After I posted my last review on 8409 Spider Monkey, I found out that a lot of people were looking forward to this new theme, but most of the feedback were not really favorable to this new product line, to be fair and trying to take a second look, I opened the second box of Ben 10 set I purchased: 8519 Big Chill.



Among the Lego Ben 10 sets I saw, Spider Monkey and Big Chill look more interesting because the spider monkey has six limbs, and Big Chill has a pair of wings, the other sets looks simple and feel like containing only a subset of the two I chosen.

By the way, the head is actually composed of two parts (just remove the screw)

The building process is again, too simple, so I spent time in playing with it by making a few wierd postures.

I must say again that the flexibility of this design provides is really impressive, but for me, there are other things to think about beyond enjoy playing with this...toy.

Huh, it looks almost identical to the last ben 10 set you reviewed.

I guess the flexibility is nice, but seriously, they look so similar, it's like bionicle all over again.

Nice pics though, good review, I'm just not much of a fan I guess.

I MIGHT get him along with Swampfire. Once again, the parts look fantastic. As I've already stated, price to piece is bullsh*t in my opinion, so I'm not affected by the price too much.

The parts just don't impress me enough to remotely justify the high cost. Unlike what their cost suggests, they are not really anything extraordinary or much better than what we have in bionicle or hero factory. Seriously, these things would be fine for 66% of the cost. But with the current price it is a very bad purchase.

I think that in the last review the box suggested a combiner model and if I remember correctly this is one of the two that can get combined with spider monkey. If you plan buying another ben 10 set try getting the one that's left to have the combiner.

The models are not any more flexible than what we've seen in bionicle since 2006.

Today I get my Big Chill (Called Ziąb in Poland like in our dubbed version. Ziąb means cool.) and I think Its great thing for Lego and Ben 10 fans (like me :P ).
I am just sad this set is not show acurate... Antenas missing, no pattern on wings, he have 4 fingers not three...

But even with those flaws it gives you something that you can't do with normal Ben10 toys- Mix them with other Lego and bionicles making Mega Alien!
Even I am 20 now I spend almost whole day Playing with him xD

I built Ben10 sets at Lego World in Copenhagen this weekend, but more importantly disassembled maybe 1500 sets put together by children of all ages. The AFOL kept telling me that it's not real Lego, as the Ben10 display and building table was just besides the AFOL display. But I kept reminding them to look at how the kids loved to build them.

I gave my nephew Big Chill this friday, and at 4 years he struggle to build with System Lego. He always ask me for help and end up doing simple stuff like putting tires on the wheels etc.
But with Big Chill he may have experienced his first true pride of creation. He did it with only a few hints from me, and we did not open the building instructions.

I'd like to see a little less "blah, it's just Bionicle again" and "it's too kiddie!" in these topics. These sets are clearly aimed at a specific audience and if that isn't you, maybe you don't need to try to drag it down with negative comments. No, no maybe, you need to stop.

For those who don't like Bionicle, do you go in that forum and poop in every topic with "I don't like Bionicle"? If you don't like Bionicle or Bionicle style parts, avoid it, the world doesn't need to revolve around what you like.

For those who don't like the License, do you love every other License and theme, or do you make the same negative comments in all of their topics? Of course you don't, so don't do it here.

There seems to be a silly idea that it's cool to act like you're too old or too mature or too whatever for these sets. That immaturity alone tends to discredit you, but at the same time you might want to think about it in context: most sets are technically "too young" for you. Should you be ridiculed for liking them? That's how we end up in dark ages and it sucks. Stop contributing to that.

Ben-10 is a license that will appeal primarily to a young audience, and from everything I've seen and heard, that group loves these sets which means happy kids and a profit for TLG. In time, the fans may move on to regular Bionicle or even System, and it will be because of sets like this, the same way some of you might have come from Duplo or Fabuland.

Welcome the exposure of a new generation to LEGO and stop hating on things just because TLG didn't make something for you instead. They make plenty of themes for you to enjoy (or why are you here?), they don't all need to be for you.

I got Big Chill (and recently Spidermonkey) for half of the original price (7€ instead of 14€).

While I don't know much about Ben 10 (I watched only one episode, and I think I probably would have liked the series at a younger age), I like the design of the pieces. The torso with all the ball joints is also pretty neat.

However, it's kinda hard to put greeble on the limbs, and their original price was definitely to expensive.

I also don't like the poseability of their feet.

And to say some things especially about Big Chill: His wings and his colours are pretty neat, but I really don't understand why his head piece isn't attached to the joint piece in the same way as Spidermonkey's - Chill can't look upwards unless you modify it with a screw driver.

So anyway, for seven bucks, Big Chill is a good parts buy.
