spear sitting in the corner came from his recent but first trip to Africa......partly to do with sourcing new suppliers for his candy empire.

Now I have made the hardware store drawers another row higher, but I guess Elliot needs a ladder in there now to reach them........oh, yeah I had to lower the height of the counter a plate thickness so he could reach the tilt keys !

I'll try and have some more photos up......plus a bit more story later today......keep watching !

Candy catches Alf at his safe......can he talk his way out of this pickle......why does he have some of her favourite things locked in a safe ?

She has been wondering where they went to....

More to come keep watching !

Another image.......Candy is going for a walk towards the PR but Lyle Bricker, a tradesman and undercover Unclutchables agent is also watching her.......just before he meets Elliot.

Keep watching !

Both Unclutchable agents are looking into a chest under the stairs......a stick of chocolate Elliot has found but Candy has walked into the hardware store.....might Lyle and Elliot's covers be blown ?

Since I have started creating a story to go with this modular......it's getting a little cramped so I have decided tonight to start work on another building but this one is only going to be a simple gas filling station......though during my evening walk a bank idea popped into my head.......keep watching !

LT, that heating radiator is mind-blowing! Excellent! Also, the safe and candlestic phone. You're the man LT!

Thanks 'monsinjor' for your kind words, the radiator is based a little around the GG's one but my own simple spin on it.

I'm finalising the office/shop design for the filling station.....I'm thinking outside of the box on this one......keep watching !
