Pirates vs. Historic Themes

Recommended Posts

Hey, so I was wondering, why is it that Pirates doesn't get lumped under Historic themes on the forum? I know that Pirates and Castle are among the classic LEGO themes, but the grouping in these forums seems a bit arbitrary. Ninja and Western count as Historic, even though they're much closer in time to Pirates than they are to Castle. I could understand if the only things allowed in this forum were directly pirate related, but we also see a lot people posting about the Napoleonic Wars, the War of 1812, etc etc. It would also be something if everything were naval related, but the forum also features MOCs of armies and the Battle of Waterloo (admittedly, I haven't seen those in a while, but I think this would still be the place for it). Don't get me wrong, I love seeing all of it, I'm just not sure why the lines were drawn the way they were.

Obviously this isn't a huge deal practically speaking, as everything seems to be working fine the way it is. That being said, I do feel like having the two forums more obviously linked might encourage some of the builders in the Historical subforum to maybe branch out and add more variety to this one, with Chinese junks or East Asian pirates, and vice versa, as a lot of the builders here are obviously very talented at building cities and fortifications. I know that there's already a level of cross pollination, so to speak, of builders between the forums, so I am possibly being naive, but I think it's worth thinking about.

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to discuss this.

Even if it is a fairly good question? I understand that there does tend to be a clear separation between Pirate / Ship builders and Castle builders. But some more generalized Historical cross posting might be interesting.

The LEGO Pirates Forum was originally part of the LEGO Historic Themes Forum but grew to a size which warranted a forum of its own. At one point in time it had the most replies of any of the Eurobricks Forums.

Currently the publically accessible LEGO Pirates Forum has 105,312 replies versus the LEGO History Themes Forum's 132,353 replies.

Including all the hidden sub-forums the LEGO Pirates Forum has a total of 127,996 replies, so all the pirate themes equate to almost the same number of replies as all the history themes combined.

Also there is some synergy with the Classic-Pirates.com blog and the LEGO Pirates Forum provides a platform for more indepth discussion of the content posted on the blog.
