After having finished the work on the Balrog Book Nook (MOC-223824) I thought of "utilizing" this style for another MOC - and what would suit better than the "Destruction of the Ring" ? I wanted to stay movie accurate with this, but that is easier said than done. There is never a shot where you see the whole Crack of Doom without any smoke. At least there are some good shots of the bridge and the architecture directly above the bridge. But a lot of the other things are quite difficult to see. Nevertheless I am really satisfied with the final result of this MOC. Just like the Balrog this should also get illuminated - the socket has room for some effects board and is built using transparent plates and tiles. So get some slow "pulse effects" and let that lava glow ;-) As I aimed for the scene when Frodo was hanging from the cliff and Sam tried to reach him, the proper quote on the 2x6 tile probably would be: "Don't you let go... Don't let go..." The MOC is available on rebrickable. -
Here's probably my only entry for Category A: The Missing Set. I chose to do Mount Doom. I'm not really sure why LEGO never did this scene, seeing how it is the most important of the movie. This comes three play features, all coinciding with the movie, as are the minifigure's outfits: Sam's dirty, and without all the equipment printed on his actual, LEGO-made torso, and Frodo's dirty and torn. Setname: 79022 Mount Doom Parts: 201 Minifigures: 3 Price: $24.99 The play features, like a handle for Frodo to hold onto. A lever, that if you pull... ...this will happen. And finally, a launcher that fires, well... fire. ;)

After reaching Round 4 of mocpages MELO (may you remember my "last march of treebeard") my new category was "Mount Doom". You probably saw the fantastic entry of my opponent matthew oh. The judges already made their decision and gave me the privilege of marching in round 5, the semi finals. It was a very tough round against matthew and I want to pay tribute to his great entries.
