The origins of this event are lost to the mists of time. Some say it hearkens back to a time when Kaliphlin was a green and fertile land, dotted with tranquil lakes of crystal purity where the ornamental pleasure barges of the rich flocked like colourful birds, Others say it was started last year by a bunch of nouveau riche college kids looking to invent a heritage to disguise their unsavoury origins. But none dispute that this is the pre-eminent endurance challenge in Kaliphlin. 12 teams, carrying boats that represent the creatures of the zodiac, will race across the 12 stages from Mpya Stedor. The teams set off on Midwinter's Eve and the winning team will cross the finish line in Ras-el-Ahken in time for the biggest New Year's Eve party in Kaliphlin. Here, our artists depicts the second checkpoint of the first stage. The pandas hold a slender lead over the yellow dragons. But who will lead at the end of the day?
