Not to be a grinch, but your plan is a bit far fetched. Shipping MOCs across the states or overseas without negative repercussions is null at best. What if upon return the MOCcer discovered that a few red coats are missing? ;-) Is that part of the risk involved? And if you aren't insuring MOCs then I doubt a lot of people will risk their creations just to say they boosted the pirate morale at Brickfest. If you do, you're crazy. ;-) In my eyes a superior plan would be to provide instructions for a MOC you desire to be displayed at Brickfest. Whoever has the pieces and also plans to visit the event could build the MOC and credit the designer and all that rift raft. In fact this could even spawn competitions... A pirate fan posts his available inventory and challenges everyone to transform the pieces into a MOC. Then he decides which one he prefers and builds it, and so on. If nothing works out, all we really can do is encourage pirate fans attending Brickfest to build something and help represent the Pirate Community in the process. I'm glad that you brought this subject up, though, JackDagger. The pirate community can always benefit from some thorough discussion and debate. I am curious about your progress. What's the consensus regarding ship class as dictated by cannon number, eh? i agree with you that people would have to put full trust in me (or someone else) to make it work. But i'm not the kind of person to do that. Now i know your thinking yeah right that's easy to say in a forum. But i'm not. I think there might be a way things could be worked out so that everyone who wanted to participate could. I was also thinking that it would be nce if Pirates got there own moonbase module thing going. I saw that and instantly saw why it was succesfull. It gets people motivated and brings them together. anyway just some thoughts

Most likely it will be around the same time next year mid-Aug in Washington D.C. (or just outside of it). any other questions?
-
Well i think we're getting a little off the orginal topic. would anyone be willing next year to coordinate with me so that we could get a bigger showing at next years brickfest?
-
don't get me wrong joe cool, i'm not saying you MOC is lame at all, i was saying that the lack of pirates in general was lame. i remeber your MOC and think i may have takin a picture of it myself. I like the dock and island a lot.

It was great besides the lack of Pirate MOCs. this was my first year going and i was amazed at some things. So of the castles were just huge. It's hard to get a sense of scale when you look at a MOC on the internet. But when you see it in real life it's really impressive. My only complaint is that there were way to many kids! I know LEGO is a toy and all but they were all over the place, and most were unbehaved! I saw kids touching MOCs, playing with them, taking pieces off them it was crazy. They were also screaming and running nilly-willy all over, after awhile i got very tired of it. The moonbase was huge, bigger than i could have imagined. It makes me want to figure out a similiar project for Pirates. Maybe like a port city project or something.

Just got back from Brickfest saw all the sights and was amazed. It didn't dawn on me though until after i left that there were virtually no pirate MOCs displayed. I think i remember two ships maybe? Anyway i found myself very disappointed afterwards and thought that next year there has to be a way to solve this. I came up with a crazy plan the includes whoever wants to display at brickfest but can't make it mailing me their MOCs and i will take them to Brickfest to display for them. i realize that some people would be very wary of sending me there LEGOS but i want to see Pirates represented at brickfest more than i want a bunch of other people's LEGOS. anyway it's a year away so there's plenty of time to hash things out i was jsut wondering if anyone would be interested in doing that.

Thats going to be a hard sell... most people who have an SES seem to have a BSB already.... just taking a tally from people here. Also their values are different. SES can go for alot more then BSB (because BSB was rereleased they are much more common, but before the rerelease they were still more expensive) So to entice someone into this trade you may need to add things in.... either money or other lego. Good luck on the trade. well i have ways to sweetin the deal if anyone is bitin. I have lots of LEGO and lots of pirate LEGO. I realize that it wouldn't be a fair trade, one for one but i have other things, ie. a renegade runner, other small ships, lots of pirates, imperials whatever and of course the language we all understand money, that i might be willing to part with for the SES. If anyone is intersested let me know.

well i can say that i'm not sure it's complete but before a trade i would build it and any missing pieces i would get off bricklink. So it would be in complete condition. The sails are in great condition, it looks like they've never been used. I have a box but it's a little worse for wear. I also have instructions for it to. But before anything i would make sure it was complete.

I have two black seas barricuda's and want a skulls eye schooner. Not sure if they equal out value wise but i might consider trading a BSB for a SES if anyone was interested.

i think there can be to much fanatasy, imagine a Pirates system that came with the dragons, rock people, time travelers, wizards, and lord knows what else. i think there's a limit to the amount of fantasy that can be used in a genre. for example, you often don't see aliens in a medeval setting, or wizards in a space setting. Now that's not to say that it can't be done well, i think star wars is a good example here. But generally there are things that are intrinsic to a specific genre.

The many books on the subject such as, "A General History of the Pyrates by Daniel Defoe" Where did you buy "A General History of the Pyrates by Daniel Defoe" i can't believe someone is actually selling this book and attributing it to daniel defoe. It was proven a few years ago that the author wasn't defoe

Hey, I was so inspired by Mr. Tiber's 18 pounder that i made a few of my own on Designer. Then I got to thinking it would be cool if we all posted some small cannon MOCs in one thread to create a kind of reference so we could use, become inspired by, or any other thing. So enough gabbin here they are. Mr. Tiber's 18 Pounder A small Deck gun made by me and a Swivel Gun also made by me.

Skaforhire i had a similiar problem once where they didn't accept paypal account that weren't confirmed so i think i contacted the seller and either wrote them a check or sent them a money order. another thing you might want to try is contacting ebay and see if they can help resolve it for you.

Interest in a Universal Pirates Story Setting?
JackDagger replied to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn's topic in LEGO Pirates
I've been interested in this idea since it was first posted. I have a few questions i'd like to add 1. are players actually going to have to have the ships and MOCs? 2. if players are going to be required to have the ships what about forts and islands? will we have to have those as well? 3. How would it work a play be email thing, through treads here in thus forum, or a seprate and new website? -
Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
JackDagger replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
oh right what was i thinking. Just think of all the cool paranormal sets they could make without even ripping off PotC. There could be a bermuda triangle set full of wrecked ships i've always had a ship in mind to make but haven't gotten around to it yet and its a wide hulled ship with a bridge to a narrow hulled ship making it like a catamaran ship. I'm sure with enough vision it could be made to look at least halfway decent definity a ship full of ghosts (i still like the glow in the dark sheet men) it would just be nice, regardless of what comes out, to see system pirates on the shelf again -
Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
JackDagger replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
i totally agree with ghoulrealm here, I also like the three faction idea but i would prefer if one of the faction was of the more paranormal nature. Be it damned, undead, or whatever sailors, that way for those who are seaking a more realistic line can just buy two of the factions another thing i was thinking about is if lego just continued with the pirate theme and used pirates, imperials, and introduced another paranormal faction there. one thing i always wondered was why lego never released an imperial ship using the wide hull? or am i wrong on this one. -
Hey that 18 pounder looks great and at 2.97 direct from lego it's cheaper than most cannons on bricklink. Your ship is coming along great as well look's like it will be something to be reckoned with! Keep it up

Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
JackDagger replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
I love the idea of incorporating fantasy into the the Pirate theme. I think the kraken, ghost ship all of that stuff is great when PotC does it because they loosely (very loosely) base it off things. The flying dutchman isn't something they just made up, its a real legend that they embellished. The kraken sn't made up either and i love it, one of my fondest memories is of the scene in disney's 20,000 leagues under the sea with the giant squid. Also IMO we're dealing with little blocky men here, how historically accurate do we need to be? If i really wanted that i would be pushing around little metal men that i painted worried about a bulky and hard to interpret rules system. But there is a point in which one could go over board, and i think that's when fantasy that doesn't fit the pirates era is introduced, like wizards, orcs, dragons, you know the stuff that should be on another website -
Yeah i live in philadelphia so i figure i could just drive down and check it out, i've never been so i thought why not.

So i was just wondering who from this forum is going to be in attendance at brickfest in aug.? I'm going but i think i'll only be there on saturday for a few hours, mainley to buy stuff and look around. I know i'm pretty new to this forum and haven't posted any MOCs but i hope to by then and it might be cool to meet osme of the other forum members there. If there's enough people going maybe we could all get organized to do something, not sure what maybe a table or just some t-shirts or something.

No torso designs that can be adhered to mini-figs. I actually have gotten some of saber scorpions stickers in the past just to see them with my own eyes and they're not to bad. That little kid has some talent.
