  1. Thanks all! As you guys discovered, it's simply brown plates, and the fireplace lights up. It uses an exo-force light brick, triggered by a crank system hidden inside a window. The inside of the keep involves a gear system to activate it. I've since acquired two more of the light bricks and cables, and would love to make a copy of it where all 3 flames work, in a future model! As for the interior, I'm afraid it doesn't. Aside from the room with the fireplace, there's no interior to it. Most of the internals are filled with structuring to keep it's shape and strength. Thanks again, -John L.
  2. Hi all! I haven't posted here in a really long time - I don't think I know many (or any!?) of you anymore. But I thought I'd show you all my newest model: It can be seen on three sites, depending on which format you prefer: Brickshelf MOCpages Flickr Thanks for looking again, and let me know what you think! -John L.

    The Calibra

Hi all, Here's a micro ship I made a week or so ago: Here's a glimpse into a bit of the internal workings, if you're interested: Thanks, and let me know what you think! Enjoy! -John "J1A3L5" L.
  4. Well, maybe this is something I can do for version 2. I want to change the tower and I need to add some sort of burp/landscape to the end of the wall as well. This would mean I can stand all the figures on baseplates with the landscape. Try to avoid a BURP landscape. If you do use them, cover them well! I would recommend using dark grey bricks, and mixing in some green or brown. (Or both, if done well!) Do the orcs have any sort of siege weapons? Ladders? Catapults? Without them, no matter how many troops they have they're useless. I'd recommend making some ladders for them, and having a little sub-scene with a ladder being "pushed off the wall", as was seen in the movie. Great work, can't wait to see it with the figs! Mwuhahahahah!
  5. Awesomeness. My only complaint is that it is structure-only, and is completely devoid of any landscaping. Great work on what is there, yet it seems like there's a lot to be desired. This makes me want to try another LOTR MOC now...
  6. In my opinion, the best way to do the lightup function is something that Rob did to one of his: A contact between the palm of the hand, and the outside of the accessory to be lit. I believe in this case it was when the blaster was turned sideways it broke the connection, but when it was facing ahead it was lit. Still a cool idea. What about if the lightsaber was in the figure's hand it lit, but when you removed it from the hand it deactivated?
  7. Yeah... he had 4500 but I just took 200. I don't need that many! Indeed. 4500 is only really necessary if you are building a large-scale building, such as the seller was... Wow! I am hoping to get some of the assorted light grey packs and dark grey plates as well. Maybe I can order them for my birthday next month! Well I'm thinking about buying 1200+ Old Dark Grey 2x4's from a friend of mine for a project I'm working on...I probably will. The brick packets are cool and all, but sometimes they're just not enough.
  8. Congrats, I take it these were from the guy on FBTB selling them? Myself, yesterday I got 6 more packets of old light grey. The S@H ones. :-D As well as a couple dark grey, and a couple brown and a couple light grey plates...
  9. Custom!? Blasphemy! The "Snap Lockit" head is one of my favourite town heads. It's fairly simple, and not over-done, but a really cool head.
  10. Enough said.
  11. Well, if I get bored I'm sure I could randomly pick a set from my LUGNET Set List and review it...that would save me from boredom a lot of times... :) Only recent sets or old, better sets too?
  12. hehe, this words came from our little old-grey-bricks-junky.... :D :P Grey 2x4's forever! I have about a tubful right now. I'd like to get more, but I doubt that will happen, at least anytime soon. Then I have another tub of other size bricks. One thing that must be realized about having a huge amount of 2x4's is the fact that they're useless. Unless you want to have an awfully plain wall or something, you need a fairly sizable amount of other pieces. Fortunately I have more or less balanced my 2x4 supply and other grey brick supply so they are about equal when I use them. :)
  13. Thanks all, and sorry I'm replying so late. Unfortunately the back of the wall is plain, therefor I didn't photograph it. I just filled it in with more grey bricks so it's solidly backed, too. Aside from that, there is nothing to see. (Except the simple pin LEGO-style pin system for keeping the gate up, and the supports for the landscaping.) The Corner Tower was taken apart in order to make this one, and within two days of photographing this gate it was 100% apart and sorted: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/j1a3l5/C...on/dscn4296.jpg However, if I were able to have this Gate and the Corner Tower constructed at the same time, they would blend together seamlessly. However, I've started a new castle MOC now. It was inspired by several MOC's I've seen online, as well as the fact I got an additional brand-new 350 old grey and old dark grey bricks in the mail yesterday...for free. :) Thanks again, glad you all enjoyed it!
  14. Hi all, I finally finished my castle gate: (Click image) I'm not sure what else to say, Feedback good or bad is always appreciated and welcomed, especially useful, meaningful responses. Thanks and enjoy!

    At the radio

I have only heard the "Mutter" Rammstein CD, but I really enjoy it. (No clue what the lyrics mean, I only know English, some French and a tiny amount of Spanish - No German!) I enjoy most forums of metal. Right now I'm listening to Slayer. Pantera is a cool band, too, very similar. I usually listen to more modern bands like Slipknot, KoRn, Disturbed, Nothingface, and the like, though.
  16. The CCC Standard requires walls 4 studs wide, tops of the walls 6 bricks wide, on a 32 wide baseplate, and 6 bricks and 1 plate high. Other than that, you can do whatever you want. Those requirements must be met at each end of the wall, but in-between can be whatever you want. The point is that they can be brought to a fest by multiple members, and they would all fit together. Then inside lots of the other castle MOC's like tudor houses are put, to create a walled city layout. Thanks all, as Jipay mentioned I did make a little stand-alone tower. At the time I was very proud of it, now that I look back on it...well, I can see many things I'd do differently. I also made a corner tower in my own "standard" I've invented - A much larger scale. In that same scale I'm building a gate. I'm having some figures from Denmark come, hopefully in the next few days, so I can finish it. It's completely built besides those figures, which I'm waiting for. (25 Dark Grey Ninja Armour's, 20 Black Falcon Torsos and heads, 25 Black Neck Protector Helmets, 25 Blue-Rimmed Black Falcon shields) Hopefully when it's completed it will be moderately impressive, more so than a small CCC wall. Glad you liked it, thanks.
  17. Hello all, I thought I'd post this here: (Clickable image) The page basically explains all that needs explaining, as does the link linked to from that page. Please let me know what you think!
  18. Awesome. That is extremely cool. Quite simple construction, but just looks so accurate and impressive. Great work.

    Document on BS

I knew there was something strange, because "SixStuds" was mentioned, but not "6Studs". Read this thread. At the bottom of the post, there's that information.

    Document on BS

That article was written by Didier Enjary, I believe. It was a study of SNIR and SNOT techniques, and was used by Erik Amzallag in a window design.
  21. Now that is very impressive. Very much like a set, but a step up from one. My only real complaint is it does seem a bit cramped - And the use of premade castle walls pieces detracts from the "look". Using a few white pieces to get the same effect almost always looks better. Extremely impressive MOC, anything else similar planned?
  22. I voted AT-AT too. For the simple reason: Amazing old grey parts pack. I ordered it the first day it was available - When it was still just from phone-order and that wa the only way. I really didn't think the model itself was that great. It had good construction, but executed quite horribly. All sorts of gaps, off-colour pieces visible, etc. Also, the speeder bike in the back and the wierd chair things I thought were useless. I wish we could have got more like 2 drivers, 4 snowtroopers and a General Veers. It does have an amazing amount of grey wedge plates, and other pieces. (Dark grey 3x3 radar dishes!) I did do several modifications to it, but when I did them I specifically designed them to not change the set too much. I didn't want to change the set, just correct it. So at a first glance the mods aren't even very noticable. They can be viewed here.
  23. Interesting type of redesign. But I still wish they would do a ship once, and let that be it. They could give us a Death Star playset or a Sandcrawler or Sailbarge, but no, they go and re-do a old set. Since I have the original set, (As with most of the re-done sets), I'm 95% sure I won't get this one.
  24. I don't do much with technic, so I'm not that interested in that set - Although I do have a larger pneumatic loader which is a very impressive set. As for the X-Pod: I got the original 4 from a friend of mine, I really like them. They're some of the few sets I have kept separate and not sorted into my collection. I plan to get at least one of this black one, especially since the black disk pieces are much more useful (to me) than the brightly coloured ones. Ah well...I hope they release more X-Pods, they're great little sets. And yes, at least for my S@H login (Canada) it's listed under the Halloween section.
  25. Yep, there was also a couple posts on LUGNET about they should make larger pictures, one of the people who works on and updates S@H replied saying they were going to update the site anyway, so they'd make them larger while they're at it. Apparently more changes will be coming.
