Not sure if anyone still needs the answer to this, but I just solved this problem. I had a motorcycle helmet wedged tight in a green garbage can. Tried tape, to suck it out, etc. The simple answer is to use an Exacto knife which you can slide in down the side, and with gentle pressure, and keeping the can upside down, you can coax the helmet out without damaging it.
