I am a historical entertainer that dug out and dusted off the bricks after searching in vain for a model pirate ship and got hooked, again, on Legos. I'm certainly not the most detailing biulder but I try to stay with the old ways of the lego pirate conctruction designs. Check out the crew I sail with at www.valhallaspirates.com or on facebook by searching Valhalla's Pirates

Pillage the Village II: The Calm After the Storm
Mad Dutchman replied to SlyOwl's topic in Pirate MOCs
if an entry is 14 x 30 is it med or large? i saw there was some leeway written in the rules or can i just post it and a moderator can formally decide? -
UPDATE!! I havent been on the site in awhile and I have seen some great MOCs so my plan is to overhaul this beast and post the pics as soon as I come back from my trip this week!
-
this is awsome!!! MY ship, The Mad Dutchman is built on the standard hulls and it really is too thin, you've inspired me to careen her for an overhaul!
-
this is a really nice MOC! I like the expressions and the way the bar is built but you should put the pictures in the thread
-
definatly entertaining! looking forward to see more!
-
I also agree with black rabbit on grape shot, chainshot i havent tried but bar shot can be done with 2 "cannon Balls" and a spare "ramrod" it sticks out the barrel tho
-
I finally figured out how to do pics in the topic! hope you all enjoy.
-
I really wanted to put all the pics on here, i just couldnt do it in the space given, go to my facebook link, you can see how the Admirals "random ship inspection" went!

89d Ok so I just want to say that first and foremost am a historical entertainer/ reenactor and built my Lego ship after a search for a regular model ship that siuted me failed. I was sitting around pondering how I could get a model I could customize when a reenactor friend of mine came over after a trip to Florida and gave me a Lego block that had my pirate name engraved on it. Then the Lego idea light came on, the wheels began to turn once more and The Mad Dutchman was born! This ship took about 3 months to find, buy and assemble all the pieces I needed, having to stop mid build cause parts weren't in many times. I based this ship loosely on Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge and after working at the Franklin Institute in the exhibit of the Whydah captained by Samuel bellamy played a part to. I tried to be as accurate as possible, Queen Anne's Revenge had 25 to 40 guns and was 103 ft long as far as I've been able to find out, but I don't know if that was her deck or keel length. Please feel free to make any comments about my ship, I just ask you to remember that I tried to build her on the same construction designs as the Skull Eye Schooner and the other origional Lego ships and that is why she isn't as ornate as some, but hey, it's a pirate ship and it doesn't have to be! The Mad Dutchman 93 foot keel (if a minifig is 6ft tall) Square rigged Gally design 38 guns, including chasers 31 man crew (for now)

Mad Dutchman started following POTC or Classic pirates in 2011

first of all, there will be a 4th POTC movie and most likely a fifth so the line would run well. BUT the second thing that wasn't brought up is that megablocks or whatever knock off brand has the license already so it may be a mute point. and from what ive seen on this site many of the MOCs of royal navy ships would do well to be the Dauntless or the Endeavor from the movies, but to continue this interesting discussion, why not throw in a line of historical ships to tie into classic pirates? My ship is close to Blackbeards Queen Anne's Revenge (itll be posted very soon) but to bonaparte, Admiral Bejaune, Captain K. and all the other amazing builders you should petition lego to have sets based off your ships and other pirate ships of the golden age of piracy, that is something i'd skip the morgage payment for.
-
yes Rick, ancestry. and it helps in the reenacting community to have a rare Dutch pirate that says he escaped the perils of Captain Van Der Deckan's ship. Yes, tell a bit more about your dutchyness, MD! holodoc, I have to find time to do more research about a supposed Dutch pirate, Last name Knyff. I may be in the bloodline. other than that, third generation born in the US of Dutch carpenters

ha ha thanks man! good luck with the charger, i have a 68 camaro that needs lots of love

alright i'm new to forum so ill just say that i am a historical entertainer/ reenactor from new jersey and dug out the crates of legos from the closet once my search for a decent ship model to my likeing ended in vain. ive been working on a galley style ship for some time now that is relativly close in proportions to Blackbeards Queen Anne's Revenge. when its up to the par of this fine group it'll be posted, til then its off to the parts bins for me! and a thanks to ratshot for pointing me in the right direction.
