yellost Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 *knight* I am the Knight of the Lego Inquisition sent on a mission to elightened the dark ages of my entourage. The (le)go-between who unleashes the truth provided by the Holy Brick itself. I am the teacher of the untaught and the dispenser of the messianic Building Manifest!!! (Hum, sorry about that, sometimes I get a bit carried away X-D) Just to say that yesterday, I did something I never thought possible among my friends : I CONVERTED MY FLATMATE TO THE JOY OF LEGO!!! I just got my hands on the new MTT set and I was building it when he came to my room (I have student lodgings during the week) and saw me... And then, he started asking questions about which set was nice and such and what was good to get started, so I told him about the Creator sets which I think are great for their pieces and creativity process. And yesterday, he went to the toy shop and bought the black car thing and built it all day long. That was it : he was bitten by the LEGO bug. Which means that now I am finally not alone anymore!!! For 18 years, I was a lonely fan of Lego, building on my own, cast away in my room for noone understood my passion. But I stood firm, I held my ground, never giving into the temptation of falling into the Dark Ages so many experienced. Providing my needs with my own few dimes. And Finally it paid off! Now I have a follower. I can at last spread the Message, even if only one brick at a time! (oops, I slipped again, didn't I...) But gosh, that feels so good *sweet* Quote

I felt the same way for 14 years, when I was able to convert 1 friend to Lego, unfortuntly, he became heathenous and lost faith. ;-) However, when I switched schools I know about 5 people who like Lego. Brainbox Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Which means that now I am finally not alone anymore!!! |-/ The only other Lego fans I know are you lot here. I know that one of my friends used to dabble a bit, and another of my friends still dabbles occasionally. But I think she prefers Playdoh. No, seriously, 16 and still plays with Playdoh. Then again, who am I to judge? She says it has 'calming qualities.' She vents her anger by playing with it. And actually she's right. We tired it when she came over to my house the other week. I still prefer Lego though. ;-) Besides, I kinda like it on my own. It gives me a uniqueness, and I don't have to share bricks. Quote
yellost Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 The only other Lego fans I know are you lot here. same here, I was really thrilled when I discovered this forum. I used to hang on FBTB a lot, before. But EB's got something more to it, I can't quite put my finger on what it is... Maybe it's the general friendly atmosphere... And the good alchemy between the admin. It makes the forum feel cosy. And closer, too *y* Besides, I kinda like it on my own. It gives me a uniqueness, and I don't have to share bricks. Well I don't mind doing it on my own either, far from it. but now I discovered a new thing : collective brainstorming for building ideas and techniques... Of course, it's still on a rather basic level, since he is new to the hobby :-D but I'm sure we may come up with interesting things later. I mean that's what's great with LEGO Clubs, I suppose (here I can only guess, really, since I have never been in any) but they must be a great place to share ideas among fans. Quote

Siegfried Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 For 18 years, I was a lonely fan of Lego, building on my own, cast away in my room for noone understood my passion. But I stood firm, I held my ground, never giving into the temptation of falling into the Dark Ages so many experienced. I wish I did the same. Interestingly I grew disillusioned with Lego when they started printing different heads and giving the pirates guns. For some reason it really bothered me at the time. Luckily I am over it now! I wish you luck in your holy cause. I have tried to convert my wife but have failed. But it doesn't matter; I have kids. My daughter spends hours on the Lego site playing games, not realising that she is slowly being brain-washed. Ha! Triumph will be mine! Quote
iamded Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I have a friend who loves Lego possibly more than I do, unfortunately he lives a 7 hour drive away. We catch up on school holidays though. :-D It is neat. :-D Quote
yellost Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 Well, now I have a friend who lives just downstairs... Unfortunately, summer holidays just started, so I won't see him untill september when school starts again... Oh well, I guess we can't have everything... Quote
