2017 City Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Jungle seems to be even worse than the other sets. I count 4 vehicles that are the size of small quadbikes and seem to have little definite purpose. Real let down.

    Ideas for new City sets

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is at least one (maybe two) Technic or Model Team racing truck from the 90s. Every single permutation of racing vehicle has seemingly been done in minifigure scale over the years.
  3. Most of the stores near me have changed in the last 5 years so now the Lego is positioned directly in the view of the cameras and is open to main walking passages, rather than being hidden down aisles where people can't see. Back in the dark days it wasn't uncommon to see open sets or boxes beaten up so someone could probably claim them on discount.

2017 City Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I was underwhelmed by the Volcano line tbh, they really missed a trick making the surroundings have a slight Hawaiian feel. These sets really need more scenery and not just a dozen more whacky vehicles. JANGBRICKS had a video showing off all the volcano sets and it looked comical having so many vehicles with such a small quantity of actual worldbuilding supplied by the sets themselves. Scuba had a good quantity of both, Arctic understandably is more dependent on vehicles due to the barren nature of polar lands, but the Jungle sets should have at least one large brick-built tree in them. Jungles are meant to be dense and not look like a suburban park with a few exotic animals and 10 large vehicles parked in it. Adventurers wasn't afraid to have much smaller vehicles and more buildings and context, and it was better for it.

Have to agree. Maybe Danish beaches look like that with 2 fully clothed sunbathers? What I would expect out of a beach set is more like the Paradisa sets, except now Lego can apply more varied shirtless and bikini prints alongside the classic yellow legs + colored trunks. The saving grace is the abundance of animals and accessories.
  6. It was actually 32.5% if you combined it with a 10% off coupon code. Which I didn't find out until after.

Cheapest way to obtain parts for MOCs?

I'm a bit hesitant to sell off minifigures because that cuts the resale value pretty low. Modulars on sale are far below their bricklink market price per part, and I guess regular plates and bricks can be bought cheaply via a lego store.

    The Brick separator Virus

That's pretty unfair on new users though. The first one I'd ever seen was in a Parisian modular. One per modular or large set is totally fair, otherwise people who bought a large set worth hundreds of dollars will be expected to source their own or use a knife or teeth to damage hundreds of dollars worth of Lego.

    Modular buildings question, how many?

Just looking at the used prices on eBay, PR may have a few more years in it because people seem to like it almost as much as Green Grocer. Pet Shop had a 5 year run and PR started in 2014. Palace Cinema seems to be at a constant discount.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Market Street is somewhat underwhelming from my perspective. The size is impressive but the look is out of place alongside the others that typically use the 2x2 and 2x3 windows with transparent glass panels and not the old 4x4 square opening windows. It looks like an earlier Creator set from the front and lacks the intricacy of future sets, plus the central staircase makes it poor for furnishing.

    Modular buildings question, how many?

Parisian Restaurant and Palace Cinema are the next to be retired. DO and BB are still on the Assembly Square box so expect both have a few more years in them. The size of AS may mean it departs earlier like Town Hall did.

Lego 10255 XXL Assembly Square MOD

I just realized you have three of them. Are you planning on building a single large "florist" standalone modular?

What will you do with the two florists?

Looks like you get a "Fun at the Beach" minifigure set, a bus, a transporter truck with little quadbikes and some Elves thing.

    [Review] 10255 Assembly Square

I understand what you mean. The sets started becoming more focused on interior detailing after PR, and DO was particularly cartoon-like. CC was obviously a display model with no interior to speak of. Lego has obviously realized that anyone who wanted significantly larger buildings was going to buy another set anyway, as was intended from the start. I think the two finest modulars are the GG and PR and Lego really should find a happy medium between those two styles. Personally I think the tower building in AS could have done with being larger and more ornate and the florist building removed all together. I agree that the Town Hall probably had the best use of space of any modular, as the others tend to all be too cramped front-to-back; the florist is perhaps the most egregious example from the modular line so far. However you must remember Town Hall was retired early for reasons speculated to be poor sales, so obviously Lego felt they needed to adjust the market away from that style. I await to see if there is a baulking at the price for AS (which is similarly more expensive than other modulars) and Lego returns to the earlier style of larger modular
