Well if you want a very slow movement have you thought about using long gear racks, similar to the mechanism used to lift the container on the back of the 8479 barcode truck, but much beefier obviously. This method would be much more efficient than LAs and you could have a much longer reach.

Hi all! I have recently purchaced an 8880 from bricklink. It is used but when it arrived I was amazed by the excellent condition of parts, box and instructions. Just one thing tho, the little transparant tray containing the "special parts" in the set is missing. So if anyone has one that they would not mind selling I would be happy to pay for shipping and whatever you think it's worth (as long as it's not something silly ) I also purchased a second hand 8082 (after seeing blakbirds awesome review on technicopedia) and it's special parts tray is also missing (not sure if it had one if i'm honest, it looks like it did) so, again, if anyone has one to sell let me know. I have around 20 of these... http://www.stanleyworks.co.uk/Tool+Storage...ObjectID=92-749 These are great as each compartment is it's own separate box that you can lift out and tip into a bigger box if you need to without disturbing the other compartments. It works out expensive, but when compared to the value of the lego contained within them it's quite reasonable I think.

For what it's worth, out of over 100 technic sets only one had missing pieces. When I say missing pieces I mean an entire polybag was missing. But Legos consumer services were very happy to help no problems whatsoever.

I like that one to for it's sequential gearbox.

They are quite strong but by the looks of it, there is alot of "leverage" working against them.

I have noticed some 1/2 long technic bushes had split after a long time being on an axle, and also the end of some thin lift arms had split, I tend not to have my sets/MOCs built for long periods now, and kept out of sunlight when they are built.

Well that small click would indicate there is power to the motors but to be sure, have you checked the wires and battery boxes on another motor that you know works? Have you checked that the electrical connections on the back of the motors are clean and free of corrosion? If so then i'm sorry to inform you that those mini-motors were notoriously unreliable. It is a surprise that none of them work, but not a big surprise. I have three, one went missing, one just stopped working and the other is in a sealed 8480.

The flex system was pretty awesome, wonder why they don't use that anymore? For me, a universal set has to have at least 3 or 4 models to qualify as being a universal set but they were different in ways other than just offering more that two sets to build from, so I don't think they were using up other ideas for other sets. I find that regular technic sets usually have roughtly equal emphasis on form and function, whilst the universal sets offered more emphasis on function than on form. They didn't usually look as aesthetically pleasing but alot of the smaller universal sets had TONS of gears and levers and sometimes motors for their size. I wonder if todays target demographic is too pre-occupide with the false sence of "cool" that the more streamedlined sets give to be interested in a proper universal set.

That's a great MOC their friend but, if your asking if i'de spend my own money on it, sorry I wouldn't buy it. I would prefere it if the budget of a set is spent on the realistic reproduction of real life mechanisms and not turning them into toys for children only by making them "RC" with PF running riot. I know adults have RC toys but their motors are usually hyper powerful making there cars go 60mph+ or run on nitro or can actually fly. Still it looks like fun to play with

Even when they do say no, that doesn't really mean no. I'm sure I remember someone from lego saying they would never release a set bigger than (insert set hear), a couple of years later they did.

Brilliant MOC you got there, and yes I suppose it is pretty lame. I was quite hesitant to submit one of my old MOCs and wasn't even sure it was allowed but whatever, you don't try you don't get!

Thanks, I didn't have the power puller set, it had just come out at the time and Christmas was some months away so I called Lego and they sold me 4 wheels for £13. YEY!

Well I really don't have much lego building time this month so I submitted an old MOC from pretty much childhood. I doesn't stand much chance but it fits the criterea I give you, the blue falcon http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=8627 Features include: Motorised via 2 old style 9v motors Heavy duty 5f+1r gearbox (can handle MASSIVE amounts of tourque). It is also quite efficient meaning it's internal friction doesn't use up much power from the motors. 4 wheel drive v8 engine Central differential (no axle differentials for improved off-roading!) Front and rear suspention via live axles Steering operated via drivers steering wheel can drive over lunch boxes and 8880 supercars (just!) in first and second gear reasonable speed in top gear Would love to see others people proper attemps at this challenge

The worst combiniation of parts I know of to take apart that was used in a set was this: http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32017 pressed onto this piece: http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32124 as found here: http://www.peeron.com/scans/8466-1/81 Anybody found a good way of separating these pieces without using metal tools or damaging them?

Alternatively you could replace the LA with pneumatics and use the M-motor to power 2,3 or 4 motor pumps. The results are far more satisfying I find, especially if you can fit all 4 pumps in!

I was not aware of that particular interview, thankyou for posting that. I am aware that to produce a new part is no small thing at all and it costs alot of money for many reasons. But I wonder how much it would cost to produce a UCS technic set. With all that set/packaging/instruction design and legal stuff. That would be a huge cost to justify. At least with new parts that AFOLs have been wanting, they could probably justify them soley by their uses in other sets across the whole technic range. Alas, I am but a mere mortal, on the outside, looking in. Oooooh no, I wouldn't want the next supercar to be like a racers set anyway. The racers sets are great (Crowkillers lambourguini is fabulous, with its four wheel drive possibly better that the official racers sets!) but in a similar way to model team, I don't see the ferrari races as technic sets at all. It should have an interesting new gearbox and be bigger and have all round independent suspention and hopefully 4 wheel drive and motorised but not necasseryly RC and not red!!!!!!
