SalvoBrick Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hello everybody! One of the things I really like of the creator sets is that they are excellent parts packs for a good price, and creator buildings are excellent parts sources for a builder like me. I’ve always said that bigger creator houses often contains enough bricks to build even a small modular building (should I repeat the rules and size of what it’s called a “modular bulding”? of course not J ). The first time I’ve seen the latest creator house 31012, I thought it has enough bricks to build a small modular, 16-wide of course (unless you build a ground-floor building). Like every MOCer I have a variable quantity of unused bricks that I use for my MOCs, but this time I’ve accepted a challenge: to build a modular house using only bricks that are contained in the set. It has been done before with other “big” creator houses, but sometimes the results weren’t so good… Of course the result is not the only one possible, but it was done in a lazy afternoon. I think the result is acceptable: it still shows the main features of the original building: a family house with a garage door on the front, a 1st floor with a balcony and a slope roof on the backside there’s a small garden and large windows and those are the leftovers: there could be added more details, but I leave it to those who will eventually follow this idea and would add a modular to their town without spending lot of money more views of the backside and the front. You can even put the garage door on the rear and a shop on the front (I did something different since the majority of my modulars are built that way) I hope this could be useful to someone Now it’s time to rebuild it adding more bricks… (and change the base with a proper baseplate…) Quote
Kristel Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 This looks great! I especially like how you have done the windows on the first floor, with the brick thing. I imagine your modular version would look fantastic in a layout as a row of townhouses. Actually, I think I like it better than the official main model, but then I tend to have a bias towards modulars. Quote
Hobbythom Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hey Salvo, that is a really nice house. Place a few of these next to each other and you have a real nice suburb. Somehow this house screams 'ocean view' to me, must be the balvony on the front of the buidling! Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Cute and cool townhouse 'SalvoBrick'........Brick On always ! Quote
PsyKater Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 It looks great and Hobbythom's idea with several next to each other sounds great as well. Quote
Spud The Viking Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) Awesome build! Maybe a few lined up would look even better as Hobbythom said. Edited August 9, 2013 by Spud The Viking Quote
jtr Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 this is a really great idea . . . i might do the same this afternoon. it would be fantastic if TLG could release 31012 (and other creator houses) in different colour variants - i'd definatley buy multiples of the same set Quote
SalvoBrick Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) Aaand finally, adding some more bricks, the -maybe- final version of the modular: The main features and shape are still the same, for the roof I've used the slopes from the log cabin A better view the backside is almost the same, with a fenced garden Detail of the balcony. The architecture style reminds me the one used in the '30s in some villas and small houses. Hope you like Edited August 11, 2013 by SalvoBrick Quote
Kristel Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 The changes you've made look great! I especially like the new overhanging balcony and the trim above the front door, both of which add more depth to the facade. I was considering blogging the original version of this, but it's now a no-brainer. Quote
Hobbythom Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I think it looks good enough to be an official set! Great work, like the additions you made! Quote
F0NIX Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 That is really nice! But I would have turned the 1st floor around so the balcony was in the back towards the garden. Well, if you build many of those you can vary and have some with the balcony this way and some with the balcony the other way. And as the others say, it would be nice with a lot of those building in a street :) Do you plan to build this in other colors too? Quote
eurotrash Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 The more steeply pitched roof is a great addition and I think the final version would be a fantastic complement to anyone's town. Thanks for sharing it with us! Quote
jimmynick Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Very nice, SalvoBrick! I really like your modification to make the balcony hang over the garage door - I think that change (along with the dormers) really improve on the older building. It looks great, and I'm sure it'll make a fine addition to your town! Quote

Look carefully the pictures and you'll need no instructions (seriously, I usually don't make instrutions of my MOCs, and this one in particular has been modified 3 or 4 times since then...) Quote
