The global energy transition is starting to pick up steam. Offshore wind farms are being rolled out in shallow seas across the world. Because fishing within wind farms is often restricted or prohibited, these farms have the potential to become true wildlife sanctuaries. How will marine life develop and colonize the new underwater landscape, formed by the windturbines? Only one way to find out: science! Wind farm maintenance & research station The research station sits on a concrete caisson pillar, and is integrated into a windturbine. It features a general viewing platform, a drone landing pad and a larger platform with crane, for loading supplies and equipment onto or off the station. The station can only accommodate two crew members (researchers or technicians) at most and is not permanently operated. A researcher has fallen into the river in LEGO city lowered the water sampling device on the platform. From it she will collect the sample and analyse it on-site, for physical-chemical parameters, algae content, and possible pollutants. --- I hope you enjoyed this little bit of backstory. I built this as an entry to a Vestas Facebook challenge, where the premise was to create a creative windturbine with LEGO or other materials. I had been wanting to step into modern/industrial/futurism creations for a while already, so this was a fun excuse to get my feet wet. The turbine and crane can turn, the turbine blades spin smoothly and the building has an interior, as you can see below: Thanks for looking! C&C always appreciated!
