MOC Review: Area 51-Cell 1- Alien Encounters
Asuka replied to VBBN's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Very nicely done, it just looks like something straight from a cool FPS, well fitting for some exciting action (with, um, a little more perilious Aliens that would be.... )! -
A very original work, these Wookiee speeders look cool, that scorpion tailed turbolaser´s pretty neat and I especially like that nice HADT.
-
A very neat scenery with a nice landscaping, although the mix of horizontal and vertical elements on that cliff looks a little strange, somehow, although it´s pretty smart, too.

A very cool work, beautiful!
-
A smooth and neat looking car indeed, nicely done!

Review - Agents 8635 Mobile Command Center
Asuka replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thank you for that brilliant review, svelte_corps. The Agents line.... well, congrats, TLC! It´s an exceptional well done theme, and everything looks almost perfect straight from the start. Marvelous characters, detailed designed sets with splendid parts, an amazing neat amount of storytelling and an overall excellent play value. It almost looks, although this is still a cool set for kids, like they really listened to most of the complaints made by AFOLs over the last years.... and I just think that this truckload of fun here´s for sure already one of the best play sets ever released by LEGO, magnificent in conception and execution. I even don´t mind those intimidating studless technic beams, they´re used fairly well and opposite to many other recent vehicles it seems like the though job´s done by beams with studs anyways. And the usual cost saving use of bigger '<insert that tiresome argument>' parts works like a charm too, similar to that fine CoastGuard helicopter.... what a way to go indeed! And - what´s that...? There even isn´t some annoying shooter thingy hidden in front of that truck, no.... brick built rockets, yeah! EDIT: Perhaps, and although even understandable to some degree and almost ducky, it´s a bit questionable if the use of some hoses instead that .45 automatic or similar stuff´s really an erudite approach to that coyly thematic of violence in LEGO toys. However, surprisingly I think I like those hose guns, in that case. I guess I´m growing old. -
I noticed the difference, that´s, beside the black dress, why I think he looks more realistic.... the other ones wear their shaken at least in a rather uncomfortable way.... And I didn´t vote at all, WhiteFang.... I meant that I only would know what to vote if you would´ve asked for the least favorite....

Happy Birthday and vintage pleasures on!
-
I guess it should work with MFs.... Hmm.... I think it´s Count Citrus....
-
Hey, what´s that? A gold mine for dark blue plates.... very nice, and a cool brick builded beetle indeed! Thanks, legoman and whung!

A fine scenery, I wonder who´ll win in the end.... a pretty though struggle of icons indeed....

Review: 7886 Batman - The Batcycle: Harley Quinn's Hammer Truck
Asuka replied to Deinonychus's topic in LEGO Licensed
A very nice review, thanks Deinonychus. That Batcycle looks pretty neat.... like a Hells Bats Angels version of that tumbler, a really nifty idea. The truck looks simply sweet, a smooth design and, this time, TLC´s new habit of vehicle oversizing just works very fine. A wonderful and very comical vehicle indeed! And Harley.... oh my, this bill I´ll have to pay for myself.... Yeah.... this starts to become a little annoying. These things simply don´t work in a that much satisfying way.... when I was a child all I needed to play with my MFs were some old fashioned Classic Space blasters.... zoom zoom, zzzaaap.... honestly, do they really think that this tiny rockets deliver that much fun?? Just imagine on! -
Haggison castle, huh...? We know how you look like....
-
A very nice work.... the head looks very good, but perhaps the wingspan in flight should be a little larger, compared to the length of the body, and maybe a single round plate and plate with clip doesn´t work that good too, considering the really impressive appearance of its talons....
-
A very interesting technique, and your facade example looks really beautiful!
-
A neat scenery and a simple yet pretty effective job with the DH-17. Hmm.... according to Wookieepedia the optimum range of that blaster´s thirty meters, I wonder why that movie model needs such a pretty big scope....
-
A very good rendering of that movie scene, and your Mola Ram looks very fine, with an indeed marvelous head gear. That Thugee looks great, too!
-
Yep, much better indeed, a cool work.

Of course it´s a money issue.... my question was more rhetorical. But I still don´t like how they sacrifice inherent set design on the altar of cost saving efforts. To be even more correct, I don´t understand why they try to make extraordinary cool looking sets with a pretty weak 'inner life'. Yeah, they want to sell sets with something that looks exciting on the box art, but.... LEGO was (and fortunately, is, with many recent sets too) always more than just an impressive spaceship or S.F. tank vehicle.... it´s the sum of the set itself and its parts and what you can do with it that makes out the full fun of it. The best thing you can do with a new set, beside some UCS sets perhaps, is to MOD the set according to your own likings. This is where 'just imagine' begins, and how kids start to learn how to MOC, at least it was like that to me.... Individualizing official sets, and looking on some cool alternative models gave me my first ideas and helped my imagination and skills to grow, back in these days when I was a wee child. Books, movies and t.v. series as a source of inspiration just came a little later.... I can see many people complaining about how to make the alternative models, yes, but just stop using them on the box art´s a very poor solution and a dangerous one too, at least in long terms. Of course I know that you know all these things too, Sinner. I just think it´s a shame, and a risk too, because TLC´s perhaps sacrificing more than they might know by yet.... Building with bricks is the main attraction of LEGO, not just some cool crafts to play around with.... others can do this too and maybe better than TLC. If the kids of today ever forget about the fascination of being imaginative, TLC´ll only lose in the end.

Ant Attack! (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Diorama)
Asuka replied to SirNadroj's topic in LEGO Licensed
A marvelous scenery, very neat.... with an interesting tree design and a pretty cool jeep. Impressive! -
A pretty cool work! Classic entertainment for MFs on!
-
A pretty though one.... the black one looks very realistic, the grey one´s beautiful, the red one looks plain cool and of course it´s always splendid to have a strong female character.... I guess the only thing I could vote for´s that the green one´s my least favorite....
-
That´s no Rolls...? Well, nevermind.... it´s just cool. And that Ferrari.... the size and proportions´re simply great, exactly the kind of car I would dream of if I would be a MF.... hey, what the heck, add some car doors and I would try to ride that babe in person.... And that pumper truck´s a sheer nostalgic beauty queen, with an especially fine front part. Lovely!
-
That´s an impressive and elegant looking car, well done! And who wouldn´t love a car with four doors? Look at this, TLC!! Your MF characters look also pretty original and cool, very nice, but your reporter isn´t dressed quite right for that time.... but perhaps he just works 'undercover'....
-
A beautiful work, the new windscreen on that marvelous bus looks great, and it´s really cool to see some nifty details like these working doors. The size´s great too. The van looks also very detailed, the fire engine looks very realistic and from the smaller cars I like the Sedan the best, although the other two look very nice too. Do you want to present your other vehicles in a separate thread? Because that Ferrari, the US pumper truck, the Rolls-Royce and that farm truck´re really very smart too....
