I think I have come out of the dark age! This was prompted by buying Lego sets for my 11 year old daughter Vicky, after seeing her enjoy my old lego that was stashed at 'Grannys'. She loved it, and building with my daughter is immensely pleasurable and has rekindled my interest in lego.
I now have a desire for a good sized lego railway by adding to the 12V 7725 set that I had when I was young, as it seems a good way of combining an interest in trains, lego, and more importantly quality time with my daughter!
We have just finished building the Horizon Express - she built the second car all by herself with only the occasional lego 'explosion' whilst pushing a little too hard in the wrong direction!
Being away from lego for around 30 years - I think the 7725 was the last lego I got - it is going to take a long long time to catch up on all the changes!
Although I have big ambitions, I am determined to get the best value I can, To this end I am extending the 12V system with second hand track, and have converted the Horizon Express accordingly, not by substituting a 12V motor as they are somewhat expensive second hand, but by adding pick ups to a much cheaper PF motor, which seems to work very well - just needs less throttle to achieve the same speed.
I have also picked up an Emerald Night set dirt cheap too, which I think I may be able to motorize with my old black 12V technic motor + adding 12V pick ups too.
So it looks like there are a lot of fun times ahead!
Regards,
Ian.
